I was happy enough to have bought the WHITE one at Newcastle had it worked out ...... i am delighted with my RED one and a bit exclusive with so few about [][] I would not have bought Black and unsure of Silver do not think it does anything to flatter the lines of the car .But colour is a personal thing .... It could be stationed at Head Office and come out for Track days giving all members a chance to drive and know what we all know[] This would have two benefits:- 1) Do a favour to Maudrell - and it should be cheap after being on the forecourt for 8 months[]! 2) After people had driven the 'Club Spyder' if would push the prices well North - Demand would not be able to keep up with supply. Im off to the Workers Index and AGM this weekend. I know Rob will be at the AGM. I will ask him to second my proposal! My local OPC is 5 minutes from the office, so there's no excuse not to check out the new Cayman (even though it can't be on my shopping list for the next car because i'd want 4 chairs). This was a Cayman S with PDK, Sport Chrono, standard suspension and 20 inch wheels. The Agate Grey / Pebble Grey two-tone leather interior was the icing on the cake. The cabin felt spacious and the extra leg room welcomed. The steering column adjusted electrically. Nice touch. The 981 Boxster I had driven was a manual. The PDK suited this Cayman well. Brake hard into a corner and it downshifts to exactly the right gear for corner exit, blipping the throttle on the downshifts. The first time you get back on the throttle on exiting a corner it takes you by surprise to be in such a low gear and the car launches out of the corner. The old PDK probably did something similar in that scenario, but what this car was doing was noticeable nonetheless. The salesman commented on the difference also. Now, the steering came as a surprise. It was as direct as the Spyder. Now, whilst I didn't have great conditions for the Boxster test, I did get to take it over a twisty 1 mile stretch and back with some gusto on one fair-ish weather occasion during the loan. It performed. However, this Cayman was a bit more oversteery - more like the Spyder set up. It didn't oversteer as such but hopefully you get what I mean. The salesman explained that Porsche carried out an extra 200 road hours developing the drive they wanted for the Cayman as they wanted the Boxster and Cayman to be significantly different to drive. So, whilst the majority of mechanicals will be the same. The suspension set-ups (and whatever else related on the chassis) are significantly different. And yet, it doesn't have the firmer ride of the Spyder. I wouldn't even opt in the PASM. In fact, the Sport Chassis introduced for the Boxster might ruin it. It currently delivers a direct drive but with a supple ride and that can deliver more traction on uneven surfaces than a more stiffly sprung set-up anyway. And when we were stuck in slow convoys behind tractors (twice[]) the car drove as comfortably as the Boxster. I have to say, the car is sublime and if you don't need rear seats or more power it is a brilliant choice. If you're more into your drive and not so particular about open versus closed roof, you should go drive one. If you had strong reasons for not considering the Cayman, you should still go and drive one anyway[] (For some reason my phone's camera was set on the lowest resolution, so the pics are a bit small.)

Great write up Dr Spyder! Hope the new evil temptress doesn't cost any Spyder love out there! Depending on what other goodies were fitted, that must be a £60k car so a £30k price to change if you let the OPC take your Spyder off your hands for a smooth transition. I bet if you spent 2 days in it you wouldn't be disappointed when you got back in your Spyder. I appreciate this is comparing apples with oranges but you get my drift I hope. Rob, I do like a pale interior, your MINI looks good.
You're welcome guys. Getting back in the Spyder felt fine as they have a similar feel to the steering. Spot on Rob, the car was optioned up to £63K. Daro, the MINI interior looks good. Do the lighter colours wear OK? The salesmen have new car inductions at PEC. He said they drove the new car back to back with the 987 and 3 cars from other marques. He did say what they were but you can guess. Those who've been on the PEC handling circuit will remember the fastest part of the circuit, heading towards the Experience Centre building, followed by a sharp right corner. He said that in the other cars you had to scrub off massively more speed than the 981 to enter that corner. One car he described as hopeless. Another wanted to go straight on. It seems the competition will struggle to get near the 981's ability.
