2013 Porsche club Championship

Be good to see you there Paul, although I think we are going to be very busy! After the first test it seems that the Pirelli slicks certainly give more grip (possibly around 0.1G extra or more) and in turn that enables more roll - but then that moves the suspension further out of its comfort zone and makes it travel further - so it could even bottom out - so I guess there is a need to stiffen up all round (springs and ARB's) and re-learn the damping to suit. Had a bit of trouble with the dyno - problems stabilising it but we have now discovered one of its retarder coil packs has a corroded wire going into the coil (probably the pit it was in got damp or wet and it corroded it away) giving a dodgy contact that gave continuity when we tested it but an intermitent one with the vibration as it was running. Anyway it's all apart now and we have sourced replacement coils - so hopefully that will be running soon. Then it will be neccessary to go to Superchips with the cars to establish their results and bring them back here and try and align ours with theirs - so in future we don't need to make the trip. Several lightweight parts to fit to the Boxsters yet to benefit from the weight reduction allowed then more testing. I agree the tyres add a new dimension and it will be really interesting - but we had got the cars spot on for Michelins to start this season and this will add some confusion to early set-ups - hopefully not for too long. Deciding on wets will also be a gamble. The first time we took our Sparton 500 to the British GP (mid '70's) we were qualifying in about 12th but although dry to start the race - it was obviously going to p**s down but everyone went out on slicks except one (not us). You have never seen such rain - Barry Sheen even came in to change wheels for wets (that took several minutes in those days) went out lapping so much faster he finished on the podium but the guy who started on the slicks won it and he was slower than us in qualifying. I spoke to him afterwards and he explained - "I had no chance of getting anywhere in the dry so I gambled - having nothing to lose". If only I had thought of that we could have had our first GP WIN !! it still bugs me!! I believe our wets will not last more than a couple of laps if it then dries up so it is going to be interesting! At least we will not be getting bored!! Baz

We'll just have to hope that weather will make it's mind up --- one way or the other, but not both / neither ! At a Ă‚ÂŁ1000 + per set, smoking has never been so expensive --- [;)]

Time seems to be slowing down!! Who is out testing?Any feedback on the new rubber yet? I am out early March at Brands for another shakedown.....Can't wait!!!!

Lots more 968s to come yet!Its going to be very exciting and much quicker than 2012 I reckon!

Not got mine yet Mark but I am hoping to get a set of wets on over the next 10 days or so. I might only get to drive the car once before Donny. Been super busy and with the cold/wet weather I haven't even got the car out of the garage just fired her up, cleaned the interior that sort of thing. Really fed up with the weather actually, its mid March, only 3 weeks away from our first race and its blooming snowing again. Mark have you been keeping an eye on the goings on at Mallory? Fingers crossed they can sort it all out.

Yup did read about that on pistonheads,Mallory is a lovely little circuit, great racing and fab cafeteria ! Looking forward to that first race at Donno, the new tyres will add a challenge to the proceedings that's for sure... It will brighten up soon hopefully...!!!

Two things: - those of you on facebook ....... have you joined the Club Championship page? Might be helpful if you want to keep up to date with developments. Go to : https://www.facebook.com/PorscheClubChampionship - A draft timetable is now up for the April 6th meeting at Donington, this is a Live Motors TV event but it has been noticed that only the second PCGB race will be shown live. see: http://www.barc.net/competitions/race-meeting-timetables ........ the anticipation is starting to grow (even though I am not competing!) Finally, a reminder of the other dates for the season, put them in your diary now ! Brands - May 4th Donington again - June 1st/2nd Silverstone - June 15th Castle Combe - August 26th Oulton Park - Sept 7th Silverstone - Sept 20/21 - triple header Snetterton - Oct 5th More info here: http://www.porscheclubmotorsport.co.uk/

Before I forget, the racing this year is on slicks for the first time, that will add a new dimension. See a picture here of Mark K's 968, shod ready for action

Also proper racing wets!!I could have done with those last season on a couple of occasions!!!![:D][:D] Car looks different with the Pirelli yellow stickers!!!

Time was going slowly in the off season, its now speeding up to the first race...! What thrills and spills will the new rubber present? Some lovely new cars coming out,the Strasse Caymans look epic and with their power and rigidity will they put pressure on the Boxsters and 996s? Class 2 is looking busy with lots of front engine action.... Testing the other day at Brands was fun, although the temperatures didnt suit my less than fresh slicks....! At least it wasn't raining!

Kimi has just won the Australian F1 race, on the back of good tyre management ........ wonder how our own championship will pan out as competitors literally get to grips with their own Pirelli slicks? Paul W has broken his cover ........... he is coming out in a new car for him in Class 2, the Strasse 968 driven by Chris Dyer last season. Paul have a great run in the championship...........

Updated registration list here, getting fuller. The run down to the first corner at Donington is called Redgate ....... it is going to be some sight.

Who says class 2 is weak, looking stronger every year. Great to see George Mutteen out with us, when he last raced with CSCC he set some of the fastest times seen from an S2. Nice array of colours as well, his bright orange, mine maritime blue and Ross/Ben in the bright green S2. Graham Knight as you all know got very fast towards the end of last season. With those guys on top of all the former runners its going to be fantastically tight and competitive this year.

Could be an epic season with some good close racing from the front to the back, last year had some great moments hoping for more of the same,I am really loving the slicks and have learned a lot how to get the best out of them as they are very different to cups, getting them up to temperature and the changes in settup needed to maximise them, tyres will be a big player this year is my prediction, much in line with Mr Fs ideas....[:D]
