Hi Cecil

Nice to hear from you and that Maurice is doing well ,he is definitely one to watch in the future have seen a few vids of him ,has come a long way since Larkhall kart circuit .

I still have the 987 Spyder coming up for 9yrs, defo a keeper have a list of people wanting to buy it ,sold the 981 back in 2018.

John Dunn is Spyder less at the moment . Take care and hope both your dreams come true , as Rob said

Dad of the year is certainly true in your case .

Brian
Thanks Brian [:)]

I remember coming up to Larkhall in karting [:)] We're back up there racing at Knockhill next weekend. Remind me, where are you based?

Glad to hear you still have the 987 Spyder; good decision. I still miss mine.

No doubt John received offers he couldn't refuse. Both models very sought after.

Thanks for the tip off Brian 👍

What's the mileage on your Spyder now? How often do you drive it?

Nice colour combo. Was that fixed in the 550 special edition?

Guys Silverstone Porsche must have the lowest mileage RS60 Spyder for sale today in the world! John's must surely have more miles than this one :ROFLMAO:

The 550 Spyder came in ie Tiptronic or Manual . Cocoa or Dark Gray interior. Hood in either Black or Cocoa.

All had GT Silver paint with dark grey wheels ,forget colour all where lowered and had 5mm spacers and 10bhp over the standard car . mine was Tip .gray .and black hood .

My Spyder has only covered very few miles now standing at 13.560 . bit of a garage queen fair weather car but have use of other Porsches to use .

There are 2 Spyders for sale at Porsche Preston. One a 718 and one a 981

They did have a black 981 Spyder in last week but it must have been sold.

It reminds me of the Cayman S Sport. Subtle differentiators but brings about a very desirable model. Likewise with the Boxster S 550 Spyder.

Super low miles on your 987 Spyder Brian I wonder if it's the lowest....

My 987 Spyder has done 19,000 miles, and I have to say there is a reluctance to see the 20K come up knowing how people do value low milages when it comes to selling. Shame really as we should be driving these cars whenever the opportunity presents. With that in mind, I've just bought a 2008 Cayman S with 65k on it, with the idea that for long motorway journeys, wet weather and winter use, the Cayman will have an airing. The Spyder has no aircon or radio, so I think I may have found a happy balance. Its interesting to jump from the Spyder to a gen 1 Cayman S. The extra weight is evident as well as fewer horses, but not as big a gap as one might imagine. Both are on 19" wheels, the Spyder on Michelins, and the Cayman on Pirellis. Given a choice I would choose the Michelins.

I know what you mean about not wanting to over use it and take the mileage up too high. I sold my 987 Spyder back in 2014 as I'd taken it from 3,000 to something like 24,000 miles in a couple of years and didn't want it to be too high come re-sale.

The cost of running another Porsche might be more than the cost of enjoying more miles in the Spyder but I can totally understand where you're coming from as you will keep the Spyder fresh for yourself too.

I too had a Gen 1 Cayman S. That was just prior to the Spyder. The sum of the small differences between the two is quite profound. The reduced weight, passing dampers and the resultant steering feel, I really enjoyed the driving dynamics of the 987 Spyder 👍

The ultra low milage Spyder on offer at Porsche Silverstone at £45k has been driven, on average, about 200 miles/annum. More likely it has been laid up for some of those years with no miles driven at all. Can't believe thats good for the motor or anything else. The car becomes an investment rather than a great car to own and drive. Will the person buying this car ever use it normally, or will they continue to stroke it, polish it, and then put the cover back on?

I'm afraid low milage has become a sort of 'bragging rights' at POC meetings. We are all getting a bit tarnished by this including me, and its fuelled by the demand for low milage cars that dealers are asking, and getting, silly money for. It throws up an entirely different class of ownership which is fine I guess, but as values increase, then the joy of having a good run on a nice road IN THE WET will become a rarity.

Well I took delivery of my 718 Spyder in Crayon in June. Happy to say I have 3000 miles already and with any luck just as many on before the winter hits. Everyone to there own.

For me a car such as these has had hundreds of thousands of hours spent developing and honeing by the best tech minds at Porsche. Why? To create a fabulous driving machine and experience. The clue is in the description.

Its so sad to own such a car and see it as a commodity and to worry about putting miles on it and as a result hardly fully enjoy it.

Sure they are pretty to look at standing still.

Putting miles on it is exactly what they are for and with it I promise you smiles and more smiles. If you don't do this then you can't really call yourself a car person at all. You are no more than an investor / curator So go on, I dare you. No in fact I double dare you!!! Just get out there and drive and keep on driving more, enjoy the car doing exactly what it was deigned for. Just my not so humble opinion.

Thats all.

BTW the 718 Spyder is bloody amazing.

Could'nt agree more James......

My 981 Spyder has just clicked over 33,333 miles this morning on my way to work.

I'm now about to leave work and head to Donnington Park (via the extended A / B road route), to meet up with 9 other Spyder owners to enjoy a great time at the PCGB track day.

My priorities, Driving it, Looking at at, it's value.... in that order.

Here's to the next 30K miles and smiles :)

Re 718 Spyder, any feel for when the OPCs will drop their £10k+ mark up on slightly pre-owned?

I imagine over the winter, won't be too much demand.

Now I am in Devon, my local rep said he could not accept an order for a Spyder, and has not yet come back with a build date for the Boxster 4.0 I did order.

I could not order a Boxster 4.0 GTS, so gave up bought a Z4 and it's far better then expected. Nice gearing and a much better roof, and idrive 7 is great. Happy bunny and was 1/2 the price. Really nice to goto BMW and they want to sell you a car :). As for new cars dropping, with no new cars till 2023 then I would say 718 Spyders esp PDK cars will be high for another 18 months at least.
