Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

With the 7.2% Buyers Fees that takes it to £90,584.

Seems about right given the asking prices on Autotrader.

Agreed seemed a very fair price for seller & buyer and CC seem to move a Porsche quicker than those on Autotrader/Pistonheads etc

pretty high price for a car unseen and auction. £90.600 seems maddness, but good news for us owners I guess.

The cars can be seen by prior arrangement through CC before auction ends so the buyer may well have inspected before final bid was placed[;)]

Great news for all 718 Owners with low low miles

[]Are these issues as common as these guys think[&:]

I have a feeling that your oil pump failed and sheared off the bolts on the timing chain sprocket. Becoming a common failure now.

Uh. Yeah. My oil pump failed. Catastrophic engine damage. Waiting at dealer for them to authorize a replacement motor. 2667 miles.

This why I got rid of my Spyder. Engine noises, burning clutch etc. there is a problem with that engine and Porsche has so far been unwilling to acknowledge it.

Managed to pick up the 2011 Geneva Motor Show 987 Spyder in a one off colour by Porsche especially specified for that show along with a few extra's (meteor grey). It was made available recently from a respected Porsche collection in Switzerland. I know it's a left hand drive but I couldn't resist being the next custodian of a unique special car. It has only covered 6k miles and has never seen the rain and is pretty much concours condition. Now tucked away in an insulated, heated and dehumidified garage alongside my 981 Spyder.

The Perfect Pair and what a wonderful piece of motoring history a 1/1 987 Spyder ENJOY

Thank you.. I'm afraid my current 981 and new 987 won't see daylight very often due to work commitments, but the upshot is, every time they are driven there is a sense of occasion.

Is that the 4.0 lump?? There was a recall on models built first quarter 2021 where engines were rebuilt or replaced.

My 718 Spyder wasn't in that recall as Nov 2021, but following mine not starting (as post copy below), it was fitted with a complete new crated engine at 1800 miles.................. Regards Bill "It won't start." Oddly enough, that's why mine was recovered..................... It had to be taken to the nearest OPC from where it broke down..... As it happens it was my local OPC, but it could have been taken somewhere miles away from me had I ventured on a long journey when it happened. I did ask for images and I never expected to receive any, but they were indeed emailed to me. I couldn't see Headquarters being impressed though with me being provided with evidence from the OPC.

Does that mean your V5 had to be changed to match the new engine number 😳

Sunday June 18th Porsche Collection Auction concludes what will this one make!

[link=https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2015-porsche-981-boxster-spyder]2015 PORSCHE (981) BOXSTER SPYDER (collectingcars.com)[/link]

[ul][*]An exciting and delightfully melodious open-top sports car that has covered 16,300 miles at the hands of its three owners from new. [*]It is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre flat-six, delivering 370bhp and 310lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels through an engaging six-speed manual transmission. [*]The drive belt was replaced at 11,175 miles by Porsche Centre Leicester. [*]It is covered by a privately transferable and extendable Porsche warranty with roadside assistance, which currently runs until October 2023. [*][ul][*]This example is finished in Rhodium Silver Metallic with a black hood. [*]The cabin is trimmed in a combination of red leather and black Alcantara, complete with ‘Spyder’-embroidered headrests and aluminium-look trim. Oh yes, I had my doubts as to whether anyone would think to record the new engine number so I asked for images of it in the crate and of the actual marking which they sent me.

As an aside, has anyone actually seen their own 718 engine number in situ and if so, what was involved?

Quite a procedure to notify DVLA which is good really, so I asked the OPC to email me confirming the number as it wasn't on the original "zero" invoice I received for the work.

I posted this and the images along with the V5 and it came back within a week so all correct and legal!

I did ask if there were a recall would "the system" pick up not only my VIN but also the new engine number and was told it would......

I imagine the engine and "contaminates in the oil" (sic) would have been subjected to an extensive "forensic" investigation on return to Reading/Germany to ascertain failure mode and a decision made about a possible recall.........

Regards

Bill

There was a recall and stop production, but not all engines were replaced some were rebuilt by OPC (which I wouldn’t be happy with!)

What was your build date on failed engine?

Cut and pasted from above from Bill

Thank you Robert.

It is a 22 Model year which I think marked the availability of Shark Blue. As to build date, no idea!

But, thanks to Heritage, I've been able to ascertain the build date and dispatch to named dealer for my 1971 Triumph TR6 and subsequent purchase date from the original green "log book".

Does anything similar exist for recent Porsche cars?

Regards

Bill

Any OPC can provide a print out of all the build details for modern cars. It will include dates, standard features, options, modules and firmware version#
