Rob If you have not all ready done it may be a good idea to get The Regional Organsers on board in and around the NW area. Request them to post the event on there forum. Also request them to include the event in email updates and say a few words on Club nights. Sorry I cant attend but best of luck with the event, lets hope that the weather is good. Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

The car is looking squeaky clean John. Good to hear that it passed all tests[] A pic to follow daro's theme. You can go as fast or as slow as you like on a PCGB track day. Faster cars pass you on the left and only on straights. So if you're not Lewis Hamilton you will not put any wear on your tyres or brakes setting lap record after lap record and if you're not Pastor Maldonado, you will not end up in the wall because you will not be going faster than your car will carry you through a corner[] Truth is, if you are wavering about going to a track day, you probably won't drive your car beyond 5 tenths of it's capabililty. (And even though i'm up for going and not wavering I probably don't get beyond 5 tenths either but I just enjoy the experience of an open road [] )
"Spyder" - the open vehicle concept. A couple of weeks ago we were talking about how many different Porsche Spyders there have been and we came up with 3. Then I came across another Spyder the other day - the 917 RSK Spyder
This pic also claims to be a 917 RSK Spyder but it doesn't look like other pics i've seen in terms of the rear humps and rear spoiler. The spoiler lip reminds me of ours though. Has anyone seen a car like this before and/or can confirm what it is?
Then last week at our regional club evening, we watched a film covering the history of Porsche. It predominantly covered the racing side and I made a note of the Spyders mentioned which tend to be based on closed roof endurance racers that were converted to Spyders for particular racing categories.
There was a Spyder version of the 908
Some of you will have seen the 917 at the Cayman launch.
Don't forget the 917 PA Spyder
The 917 was developed into a Can-Am racer as the 917/30 Can-Am Spyder. I believe the 917/30 was the most powerful sports car racer ever built and raced. The 5.374-litre 12 cylinder twin-turbocharged engine could produce 1,580 bhp in qualifying tune and usually raced with around 1,100 bhp. It's the most expensive Porsche sold at Auction at $4,400,000. The twin humps with the bar across them reminds me of our 987 Spyder.
And the ones we know
No doubt there are more Spyders in the Porsche family. Then there's the name "Bergspyder" for hillclimb variants....

Hi John. The ROs for R5, R6 and R18 have all been great. I went to last month's meeting at R5 and was even invited to say a few words and I took some brochures/booking forms. I think I have posted on all relevant PCGB forums. It is our Club night on Wednesday so will see if we can pick up any extras there - support from R18 has been pretty good it has to be said. Good selection of race cars above to inspire everyone - can't promise any of those but there will be some great motors there.ORIGINAL: jdpef356 Rob If you have not all ready done it may be a good idea to get The Regional Organsers on board in and around the NW area. Had to ring to find out story. This garage has just started using PH. They set up an account and asked for stock to be listed. Somehow PH have picked up some of the previously sold stock and put on the PH web site. Further question revealed they did sell this Spyder in 2012 close to asking price. And it didn't hang around long then. Up the REDS![]

When they say they sold it for close to the asking price, I wouldn't expect them to say anything else. WE know that in 2012 they weren't going for that much. I know how much I paid an OPC for mine in early 2012, with similar mileage and mine is a late 2010. We also know that some cars have hung around for an age but whilst they have looked nice in the pictures, we don't know their condition and history, which impacts why they have hung around. Currently, good cars are selling in weeks rather than months. Aside from OPC cars and cars at renowned specialist dealers, some of the prices we have seen have been surprisingly low, or high, but cannot be put into context without knowing more about the cars or the sellers mindset (or lack of knowledge of their market value). You're better off watching just the cars from OPC's, renowned specialist dealers and private sellers (the latter can have some good cars as we know, but the ultra cheap or ultra steep priced cars from privates can be discounted from assessing market value, for obvious reasons). Personally, i'll just continue to watch the OPC cars, which is pretty easy as there's only 1 []. The wider market will always be in constant supply.
Fortunately whatever you are watching OPC / Specialist / Arthur Daley or Privates the choice is incredibly low right now and I can't see that changing any time soon and I would be very surprised if the one OPC car doesn't sell before another OPC grabs himself one []
You were spot on Daro, when they go down to 1, there'll always be another OPC desperate to get a piece of the action. Thought i'd take a look as we're on the subject and now the OPC supply has doubled, back to 2[] Porsche Boxster Spyder, £ 38,495 With 2 Years of Porsche Approved Warranty Car data Displacement: 3,400 cc Power Output: 305 bhp Drivetrain: 2-WD Transmission: Manual Fuel: Petrol Colour: Arctic Silver Metallic Colour (interior): Black leather interior with sport seats Location of the car: Porsche Service Centre Byfleet Vehicle Ident Number: WP0ZZZ98ZBS740107 Mileage: 14,075 m Registration Year: 03/10 Consumption - urban: 14.2 l/100km (19.9 mpg) Consumption - extra urban: 7.1 l/100km (39.8 mpg) Consumption combined: 9.7 l/100 km (29.1 mpg) CO2-Emissions combined: 221 g Price: £ 38,495 Equipment 19-inch Carrera S II wheel 6-speed manual transmission Cruise control Floor mats Fully automatic climate control Heated seats Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module Porsche crest embossed on head restraints Sound Package Plus including CD storage Sport Chrono Package Plus Sports exhaust system Sports seats Steering column casing leather Sun visors leather Telephone module for PCM Universal audio interface Wheel centre set Contact details Request more information Porsche Service Centre Byfleet
Not the most popular colour on our recent survey. And a bag of concrete in each boot just to add to the heavyweight spec... I hope it is exactly what someone is looking for and that it's a good 'un.
You're right Rob, and Silver ones have proven to be the slowest movers. It's a winter/comfort spec car[], which as we've seen, doesn't add anything to the value. But ultimately I think these cars are chosen on whether someone wants buckets or winter warmers the colour and to a lesser extent, the wheels As you say, if it's what someone is looking for, it's good to go. If it isn't, it may be too much of a compromise for some. I couldn't compromise on 2 of the 3 above factors, so I personally couldn't take it on. If the wheels were changed, I'm still not a fan of the Silver. Just a personal thing.
Yesterday I decided to disconnect the electrical connector for the sports exhaust, just to see if I like it in loud mode all the time. Before I put the engine cover back on I took it for a quick blast to check it had worked - OMFG! Loud doesn't begin to describe the engine noise with the cover off and the induction noise was superb. As for the exhaust, it sounds great, think I'll leave it this way for a while, although the engine cover is now back in place!
