3.2 First Impressions

Wahey! Welcome on board Nick [:D] and thakyou for a superb demonstration of your car today.

I'm pretty sure that all that power in a car with no roof is against the laws of physics so you should turn your boost down to 0.5bar for safety sake [;)]

Feel free to take some pics and post them on here (especially your black/silver wheels). I'm so annoyed I forgot to bring my camera today

Bunch of teases!waiting!![:D]

Heh heh. It has a BB turbo like mine and breathes through a Vitesse MAF so it makes the same whizzy noise when spooling up, but obviously does it a bit later and comes in with a real punch. It's been a while since I've been in a really fast car but it gave that feeling in the stomach when you go over a humpbacked bridge, only it seemed to last a good 10 seconds with no letup until we were closing on vehicles much quicker than we ought too and Nick had to lift off the throttle []

It just started drizzling half way in to our little drive so I never got to experience it at 1.4 bar as Nick left it set on the lower 1.2 bar setting. It has the same Fabspeed exhaust as yours Mark, only the 3" version unlike your huge 4" monster. The noise inside is not too bad at all (you know I'm not too keen on loud exhausts) especially when cruising alomg at 70-80mph it is barely audible. Full throttle makes it snarl a bit, and also it pops quite nicely during some gearchanges. I'm still not totally convinced I want one but Jon is pretty positive it would really wake my engine up - yikes!

My wife has always hankered after a Cabrio and Nick did say he gets bored of cars very quickly and is always changing them. I better hide her purse as I need all our pennies for mine [:D]

Thanks for that!!Having that power in a cab must feel great!(tunnels=so much fun!)Would love to have a look/listen to the 3 inch one(fabspeed) mine is a touch loud, that must be so much fun with the roof down, looking forward to a 44 meet whith all these "super " turbos hopefully in summer!C'mon lets have a tyre kicking sesion!?[:D]

LiL needs a fabspeed!!you know you want it!!![:D][:D]

Not listening - la la la [:D]

You coming to Frontrunner or Cotswold Rally? and of course I'll be organising another Dyno Day

...and make sure it's at least 3" out of the turbo d/pipe Paul while you're at it...[:)]
Cab sounds like a real blast Nick! You guys are getting some fleet of big bores going on up there. 2 Nicks, Paul, Ben + Peter's hybrid. Get plenty of video & pics at the next track and dyno days. I sent a couple of pics to Paul to resize and post (just to prove I do hit the track occasionally [:D]) but they're pretty big so might be too hard to resize. Look forward to seeing some of these beasts on the prowl.

Thats it Nick, you keep spending the money. I can buy it back when its finished[;)]

Nice work Jon. You know 416 will only keep him happy for a while. You need to think about how to hold the roof on after you've put in the 3.2[:D]

Im now really gutted I didnt go out in the cab. It would have been v.interesting to compare the driving characteristics of both to see the differences between a 2.5 and 3.2 in the same day. Paul's now been out for a v.short spin in my car so maybe you could try and explain? although obviously now Jon's turned the boost down even further on my car it doesnt quite leave the lasting impression I am hoping for in another few 100miles. its still driving beautifully though, after cleaning and polishing my car I have just done a 40min hard drive and although by the end of it the exhaust had started spitting when braking I am pleased to say there is absolutely nothing coming out of the exhaust. It still looked as it did after it was polished with not a spot of dirt anywhere. only difference was its slightly yellow colour from the heat.

I forgot to add in response to Markk's comment, definitely I think we are well overdue a pub lunch style meet just for casual chat and bonnet open oohing and aahing! It will just be a pleasant change for me to actually be turning up in my car! ..I may even make my first dyno day with a car to run ever!! I've been every year and watched everyone else having fun! My turn this year.

Yes Ben took me out for a short drive this afternoon. It is definately a very different beast to Nicks Turbo Cab at the moment. There is masses of low down off boost grunt no matter what gear Ben was in but just as it starts to wake up fully the wastegate opens and the stomach lurching acceleration never happens. In Nicks car your brain is shoved firmly to the back of your skull at this point and it takes off [8D]

It's all very civilised and almost exactly like an S2 only with much more power everywhere. The wheels were happily spinning in all gears except 4th and 5th (235 tyres on the rear []) and that's even with only 0.6bar boost and 5000rpm rev limit. I had forgotten just how smooooooooth a brand new 944 engine is, and we were chatting about how well Simon puts them together. Porsche originally built a good engine in the factory 20 years ago, but Simon builds them to such an exact tolerance that they are the sweetest little gems you could hope for. At one point we were on a dual carriageway in traffic, cruising in top gear at 70mph, as quiet and smooth could be. Then the traffic opened up and with just a partial squeeze of the throttle we were very illegal indeed before either of us knew what was happening. Much restraint is needed on the road to preserve those licences [:-]

I can't wait to get mine back [8D]
