964 day at Curborough is on again!

Same here Steve-brilliant day as last year-I think Nick & I found it more of a challenge than had we still had our 964's but the challenge now is to tame the wild beast for future track days & next year's Curborough.
Gary-great video-it makes the 924's progress look quite professional.[:)]

Thanks for the great day Steve, I really enjoyed it.

Great video Gary, captures the essence of it.

David

Well done Steve, looked like another good event. I wish I could've been there.

Just for future reference (for next year's event [:D]) was there a noise check and how strict was it?

Thanks for the opportunity to make up the numbers Steve [:)]
Never seen so many 964's in one place [;)]

Steve, the friendly noise checker, was their and did static and driveby noise tests. The limit was officially 105 db at 2/3 revs. No one was failed and I always get the impression from Steve that you would have to be well over to fail. He's going to e-mail me the list of all the readings.

Glad you enjoyed your couple of laps Tony, demonstrating how much fun and entertaining a GT3 can be on a tight twisty track. You more than deserved a little go for helping me out with the flagging [:)]

Yes , it was a great day out masterminded by Steve.....not one for the polishers however[;)]

Above see proof of the conditions , a forward view and a backward view from the queue to get on circuit.
Ian's 964 Cup provided the 964RS with a bit of marker to drive times down with but I was still 0.2 seconds down on the sprint course . We were both guilty of overbraking and ABS abuse , the stability electronics of the white 997GT3 combined with its driver's comitment ( Terry?) proved to be superior on the day performance wise .
I did manage a bit of offroading followed by the inevitable pirouette......[8|]

And to answer the question , yes there was a noise test , I made 101 , I think Ian made 102.5....seemed a bit higher than normal maybe due to the howling wind and rain ? [:D]

Have to say that the little 924 proved to be one of the most entertaining sights of the day....especially watching Nick in the passenger seat, praying as you braked for turn 1. I'm not sure that tyre smoke was the only thing we were smelling! [:D]

I clocked 108.9db on the tester 1st time but I told him I was over-reving it at 4,000 and he'd asked for just below 4k. So 2nd go got 102.5 at 3.7K.
He was really good about it and not so officious as some I've met at other circuits like Snetterton.

looks like you had a great time, pity I missed another one of Steve's wet track days this year.......;-)

See you next time.

kevin

Another great day Steve, really enjoyed it, even though I didn't get out there this time.
Thanks again for the KW demo, I'm impressed, gotta get them now! [;)]
Good to put some names with faces and watch some great car control from The Stig! (Marcus) [:D]

Great vid Gaz.

Cheers guys.

Andy.

'tis true that 4 out of the 6 trackdays I've been on this year have been wet....there must be something in my water [X(]

All the spins yesterday were memorable for one reason or another: Marcus for being the first, the Appletons (think it was Colin) for the inevitably because the 924 looked like it was going to do one all day, John for managing to do it while trying to get back on the track, Jeremy for the style points at the chicane, Greg for the embaressed look on his face and finally Ben for getting a metaphoric clip round the ear from his dad! [:D]

Just a moment,Steve-the only Appleton to have spun on a trackday(Donnington) & at Curborough is the junior one-I admit to getting slightly sideways after the hairpin on at least one occasion but it was the Junior Appleton what done it nearly onto the central grass area after the hairpin.

The eastern European tyres fitted by the guy I bought it from on e-bay must be specially designed for skidpans & I reckon possibly there is too much front brake bias. Still our times weren't that bad-just wait -with better tyres ,some front negative camber & lowered suspension, next time we might be able to restrict the spectator experience to rubber smells only.[:)]

My funniest special moment was seeing you dive for cover when the brakes locked up as we approached the finish line before the bend.[:D]

Many thanks again for a special day.

Colin.

I was surprised to find the roarty exhaust on the 924S only read 97.2 at 2/3 rds revs-I wonder if my foot had slightly slipped on the throttle?

Gary,
To be honest,The Dukes of Hazzard couldn't have been further from my mind coping with the weather conditions-as Nick says-I clearly wasn't trying hard enough-then again -lend the car to to your son & he takes liberties.[:D]

Don't forget to strip it bare too.....having seen one of the Lodge Motorsport 924s in action they can be remarkably quick [:)]

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Back last night from the long weekend away. Finally managed to pick up mail, forum gossip and timings...

Steve, massive thanks for making it all happen. Standing there in the rain with a brolly in one hand and then masterfully switching between flag, stopwatch, pen and board with the other - couldn't have been easy!

I enjoyed finally putting names and faces to some of the forum banter and appreciated the exchange of information and advice too from all.

First time on the track for me in the motor so had no idea what to expect - the first spin of the day probably signalled that. Noise test at 4k took me to 105.8 and took the advice for a re-read at 3.8k which obviously did the trick. Need to sort this out though and hope a switch back to original tailpipe does the trick. Wanted to see how things were on the limit - the ABS works I know that. The amount of flipping understeer surprised me with coming close to a few off's more than once. I think the rain and damp conditions helped - made handling on my near rear slicks an arm full!

Had a great laugh and glad to see Colin and Nick made sure I wasn't the only spin of the day too by being next. That 924 certainly was fun to watch. Watching Greg give up his lap by over braking for that right hander gave me a chuckle - the look on his face - should have just wanged it back in Greg and rallied it back on the black stuff [:D]

Great pics too. I'll see what I've got and post up..

Marcus

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Cheers Gaz, I took your reply as a compliment..[:)]

I had no idea what to expect and thought if I start off by giving everything the beanz then I'll pretty quickly know where to stop messing about.

I did at one point try to to get into the seat of another Slate Grey motor while we were queud up (can't remenber who's) until I thought the interor colour was a bit different - then was reminded that mine was the stickered up one. Had such a laugh out there I could have done a few nigh runs... There's a thought Steve - an endurance Curborough event!

Had a look at Greg's in-car footage and could see and hear where he abandoned his lap from over shooting the right turn - there was a "f***!" followed by a laugh in the commentary. As Greg commented too, I was aiming for Lichfiled when flooring it past the finish line for the run off.

It's Centre of Gravity for me now to dial out that crappy understeering - I spent so much time down the bottom hairpin trying to induce oversteer with nothing to show for it. Maybe I could borrow Ian's or John's for a couple of laps next time..[;)]

Off to Silverstone in a couple of weeks for the same (full circuit too). Let's see how many meters I can run for through the gravel traps.
