944 Turbo S Engine Rebuild Thread

Turned my shed into a paint booth/murder room and hit it with a few coats of etch primer. Got some black VHT wrinkle paint coming this week so should have the manifold fitted this weekend.
Some Bosch 1000cc injectors turned up as well, just waiting on a fuel rail being made up for those to fit into.
Got the car back from the bodyshop too, 968 Turbo RS-style wing fitted and the required paint too. Gave it a quick machine polish, chucked some Gtechniq CSL on and then remembered it was for driving, not polishing, so booked a Trackday for 4 weeks time!

looking excellent ,… i too thought of making a custom manifold like this , just to give more room to my holset turbo .
did u get it done for same reason ? or becuase of a power gain perspective?

This setup is a well trodden path so was a no brainer to follow in other’s footsteps. I had considered making the manifold wider to increase the volume and make a bit more space for the turbo outlet but decided not to in the end - I’m happier with less manifold over the turbo And less volume equals less lag.

I can’t take the credit for the welding - I only paid for it!
The compressor outlet silicon pipe does fit - just! Going to bring it out a bit straighter towards the front of the car/aiming at the intercooler inlet and then get a custom made hard pipe to replace the standard one.

It’s from a guy who goes by the name of "Marco Antonio” on Facebook - he’s actually a Serbian chap called Vladan Topalovic but not sure the Americans would deal with him under that name. The quality is best described as average FG and needed a fair bit of prep - my bodyshop guys owed me a favour and I got the parts on a bit of a deal so it worked out ok. In hindsight I’d have probably been better off buying the Carbon one from Jan at DRS Developments as its a nicer bit of kit and much more original in how he’s done the adjuster brackets - it is about 3 times the cost though!
I order some knifeless cutting tape and some matte black vinyl from Amason this morning, delivered about 9pm so gave me a little evening project.
Pretty happy with the results, not 100% perfect but I’ll never look at it as closely as I did tonight. I’ve got plenty left too - not bad for under £25.
It went from wet and glossy (first pic) to matte and wrinkly (second pic) and despite some crazy temps from the paint stripping gun it remained cool enough to handle so it’s a thumbs up for budget zircotec from me.
Going to leave it curing for a couple of days like a side of beef and then it’ll get another going over with the heat gun to make sure it’s fully set and wrinkled.
