964 Trackday 2011 (group booking) GREAT day out!

Marcus, A production engineer who can't get our surname right-no wonder Rover SD1's were unreliable.[:)] The senior Appleton!

It won't be April....just make sure it's up and running for July
Even better.. LoL, apologies Mr A - my neighbour is the Appleby and he has a diesel Pug! Although the SD1 was when I was but a lad, I do remember Tony Pond making it fly - bless him.

Marcus, But you act so old & worldly wise for your age[:D]Actually I did have a Rover SD1 Vitesse in the 80's which was totally reliable-had road /rally lifters ,Camshaft,Jaguar Air intake system ,Janspeed exhaust ,modded suspension, etc would rev to over 7500rpm & go in 2nd from rest to over 85 /90mph(if I recall correctly)-with the Mk 2 airdam-in the outside lane of motorways, people just fled out one's way as you drove along in the 90's.Used to go down to the Med & back cruising at 90+ with 2 windsurfers on the roofrack giving 32+mpg-even got it to 137mph on the Autbahns, but just had to plan ahead for braking events. Sorry if this is offtopic Steve, but always enjoyed that car & wanted to share that with Marcus.[:)]

That explains where your "VITESSE" handle came from.. did it rust away in the end? I thought it better than the later 827's too. Go on - dig it out and bring it to Donny!

Sold it,when I moved onto the 1st of 2- 827 Vitesses which were suitably modded & very fast followed by a 800 turbo Vitesse Sport which was even faster with a decat pipe, large bore sports exhaust ,oiled cone filter,Bosch Super4 plugs & turbo bleed valve, front wheel tramp partially tamed by the LSD-it was reckoned to be pushing out 250bhp.That was sold at 152k miles with no engine problems whatsoever, apart from having to keep tightening up the 2 outer exhaust manifold bolts-the others were nuts on studs. the trouble was-there was nothing equivalent to buy to follow it. So you were right there with your hunch. Vive la Vitesse.[:)]

****Booking Now Open**** Our day is now confirmed for Sunday July 10th 2011. Please see first post for booking details. [:)] p.s. Apologies to F1 nuts because it's the same day as the British GP. pps I've already booked [;)]

Hi Steve, would a trackday novice be a problem - I would rather be in the company of fellow enthusiasts while I learn than in the company of nutters in Corsas. Will tuition be available? As a lowly 996 owner I would try not to get in your way.

Hi Darren, many on this day will be first timers - albeit like yourself they have been to Curborough. You'll be fine, Donington is a great place to do your first full trackday. You can book an instruction slot at the time of booking. Get yourself booked and less of the 'lowly 996' stuff - I know how well it goes [;)]

Steve, great job in arranging this, but I will have to check schedule as we are off to France on or around that date :-( Ian

SD1.....my first ton.....dads car, but it overheated when cruising over 90.....[&:]

ORIGINAL: SteveJC Hi All booked including a couple of tuition slots. Steve
Good to hear Steve. When you get chance you can edit your profile on Bookatrack to put in the details of your car and then manage your booking and select the car so that it appears on the list. Just like mine does [:)]

Hi Steve, thanks again for organising the day. I've just booked up. Looking forward to seeing all the guys too. Just noticed the noise levels.... Noise Restrictions 98dB Drive-By. Measured from track-side. 100dB Static. 0.5m and 45° from exhaust at ¾ maximum RPM. Static tests are only on vehicles failing the drive-by noise limit. David

Trust the Curborough test results are still good enough to rely on. BTW - what on earth does 3/4 revs mean - of max value on the gauge? In rallying events scrutineered under MSA regs we were always limited to 4k revs. I am hurting over it clashing with the British GP - it'll be the first event in years I haven't watched live [] The company, banter and maybe a few (eh hem.. I mean couple) pints afterwards I'm sure will make up..

The noisiest driveby recorded at Curborough was 90.8 db and although nobody was going flat out, you've got a long way to go guys before breaking the 98 db driveby limit. As you can see in David's post they don't do a static on you at Donington unless you fail a driveby. 911s are well known for being iffy on static test but OK on driveby, so the Donington way suits us. [:)] If you're not banging off the rev limiter all the way round there shouldn't be a problem (myself and the RS guys have never had an issue at Donington). p.s. Sorry about the GP clash.....having a Sunday for this day in the middle of the summer was too good to miss. I think they have a tele in the cafe [;)]

Thanks Ian. 3/4 'to' the red line then, otherwise 'of' the red line is a whacking 6,300 revs (approx)?

On my old 2.7 Carrera engined car with the stainless exhaust I was 107db at 3/4 revs and has to 'work at it' to get the noise down. The 964 seems very quiet in comparison and any test would be at about 4.500 revs - remember to keep your foot on the clutch as well as that makes a few db difference. As others have said, it is only needed at Donington if you fail drive by. Ian
