968 Club Sport at long last

I don't think it will go at anything below 11.5 to 12K, when I first started looking he wanted 13 ish which is what put me off it even though it is very nice.

Unfortunately tho' I can see the car being unsold for quite some time if he does hold out. I reckon its true market value is around 10K. You never know Glenn if you hold out long enough he might have to sell it off for whatever he can get.

I never was any good at poker, here was me sat thinking you were all "played out" at around ÂŁ9,800 but no you had out foxed me.

Sit tight it will probably come to you. As a trader I couldnt pay any more than my top bid as I still have to ensure that it's top dollar, add a margin , advertise etc etc.

I had set my 'max bid' pretty high, but no-one wanted to play ball till you came along[] You were banging those bids in pretty quick though and you did have me worried!

Thanks for your honesty. I reckon the final bid is about right for a private sale....

If you secure the car for cÂŁ10.5k you will have done very well. There is one at a dealer for ÂŁ13750 albeit with M030 but no a/c. 10,000 miles less etc.

Get it & enjoy it

Did you say at a dealer or a stealer [;)][:D]

Not trying to defend dealer margins but, a few facts:-

Assume dealer has ÂŁ3,000-00 gross margin. Car needs to come with warranty, deduct ÂŁ700-00, Car needs inspection, deduct ÂŁ70-00. Car needs sales preparation, deduct ÂŁ150-00. Client has PX, expects more for it than it's worth, deduct ÂŁ500-00 for over allowance. Apportioned advertising, deduct ÂŁ75-00, Comm to salesman, deduct ÂŁ100-00. Interest on money being idle, deduct ÂŁ50-00. So far we have removed ÂŁ1,645-00 from the ÂŁ3k initial margin, leaving ÂŁ1,365-00. This will attract VAT on the profit therefore removing a further 17.5%. Only leaving around ÂŁ1225-00

This then has to pay towards the showroom, salesmans salary, admin, company cars, auditors, rectify any post sale faults etc. And assumes that the car was pukka on sale with no money to be spent.

Not really a lot for all that cash outlay, effort, risk etc.

Would you do it [;)]

Allan

Thats why I'm in Telecomms and not used cars [:D]

However don't forget a lot of the dealer trade picks cars up at auction or PX's normally at a substantial saving so the margins can be higher than 3K in some cases.

I don't envy anyone in the used car trade at the moment though, I'm having enough trouble selling my MG so I'd hate to have a showroom full [;)]

Enjoy the drive home Mike and welcome to Porsche ownership

Mike

The anticipation levels are sky high, yet no word.

Probably so excited that time on the net is seen as time wasted when there is a 968 on the drive.

yours patiently

[Long Answer]

First impressions are varied, but I'm still getting used to the car and left hand drive.

I had a cracking run home, filled her up in Reading, picked up a tax disc and cruised back up the Motorway at a steady 130/140 KMH (85-90) and used about half a tank for 150+ miles, which is better than the MG.

Straight line speed is impressive although not as quick off the mark as I expected, only a tad quicker than my MGZS upto about a ton, but it comes into its own once you get it at speed, easily pulling in top on demand to silly speeds (I admit I have tested her on my private test track and I had to back off at 260KMH as I ran out of road[:-] 162 in english money).

Engine and mechanicals are sweet, no nasty noises or smoke etc... Gearchange seems a bit clumsy, but again that could be a combination of LHD and me getting settled in.

Body is immaculate, but having a poke around I'm wondering if its had some work done, some odd new nuts and bolts on the inside of the lower front bumper section and part of the inner wing plastic protector cut away. Also parts of the engine bay look too clean with traces of fresh wax, so again it may have had a light frontal difficult to tell. It certainly drives well with the exception of a very slight pull to the left which does feel like tracking rather than anything more sinister with the outer edges of the front tyres are starting to feather. Oh and the back en is debadged i.e. no 968 CS badge.
I'm actually wondering if its had a total respray the paint is that good and having washed it this afternoon I've scoured every inch for wear and tear and there isn't any.

Windscreen is covered in tiny scratches like someone attacked it with a belt sander !!! I see a broken screen coming shortly if you know what I mean[;)]

Braking is good pulls up sharp and straight.

Interior is 90% there, just a bit flaky around the edges, ashtray rattles, cig lighter doesn't work, one of the speedo bulbs as gone and the rear hatch rattles but does not leak. Also no radio just a big hole with dodgy bits of wire hanging out. (Jobs for tomorrow).

Wheels are mint but rear tyres are nearly on the limit a month or two I reckon if I'm careful.

Other observations the car does need to be "driven" more than my MG did, it handles superbly but having not found the limit I'm still warey of it biting back at the moment. Also at speed i.e. above normal motorway speeds the front seems a bit wishy washy, might just need some new shocks although nothing apparent when you chuck it into corners at slower speeds.

Overall I'm really pleased, there are just a few little bits and bobs to sort and a bit more backroad action and I'm sure we'll be best of friends.

Pics tomorrow when the daylight returns [;)]

Ooh nearly forgot, also had some looks coming up the motorway, mainly from ladies in passenger seats of lesser saloons and also the occasional Nova boy. Also had a blast with a guy in a 330CI and blew his doors off...Porsche 1 - BMW 0 [:D]

Congratulations Mike, a job well done! We're all looking forward to the pics, so I hope you washed it properly [;)]

I think you'll find the solution to the hatch rattle is to fit the stereo [:)]. Only kidding, mine rattles too and I can't be @rsed to fix it. Something to do with adjusting the retaining pins.

Also I have a spare tab lighter for a 968 somewhere if you need it...
