718 Cayman GT4 is here – at long last.!
- Thread starter Motorhead
- Start date
Inconel pipework is in progress, the valves are installed and the unsilenced part is now complete and ready for welding. Just the silenced part, including silencers, to be added. It should be completed later this week and I'm expecting to be called in for fitting one morning next week...
I recently specced and left a deposit on a 718 GTS 4.0 in Miami blue. My partner Alison seems to think it said 'available until 4th Dec' on the colour, so I hope mine makes the cut as it is expected around that date...ralphmusic said:I see Miami Blue is for the chop again, showing as available until November 2020 on German site. It seemed to have survived the earlier until April chop.
Nice work by Ninemeister there Dave. Look forward to seeing the final product.Twinfan said:Just a quick update on my NineMeister exhaust that I mentioned in another thread, I'll post it in here as it seems more appropriate.

Are they using proprietary silencers or ones to their own design?
Jeff
The whole unit, including smallet bullet silencers on the valves close route, is being built to their design in conjunction with the supplier who is an ex-F1 exhaust engineer. I've not been told who specifically it is however the work so far looks pretty good. I'm liking the carbon wrapped tips, personally, I'm not a fan of the raw megaphone or slash cut styles. They look a bit unfinished to me.
Fitting is going to be next Thursday, the 17th.

Nothing on the UK configurator yet but oddly enough although PDK is a £2k option for the GT4 it’s £2,303 for the GTS - figure that out. It’s going to be interesting to see what is the take-up for PDK for the 4.0L cars. I suspect that there will be high demand for the GTS models but will there be a 50/50 split for the GT4 as there is for the GT3?
No details about what colour will replace Miami Blue but that Shark Blue you indicated in a previous post will look good.

I've just had a cuppa and a play on the configurator to replicate my 981 S exactly (except painted mirrors, diffuser and kidney grills that you can't do) in 718 GTS form and it is £76k.
That's some seriously challenging man maths to justify a £40k injection for 70bhp, better sat nav, different shape air vents, a button on the steering wheel, a bit of a wangy looking front end and a muted sound.....

Man maths you say? I can help there.
Can you believe it's *only* £40k for all that, on a brand new car? Bargain really.

In all seriousness I think I've decided if I come across a 981 Spyder that is a nice colour with the right seats, low mileage and PCCBs for mine and £20k then I'm in.
The other option I have toyed with is 911.1 coupe with sunroof or targa GTS for my weekend car and then go with a dedicated 987.2 PDK track build instead of using my 981.
Going from like to like, if there's nothing major you want to change, is never going to be cost effective.

Twinfan said:The 981 is a very hard act to follow, and unless you have to have the latest and greatest or need to change for some other reason e.g. PCP ending, car is written off then it's tough to justify the change. I personally think the old 3.4 is a very sweet engine and my 981 GTS was a peach of a car.

Totally agree. None of the above. I know the car is more capable than me and tuition and practice will make me faster than dropping 70bhp into the engine. I don't use any of the tech stuff that has got better. I own it. It's a really special spec. Has great memories.
Only upgrades i can see take me in different directions like i say. Bit more sunny day special with a spyder or bit more road trip/ GT with a 911.1
I'm sure a PDK 4.0 GTS will be an absolutely epic car but maybe not so much for someone in a 981 S/GTS
I think that if I had a 981 GTS or GT4 I’d be very reluctant to trade-up to the equivalent 718 given the substantial price-hike and the fact that residuals are still strong right now. However, the introduction of PDK into the mix is going to introduce another factor: will a significant number of 981 GT4 owners be tempted to make the switch and if so, what impact if any will this have on residuals?
Dave’s swap to a 718 GT4 is fully justified as being a very different beast as are Dean‘s thoughts about looking at a different type of car for Sunday’s and fundays.
