Surely it will make a difference - if they’ve got 20 deposits already held and a limited allocation of cars then you’re going to be 21st in the queue and you aren’t going to get your car on the same date as the guy who’s first in the queue.
The other thing that is slightly annoying is that by the time these cars hit the road, then the 992.2 will almost be ready and that makes me think I should wait, given that will have some form of hybrid technology meaning more power and torque and a quicker car overall. I'm a bit confused at the moment on what to do.

That’s where I’m at, waited way too long between spy shots to launch and then underwhelmed by what was unveiled. It’s going to be dated the instant it rolls out and for me it’s just not quite ‘special‘ enough above the S to justify the price point / lead times. There was a good video on it here: https://youtu.be/QMeSqs9eJR0

let’s see what the 992.2 has to offer! ????

Lots of comments of the GTS being underwhelming and not 'special enough. I agree with this but still ordered a Carrera 4 GTS. Yes, it not worth the upgrade if you already have a 992 carrera S . I would order a GT3 touring as an upgrade from an S instead.( if rear seats are not required). I do not agree with the Kiwi YouTuber, that the Carrera S is placed higher than a GTS ! The first UK press car will be delivered in September and I'm certain that this chap has not driven one in NZ to comment about turbo lag over a Carrera S. If you are not going to take it on track days than for lateral control the 4s is and 4GTS will be better suited for UK roads. I specified a Carrera 4s and compared it to a Carrera 4 GTs and the difference was under £1500 excluding the full leather seats vs Alcantara. So for bigger brakes, Suspension setup from the Turbo( a claimed exhaust that is meant to be better but does not sound like it on the porsche marketing video) and 30 more bhp I think it is worth it ,if you are not trading in your Carrera S or Carrera 4s.
The only thing that the 992.2 will not improve on is the exhaust and as a current Mercedes-Benz employee(ex Porsche) i can say that the mild hybrids and hybrid cars sound more muted than the pure combustion engines. Porsche has done a terrible job on the exhaust note for the EU and UK market and this is only going to get worse in the 992.2! I'll hold on to the last pure combustion 911.

I’ll be reserving judgement until the motoring press have delivered a verdict. There seems to be an awful lot of people here drawing definitive conclusions based purely on a paper spec. Don’t forget every other iteration of the 911 GTS has merely been a specced up and mildly breathed on Carrera S as well. Yet it has somehow managed to be greater than the sum of its parts. And as Alfredo has already pointed out above, spec a current S to this level and you’re there or thereabouts anyway on the cost. I get why a current S owner might not feel the urge to upgrade but if you’re coming out of the blocks and ordering a car from scratch this GTS looks like a no brainer to me.

The Major.

Anyone on here had an actual date for their UK GTS build yet? I've had deposit on since last year, called in to local OPC in June to finalise spec (Gentian blue etc) and told I'd got my OPC's first GTS (irrespective of me ordering a Targa) slot. but since then not a squeak of information on anything, OPC says they have no data to supply me with. My Taycan is racking up miles now [:)]

I have had my build slot confirmed and delivery to the dealer for late November. That’s a 2wd Coupe though, not a targa.

He does indeed but I'm guessing he hasn't driven one yet as no one I can find has. I'm lucky enough to have had a 991 GTS previously following on from a 4S (I think!) This will be my 9th 911 in various guises but I've never had a Targa so that's main driver behind it and given when I looked at Targa GTS's before they were at the time more than the 992 Cab I eventual, got that's my real motivation. And I think I've one more ICE in me besides the Taycan Turbo and I can't get a new 911 Halo car despite my longevity with Porsche!

Well I only placed my order for a "standard" GTS mid last month and was told I'd get an update towards the end of the year on build allocation and delivery would be late Q1/ early Q2.
Just keeping an eye on the market as it would be nice if values hold about where they are now and dont take a plummet early next year...

yep in 2021 there were none registered in the UK and only 21 991 Targa 4 GTS's in 2020 and currently registered apparently according to the howmanyleft.co.uk website I think if I'm reading it right. Only 1 991 Targa GTS I can see on Pistonheads or Auto Trader. Crazy.

Deposit paid and December build date confirmed. Currently thinking GTS4: PDK, rear wheel steer, glass sunroof, Bose, gloss black for sport design package/wheels. Any other thoughts on what to spec, what to avoid, very much appreciated.

GTS interior package is the Numero Uno must have so don't skip it, anything else down to personal preference and individual taste. I'd personally avoid the gloss black wheels as they're a shitemare to keep kleen and swirl free but if you fancy them then fill your boots. What colour did you go for ?

OPC rang me today to tell me my 992 Targa 4 GTS build slot is confirmed for early/mid November with a delivery either just before Christmas or early January 2022.

Spec is all agreed with Gentian Blue, Black roof, PDK, Racetex interior, Lane Keep, Porsche Entry and Drive, electric mirrors, Front Axle lift, Bose, Black Satin Turbo S wheels, Rev counter, Sports Chrono dial and seat belts in Guards red etc.

Hope it lives up to expectations!

I locked in my Spec yesterday for a 4 GTS. October build, November deliver (but could slip I imagine).

had deposit down for 2 years+ and toward the front of the GTS queue (which is massive)

My spec change deadline is next week and wanted to get people's opinion on the Glass sunroof. I did not order mine with one but was wondering if it is a 'must have' for resale value? My spec is C4 gts ,pdk, jet black metallic, bose, electric folding mirrors, reversing camera, illuminated doorsills,Aerokit, sports design side skirts ,bose ,turbo wheels and no cost leather option.standard Race tex interior and Heated Steering Wheel in leather .

Having a big hole in the roof then filling it with heavy glassware and ironmongery is not a recipe for finest sports car performance, but if you're more interested in touring than spirited motoring by all means go ahead.

Options seldom recover their value on resale, so just have what you really want and enjoy the car when you get it. Don't become side-tracked by reselling a car you've yet to own. [;)]

Clive

The "must have" for resale is the GTS interior pack.

Glass sunroof is significant on Cayenne/Macan but on 911 not so much. I personally hate the things and wouldn't buy a used car that had one whilst other will seek them out. As always you should first and foremost buy the car for yourself and not for the next owner.

Im in the with glass roof camp. Nice and airy when closed plus quiet at speed when open and lets face it the GTS is not the featherweight is it. I have had roughly half my 911,s with /without sunroof and no discernible difference in stiffness or handling. The pre 991 roofs were very boomy though so never opened them. Dont bother if its just for resale as it probably only recovers what it costs and more to go wrong.
Interior needs full GTS spec for resale and no dog dick schemes.
