"The Club Sport" concept that never made it into final production The first 911 Speedster caused a sensation when shown at the Frankfurt motor show in 1987. Porsche engineers demonstrated the mounting of the rigid tonneau which transformed the Speedster into the single seater 'Clubsport' version In the event most of the Clubsport features were not retained in the production Speedsters In Autumn 1988, a year after the Frankfurt launch, the new Speedster was shown to Porsche importers. The cars had the Turbo look with flared arches and the Clubsport option had been quietly dropped. Some European dealers had already placed orders for narrow bodied cars and so, starting in 1989, Carrera Speedsters began to be supplied in both narrow body and Turbo-look styles. A total of 2,104 3.2 Carrera Speedsters (option M503) were produced between January 1989 and July 1989. Almost half, 823, went to the USA and only 139 examples were produced in right hand drive format. Of the total only 171 narrow-body versions were produced, the Turbo-look being more popular.

Very interesting. I didn't think there were anything like 2104 Speedsters made, shows just how rare the Spyder is.

Got a call from the dealership and they have ordered a glass wind deflector for me and a new paint stick with the correct code L84 . Have to say they have been very good to deal with very professional that may be why the where voted Best dealership in 2012 . I know it has been asked and posted on here but how many RHD Spyder have been registered in the U-K . Plan to take it to my local Tipec meet tonight as weather is looking good sunny but still freezing still have pockets of snow in the back yard. Brian

Glad to hear they're sorting it Brian. There was some discussion about buying from a private seller vs OPC and I think it'd be difficult to get a private to cough up for a £380 missing part a few weeks after sale. I've always had a good follow-up spanning months after a purchase through OPC's. I think with the values of Spyders getting stronger and private sellers commanding close to OPC prices in some cases, i'm unlikely to change my personal view that i'd only buy from an OPC (just my personal view, by NO means a recommendation). That said, if you're after rare spec and come across the right car being sold by a private, you've gotta do what you've gotta do and John got himself a brilliant low mileage example.

Thanks for that Spyderwhite. Does anyone have World wide production figure to hand? Also, of the 231 UK models anyone have a breakdown by colour?

i have read a while back(some one wrote to porsche) but cannot find out where from there are about 1880 worldwide.this sits with what else i have seen and going by chassis numbers there are about 500 2011my north america and 950 2011my row plus 200 2012my na and 200 2012my row all numbers are circa

The genuine figures from PCGB - the company not the Club - are (although I must protect my source) for the 3.4 Spyder YEAR 2010 = 147 YEAR 2011 = 89 Jan 12 = 1 Total = 237 I can't remember seeing the world wide figure. Good result for Brian, those boys at Edinburgh certainly know what they are doing.

so 6 cars are unregistered still? i use the dvla site first registered new and not the how many left site so could your source be wrong? just checked it is the 2010 where the 6 cars have been added in and not registered 2011/2012 checks out with the dvla

Here's a discussion on the worldwide production figures. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/987-981-forum/732825-official-porsche-archive-production-figures-for-the-my2011-my2012-987-boxster-spyder.html

to the chap with the missing wind deflector is it not in its bag in the front of the car where the puncture repair kit is kept as thats where my bag is ?

flat 6 i have just sent an email to porsche germany with regards spyder production numbers wether i get an answer is an other thing will keep you posted!

There's a bag for the wind deflector? Must see if I have mine, never knew it existed! The Rennlist discussion is amusing - 1944 Spyders worldwide (so, less than the Speedster) and half of them in the USA. One poster going went far as: "The fact is that historians will probably judge this model as ONE of the most significant Porsches ever created! In time, it might be perceived as 'special' as the classic 356 Speedster of the 1950's!" [8|]

the rennlist production numbers are not conclusive as there are grey areas but there is certainly less than 2100going by chassis numbers(900 NA and 1200 ROW).i am the person on there quoting 1883 i read on a forum last april(i was off with a broken foot and spent my days trawling the net) of some guy in germany who wrote to porsche and asked the question.so i thought i would try the same and see if i get a reply
