This thread has encouraged me to do a trackday in the 911. Last Friday I did a local open-pitlane airfield day with only about 20 cars present. Weather dry and clear but with a frosty start (and snow on the drive home!). I started slowly and built speed up during the day. Obvioulsy no lap timing allowed, but later my data logging suggested my fastest lap at the start of the day was about 1:28, falling to about 1:20 in my last session. I was not taking any risks at this pace - just developing more and more feel for the car. Great day with no problems and surpirsingly little tyre scrubbing despite struggling to avoid understeer on a medium speed (105 into braking zone, 51 thru apex), adverse camber open 90 left. The day confirmed my suspension needs attention. Don't think I can justify spending money on full refresh as this will never really be my track car. Will just aim to get the geometry set properly and hence hopefully make the best of what I have for now... Looking forward to the more flowing layout of Donington next year even more now!ORIGINAL: asjasj Steve Please add me to the interested list..........I competed in a sprint in mine 3 weeks after buying it and it's not been on track since. Time to get that 'problem' addressed!
Glad you enjoyed it Ade []. My first ever go in the 911 was at Bruntingthorpe airfield which really gave me the bug. I don't bother with the airfields since I got the taste for real tracks. Oulton Park is easily my favourite UK track because it's both fast and demanding. And luckily very local to me. Donington Park is a close second and an absolute brilliant track for a 964. Suits our gearing really well. Here's a taster video from a friend of mine who spotted me in the mirrors of his Boxster S, let me by and then gave chase for a lap: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANry9ugiFBMORIGINAL: asjasj Looking forward to the more flowing layout of Donington next year even more now!
Enthusiasts are always welcome...more Pork on the track means less of anything else []ORIGINAL: purds Hi Steve - hope you don't mind me poking my nose in [] If you decide to open this up to non 964's to make up numbers please let me know []
Just make sure you bring something that doesn't keep breaking down []ORIGINAL: Sifly Hi Steve, I'm interested too.
Have added you and all those recent to post their interest to the list in the first post (Marcus was 4th to put his name down []). Still waiting for final confirmation of the date from Bookatrack but hoping that on-line booking will be open soon.ORIGINAL: gregmarshall I'm up for it (Marcus as well no doubt!)
It won't be April....just make sure it's up and running for July []ORIGINAL: mcgc0 My April might suddenly turn busy but happy to confirm now with a caveat that any reservists can bag my place if I have to bomb out - may be in Shanghai for the F1 GP and also looking to get the car glass-out resprayed before the spring/summer (however long a respray takes). Marcus
