964 day at Curborough is on again!

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Cheers Gaz, I took your reply as a compliment..[:)]

I had no idea what to expect and thought if I start off by giving everything the beanz then I'll pretty quickly know where to stop messing about.

I did at one point try to to get into the seat of another Slate Grey motor while we were queud up (can't remenber who's) until I thought the interor colour was a bit different - then was reminded that mine was the stickered up one. Had such a laugh out there I could have done a few nigh runs... There's a thought Steve - an endurance Curborough event!

Had a look at Greg's in-car footage and could see and hear where he abandoned his lap from over shooting the right turn - there was a "f***!" followed by a laugh in the commentary. As Greg commented too, I was aiming for Lichfiled when flooring it past the finish line for the run off.

It's Centre of Gravity for me now to dial out that crappy understeering - I spent so much time down the bottom hairpin trying to induce oversteer with nothing to show for it. Maybe I could borrow Ian's or John's for a couple of laps next time..[;)]

Off to Silverstone in a couple of weeks for the same (full circuit too). Let's see how many meters I can run for through the gravel traps.

T'was mine...surprised you didn't notice the lack of stickers sooner...[&:]

Have to admit to being slightly surprised too, as i thought I must be approaching the wrong car when i saw you trying to get in!

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Thought it was your car Colin, but forgot that two Colin's were there Saturday.. Yeah, felt a bit of a pillock it has to be said. Still, if I had a red one I'd have been even more 'lost'..

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Ha.. it's a secret..!

Monday 15th with RMA Trackdays. Please don't expect an improvement just probably more of the same antics. The difference however this time will be someone who does know what they're doing sat next to me for the day (apparently some ex-F1 test driver or similar).

I need new rear tyres before then, an MOT and also need push back on my old tailpipe to get it down from the finger wagging 105.8dB I had on Saturday...

Marcus ,
Great to hear you continue forth where nobody else dares venture-I suggest you disconnect the front differential & maquerade as a C2 then you might get the tail to wag the Marcus rather than the Marcus lose the front end.[:D].
Me.I'm just off to collect the rear handbrake retainer springs so that I can get the handbrake working again on the " Sebring " frictionless wondecar.
Incidentally,they are exactly the same springs on a 964-cost £5 ea ie £20 a set for the car.[&o]

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Good point - the hacksaw will be out the weekend..!

I've had a look at the little movie clip Greg took with me starting off on one of the long runs later in the day. The comments overheard made me laugh I was indeed trying to do a NASCAR rolling start flashing my headlights like crazy trying to get Steve to notice and drop the flag as I reached the start line. [:D]

Little tinker though on the second run took ages I thought before he finally waved me off..

I'll bung up on youtube later and get back with the link.

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Good luck with the retainer springs..[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]I meant to say earlier Gaz, I'm in sarf London init.. If ever you're cruising by let me know.[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]A couple of video links now I found the time over the weekend. Both are of the same lap (if you know what I mean).

And remember; I borrowed the 'Stig' jacket from Greg - it's not mine, honest..!

Managed to get my head in there a couple of times [8|]

Surprising how much faster the in car footage looks compared to the first clip...

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Yep, you are in there indeed. I will look at any others I took and see if your in them too.. [;)]

Indeed, the in-car footage does look faster, maybe I need to re-edit and 2x speed the other one to match [:D]

Great to see some footage from the day.....and especially to see what we all thought on the start line...that you cheated by doing a rolling start on the first run! [:D] The even funnier thing is...when you obeyed the rules the second time....you were quicker!! [:D]

not that I was timing anyone of course [;)]

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]I'm sure I saw you drop the flag while I was rolling up to the line [;)] It had me laughing to hear the comments from the other side of the glass though..

Car with RPM near Tring now awaiting one MOT and two new rear's. Put me down for next year Steve!
[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Me having a laugh... [:D]

Less bothered about lap times, rather more seeing how she behaves. Actually quite happy it was wet/damp most the time as it made it all the more fun at lower speeds - my rear near-slicks didn't help though.
[FONT=verdana,geneva"][FONT=verdana,geneva"] Mind you, I didn't have those Turkish donkey cart remould tyres you had..[FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Be carefull,those are genuine Slovakian skidpan tyres for those wanting minimal grip-next year with lowered suspension,wider wheels,negative camber & tyres that grip we might be able to stay on track where we want to drive.Last night I got the handbrake back-working in the dark after a days gardening & no ,it wasn't a trick or treat.[:)]

It was a great day & Nick & I really enjoyed your attacking style-C4's are of course renowned for their front understeer.

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]I know Steve looked worried a few times as down the straight I would drift left close to him to take a wide (less tight) turn into that right-hander to straighten out some of that flippin understeer.

Certainly looking forward to a completely different looking 924 then next time - could be a killer machine. No hiding any N2O injection kit under the seat either [:eek:]

The first time I went to Curborough was with the Lancia Delta Integrale owners club. On the day they had a WRC test driver (can't remember his name but it was obvious he was good when we watched him do a demonstration). His line at the hairpin was tight and smooth all the way round the inside. To many it looked slow but the stopwatch time told a very different story.

I have some other clips too that i'll post up on you tube when I get a mo...

Anyone fancy chipping in to hire this place for the day?

could be fun???

Might be interesting to get some info Greg. For comparison, the cost of hiring Curborough was £681.50. The things to watch for with hiring airfields is the surface is usually concrete, chews up your tyres and causes lots of stone chips. You would probably have to lay out a course with traffic cones so you need to find out if they provide them. And they are often very, very sensitive about noise - the noise limit is often 95 db static which is no good for 964s.

For those wanting to go one step further than Curborough the other idea is to go on a properly organized track day. Somewhere like Donington with Bookatrack is a good starting point. Donny has loads of run off and Bookatrack don't take any nonsense - so although you're sharing the track with other paying customers you can be confident of good behavior. With the discount I can get from them for 10 or more cars you're looking at about £200 each for the day. Going with a group of friends makes it a brilliant day out.

I've just got the noise test results from Steve who was testing us on the day. The loudest static test was 103.4 db and the quietest 93.4 db (the GT3 surprisingly!). The loudest driveby was 90.8 db and the quietest was 76.1 db.

All cars are identified by their reg number so rather than put the list up here, please e-mail me your reg to me if you want to know your own reading.

[FONT=verdana,geneva"]Yes please Steve (reg emailed). I was told on the day at 4k rpm it was 95.8 so am interested if this has changed and certainly the drive-by would be useful to know.

Marcus
