968 Club Sport at long last

Finchampstead! Bloody hell! Thats about 5 mins from me in Arborfield. I would be happy to offer a lift Mike, but I am out of the country at the moment. Come to think of it, I have seen that car around!

Good luck with it, and congrats!

Cheers,
Dave

Arborfield! Bloody hell! Thats about 5 mins from me in Earley [:D][:D]

If only I had a 968....someone pulled the rug from under me[;)]

Hehe - small world eh Glenn? I have just moved from Winnersh before Christmas.

Keep up the hunting! Give me a shout if you fancy a ride out to the regional monthly meets any time. I will be going in March, but my old man will be with me then, and hes a big fella, so I can't squeeze him in the back. Should be a good one - at the OPC at J12.

Cheers,
Dave

Maybe we could start an ex-Reading thread... I used to live in St Peters Road in Earley!

Cheers,

David

Yes, great, I will be there..... If the weather is ok (and I haven't found a 968) I can always bring my R300. Its been tucked up in the garage since October and I'm dying to get it out[;)]

Rob, how long did you live in St Peters Rd? I'm off Elm Lane, top of Wilderness Rd...

I haven't even got it yet and I'm spending money like its going out of fashion[:'(] and to top it all the wifes Ka has had to have 4 new tyres and a new exhaust today [8|] typical.
Oh well the MG will be gone soon and I'll have some money back to spend on sorting out the new toy.....can't wait [:D]

Anyway the insurance was sorted today with Peart...bloody expensive @ £665 with full no claims and a 500 excess but its the best I've managed to find and believe me I spoken to dozens of companies today including all the popular perfomance car insurers and some Porsche 'so called' specialists, LHD doesn't help but hey as I keep telling myself its a Porsche [8D]. The MG was £580 so not too much more.

Just booked my train ticket online with Virgin @ £17 from Stafford direct to Reading on Saturday so apart from getting across to Finchampstead I'm sorted, hopefully Phil will pick me up so we can whizz around to the P.O. and tax the beast before they close at lunchtime.

Glenn seriously if you want to meet up for a quick chat I'd love to see the R300 if you've got time on Saturday. I'm coming into Reading on the 10am train so should be done and dusted with Phil by about 11.30 just in time for a swift half and a portion of Betty's hot pot before heading oop norf [;)]

Mike [8D]

Yes Glenn, it would be great to see your R300. It would be a welcome relief at our boggo 911 infested meets! Of course, I hope you have a 968 by then though.

Mike, I am with Peart too - a revelation of decent price and good customer service. I nearly fell off my chair when a real human answered the phone. I wouldn't say 665 was that bad at all. I am the same with regard to NCB and excess, but with 6 pts and I am 28yo, car garaged and unlimited mileage - about 900 quid, almost 500 quid cheaper than last year...

I agree with what you say about Porsche "Specialists"....

Cheers,
Dave

Mike

Sounds like a good idea, I may be around or I may not depending on what happens over the next day or two. I've taken your advice and got my finger out, Im just hoping I got it out quick enough! [;)]

Ok, so where is cheapest for insurance? I'm old (41) and won't be doing any more than 1000 miles a year... can't you get one of these on a classic policy?

Glenn

Rob...

I've been around there alot longer than that. Started school at southlake infants in 1967....lived in Woodley till I got married and Earley ever since. Now whos showing their age?[:D]

Glenn

Keeping the Reading thread going, set up my first home with my wife in a small rented cottage in Aldermaston village -- only just down the road. We are talking late 70's so bang goes my cover on age!

paul

Glenn, I wasn't even born in '67 let alone going to school [;)]

So what have you pulled your finger out of or do you want to keep schtum until you've sealed the deal ?

Mike

Mike

I was determined to spend no more than 10k on a car, but I really want James' and he wanted to sell it to me as he knows I'll care for it. I'm hacked off that I couldn't get to him last weekend as hes now in Oz. Anyway, his father is dealing with it and I want to go over to view next weekend if its not sold. Have a look on ebay, even better, have a look on there tomorrow night at about this time. I will be pulling my hair out []

Glenn

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules about who is the cheapest - it depends on your situation really. Classic policies are only available once a vehicle has reached 10yo - so 9 months for mine to go! Oddly enough, my car was first registered on my birthday, albeit my 19th birthday... 1000 miles per annum will help to lower the cost a bit, as will the fact that you have 3(?) other cars

Well, you can all relax about being the oldest, 'cos I turn 51 in a week or two[&:]

It has its advantages though, my 968 is insured with Direct Line of all people, on an ordinary unlimited policy, and it costs me £338.

See ... getting old is not so awful [:D]

John H (old git)

Yes, it must be terrible being young and having to fork out so much for insurance [:D][:D][:D]

Glenn
You really wanted that 968CS 'cause you bid me right out of the equation. Good luck with it and enjoy it.

All the best

Allan
