991 Owners Cars

My 991 story starts in around 2003 when I bought my first Porsche, which was a 2001 Seal Grey 986 Boxster S. From the moment I drove away in that car I have been hooked on Porsches.

I part exchanged my Boxster for a 2004 996 Carrera 4 in Cobalt Blue, with grey leather. It was the demonstrator for the Porsche dealership in Chiswick, so had a nice set of options including the switchable exhaust which sounded great. 15 years or so later and we still have 'Piggy' as part of the family. I have recently registered it on the Porsche Classic register, which makes me start to feel old as it felt quite cutting edge when I bought it. 😁

A couple of years ago I bought an RS60 Spyder (number 1855/1960), as I missed having a soft

top. I have really enjoyed the Boxster. It brought memories back of my first Boxster and it has been great fun to drive.

I was looking for a manual 991 C4 GTS about 18 months ago and the dealership in Leicester had one pop up on the used car locator. I put a deposit down unseen and it turned out to be a Richard Attwood Legends Edition in Guards Red. It is the first GTS I have driven and I have to say, it puts a smile on my face just turning the ignition on and hearing the engine. I have found the performance and handling of the car to be fantastic and a very different drive to the 996. I am loving driving it (when we were allowed out....).

I am fairly new to the Porsche Club and I am really looking forward to meeting up with the other members at some of the events, once we are all able to.

I am really enjoying owning and driving the car (and looking forward to a post lock down drive...). It is a different drive to anything I have driven before and great fun.

 
You are very welcome here stteale. I suspect that you will love the car even more in time/miles.

I can tell you that I had CC retrofitted by my OPC about 3 years ago. It cost £550 back then but well worth it to me.

How does it go off the line is Sport mode?

 
I also retro-fitted a cruise control in 2019 (at Colchester OPC) on my then 2013 Carrera 4S. Cant remember what it cost (c£600?), but worth every penny. Also had the Power Kit fitted. An extra 30 HP? - dont you believe it. I think it was more like 40 or 50 HP. It transformed the car. Last year I replaced it with a 991 Gen 2 Carrera 4GTS from Chester OPC. That is a superb car, far more torque at lower RPM than the 3.8 Gen 1 car, but I have to admit the 3.8 does make a slightly better sound. You cant have everything in this world!

car is Racing Yellow, has the Aero Kit, Porsche Power upgrade, PCCB, plus a host of other options.

Just obtained a set of spare wheels with winter tyres, so going to enjoy it whatever the weather :)

ref the build spec of your car - you can get it from Porsche Cars GB - give them a ring and they'll pull out the build sheet for you. It takes a bit of decoding as it has the standard spec items on there as well as the optionals - but it's all there. Used to be able to get this through the club but that was discontinued some time ago.

cruise retrofit as others have said is entirely doable - I've done mine via OPC and no problem.

as to the car using higher gear - it will do this in 'normal' mode as a fuel saving thingy. It also defaults to auto start stop which I find really irritating. So... there's a button on the centre console that turns off auto start stop function and also disables the 'sailing' (clutch disengages when you're up to speed) - first button I press when I get in.

the car will in that mode try to up-gear to help fuel efficiency anyway though so use of your right foot will kick it down and then it'll want to hunt up again - that's normal. To turn that off press sport - but you lose 7th in that mode. I find normal driving without sport mode but with the auto start-stop off is easily managed with my right foot - kicking down when I want and cruising when I don't mind. Also note the accelerator pedal has two pressure points - first one to kick down, and a second one beyond that to go to lowest gear at the current speed. Another trick with that pedal is a sharp tap that kicks down and sets you up for corners or an overtake for 30 seconds or so.

Flickr changed their own API a good few years back Steve - the forum advice is now, like so much of IT, rather outdated. Follow t’ link above to the other post and you’ll be set, no trouble 💪

Yes you can still use Flickr hosting and images and refer to them on the forum.

[ol][*]Navigated to the particular image you want to shared and then click what looks like the download icon in Flickr, there you need to select the the 'View all sizes' (I think the forum has a max pixel size allowed) I tend to use 'Large 1024', click on the preferred size you want the images will appear[*]Then move you mouse curser over image and right mouse click to copy the URL of the image.[*]Paste the URL in to your message and at the beginning add
and you should be OK :)[/ol]as demonstrated below :)
