Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

A pic to start the centenary page. No doubt there are more to come[:)]

Will really need to learn how to post my own pictures ...well the sun was shining here this morning and although still cold and salty roads i thought what the hell so took the car out ...What a machine it is Soooooo quick .the difference between my old 987 2.7 is night and day .still getting used to the gears to be fair and in time will become natural, so used to Tip on my Porsches all these years .The sound is amazing with the PSE on in fact cant see me using it in ordinary mode .The cornering is on rails and feels very planted especially in Sports mode.Well just in for a wee cuppa and out for another run .will report back latter . Brian

That's good to hear Brian. They're loads of fun these cars and as you mentioned, the grip is good and that gives a good basis for lots of fun with the car telling you "is that all you've got"[:)] To post an image, take the image link and put
after it i.e.
(but with no spaces - i've put spaces so as not to make it try to link in the gobbledy gook I typed). To link in a picture from a website, right click on the picture and choose something like 'copy image URL'. You can then paste it in and put
after it. You'll need to get familiar with a site like flickr.com in order to upload your own pictures that site, so that you can then link them in from that site. You then take the link of the picture you've uploaded and post it as described about. Do you have someone local who can show you how to upload photo's to flickr.com or similar?

Whilst giving 23 MY a lovely spring waxing with Harly as it is 3 years old today [8D] we had a visitor turn UP in his 821 mile! Spyder which was proudly displaying 21 days to it's 1st service [:D] In the meantime I am enjoying a nice cuppa whilst admiring my shiny almost wet look paintwork on my 3 year old girl[;)]

23UP is looking fine daro. The best stories and photos are the home produced ones (looking forwards to Brian's second installment - keep an eye on the fuel gauge Brian whilst you're having too much fun[;)] ) My car needs a good clean before I can get the camera out [&o] Rob, i'm going to have to read up on the Porsche 962 and 956 domination. A good education i'm sure[:)]

Now back and cleaned all the white salt powder off it [:'(] I did notice the front wheel rims are covered in black dust despite having them coated in rim wax a lot more that i can remember in the other car with 17" rims . All cleaned now .. I removed the hood and rear screen as this is the first time i have tried it and noticed that i seem to be missing the rear glass deflector all the clips are there but no screen ,is this standard or a extra as noticed on one site they are close to £380 ouch . Also was given a paint touch stick 80K but in the book it says L84R perhaps John could check his code for me. Will have to check fuel as i am sure the tank must be smaller as the gauge seems to be going down quicker than usual may have some thing to do with my speed no doubt[;)] [;)] If a decent day may venture out tomorrow but suspect the roads may be busy with day trippers being a bank holiday . Brian

The wheels do seen to suffer from brake dust unfortunately. Comes off easily enough if you've used wheel wax. Flat6's stayed cleaner than mine when we went out for our little jaunt together yet he us heavier on the brakes than me. Perhaps he uses a better product? Rob, lovely pics as ever. The white backed seats look nearly as cool as buckets [;)] 100 pages - who'd have ever thought it when new unused Spyders were sitting around awaiting the cognoscenti! Edited to add - wind deflector should be standard fit, I'm 99% sure.

Brian the wind deflector was standard on the Spyder so yours has been misplaced as it should have been there when supplied new[&o]

And much better it is than the pair of tights sadly fitted to the 981 in lieu of the clever Perspex arrangement!

Although seemingly trivial ,over the four weeks I had the loan 981!the awful tights rear screen really irritated me ,right till,I got my 987 with lovely clear rear screen back .have to say I did feel mine was more flingable but maybe that was partly as the 981 was very new ??i wasn't convinced though so shan't be rushing out to replace it - may yet go with the 997 TT gen 2 PDK option if I can't find a nice Spyder

Iain at FinerDetails put a paint sealant on the wheels. I don't know what he used but I know he's a Swissvax authorised detailer so perhaps all his products come from them. It's unfortunate that your wind deflector has been misplaced Brian but you should contact them to request that it be supplied. I would be surprised if they quibbled. It would be there job not to miss that when they acquired the car.

You could have 2 Spyders with that budget. Had an interesting day, spent the morning in my pal's beautiful 997.2 Carrera and he kindly let me drive it for a while too over an interesting A road. Spent the afternoon in the Spyder. The 2 cars pretty much share the same birthday but with its lovely extras (lots of leather for one) the Carrera cost £30k more than the Spyder new. At OPC prices, there's a couple of grand in it now. The Carrera (with optional PASM) rode better, had no silly hood noise, felt more expensive inside, had nice luxuries like PCM3 and Bose, but as a driver's car, intimidates like only a 911 can. With my pal driving, it even had a little moment coming off a deserted roundabout. He was as surprised as i was. From a handling perspective I was astonished how much extra confidence the Spyder generates. It feels quicker, it oozes confidence, it's easier to drive quickly. A lot easier. It's funny how similar the 2 cars are - under the front bonnet is identical, the gear stick, handbrake, centre console, doors are all the same. They are chalk and cheese to drive though. 911 is ultimately more rewarding possibly? Spyder more fun? At least the Spyder roof stops you exploiting the readily available speeds that can get you into trouble in a 911...

Interesting Rob. I guess that extra confidence will certainly translate to speed. You'll have to hang onto your Spyder unti you're willing to take the plunge into a GT3[;)]

You're right Brian, the Spyder does have a smaller, lighter 54ltr fuel tank as standard. Some were optioned with the larger tank.

A GT3 was the other option but a 991 GT3 is going to be too much for a year or two - still may be worth the wait as it does look good !!
