9912S or 997TTgen 2 ?

Having had a good session or two on the configuratior I spent lunchtime at my Opc and with the finance guy.

It seems that for remarkably little more money,I could get into a 991 turbo and this seems crazy to pass up .
So I am going to look at that option- hopefully in time for Xmas / New year .

Thanks again for all the help and looking forward just a little !!! To 2015![:D]

Crikey that's a nice result of man maths and man shopping [:D]
I however have no doubt that you'll wonder how you ever lived without it in the new year [8D]

Well.

If budget creep is on the menu...

I drove this on Friday and cannot describe how good it was - still can't quite work out why - 4 wheel steering possibly? I have never driven anything like it, absolutely amazing.

Good call and a logical conclusion to the thread [;)]

Perhaps it was the marmite paint job that did it, I saw one at OPC yesterday and the "black ears" reminded me of Mickey Mouse.

But joking apart I agree it is hard to put your finger on why the 991T is so good. But it surely is. [:)]

I like marmite! I don't like the black door handles but am always a sucker for a PORSCHE stripe down the side!

How I laughed when the 918 Spyder had to pull over for me at the PEC!!

What a car.

one final twist .....sorry!!
having had an even longer think....and seen a very nice sapphire blue turbo s at hatfield i have decided on a 991 4GTS
i can upgrade to a 991 gen 2 turbo s in 3yrs if the desire/need arises(no doubt it will!)
apart from speccing it in sapphire blue i have added a few options-it seems to have most of the ones i want as standard-but the one i am stumbling on before placing the deposit for xmas delivery is the wheels
do i go for the matt black standard centre lock20" or do i go for the silver 20"noncentre locks-same price -i am just not sure which looks better ,and have some probably misguided anxiety about the centre locks.
i dont intend tracking the car(not much anyway)
thoughts please -honestly this is the last one!!
cheers

For something like wheels, there's little value in other's personal opinion as it's just a case of personal aesthetics.

The past concerns about centre locks is not so relevant. When all said and done they can cover many miles. From what I could see the issue was about changing the servicing expectation after owners had bought the car. You'll struggle to remove a centre lock wheel by yourself, but then how often do remove a five stud wheel. If seldom to never then it's not a concern. If you do like removing wheels yourself then it's something to consider.

As prev post ,its a matter of personal preference if you are a avid cleaner/diy type of guy then there is less hassle,
having had both my preference would be the std 5 stud, but that's because I am not a fan of black wheels[:'(]
and it appears looking at the configurator there is no option of silver centre locks[8|]

I was able to get a November build for my GTS which was already allocated for my OPCs demo car, I thought of 4 wheel drive but in the end decided that the 2 wheel drive was what I really wanted. IF conditions are bad enough I have my Q5 and I may consider winter wheels and tyres for the GTS.

As for the rest of the spec, in my opinion GTS in its standard wheel configuration is the best value for money considering those wheels are a £2.4K option on the Turbo and standard + £930 to have them in gloss black on a Turbo S, only GTS has satin black.

I think if you are not careful with the options it's quite easy to remove the unique identity features of the GTS and turn it into a 911 which looks more like a Carrera 4S with a load of options. Clearly underneath it all that's exactly what it is but there are some features like the Black CL wheels and the interior that differentiate it. Again on the latter it's possible to delete the alcantara trim in favour of leather, then you could go for the aero cup body kit, delete the GTS logos from the doors and rear panel and it will look like a 4S.

But at the end of the day, as Flat6 says, it's your own personal opinion that counts, go on another forum and you will find someone who says it looks awful regardless of the wheels etc and not worth the price.

thanks chaps!!
i am going to have to go and have a proper look at both sets of wheels before i decide -i cant get enough of a visual on the internet/mags.
i do think the satin black looks great with the carmine red paint-one of my two choices for ext colour but not so sure with the sapphire blue.......[8|]

Just curious why you're going for a 4GTS when your original 991 consideration was a 2S. Why the switch to 4WD? (I'm not at all opposed to 4WD by the way, just asking)

Decided it wasn't much more !!
TBH I thought with the poole commute in the winter 4WDmay be useful .

Yeah if you're looking to use the car all year round, the surefooted-ness of all wheel drive has to be a bonus in adverse conditions.
