Not sure if i am ok with XX on the post [:D][:D] I hope you are all having better weather on a Bank holiday Monday than us up here Rain !!! I rather like that photo of the Red car with the black wheels and the Red cheese graters [;)] and with mine having the Red hoops it would blend in and be nice i think ?? If the air intakes front and rear where painted Black or even Red perhaps you technical guys could do a Photo shop to see how it would look. Brian

glorious and sunny down here brian ,though as stuck in ENT clinic it might as well be raining!!!

Had the pleasure of driving back to back drive in my manual Spyder MY followed by the PDK Spyder UP 75 glorious miles in 22' and lots of rays [8D]

ORIGINAL: kitchens Daro911 Well what is the verdict M v PDK ? Brian
Well that is like asking Guards Red or Carrera White :ROFLMAO: Both cars are tremendous performers but the complicated answer I guess is as follows bearing in mind I am a totally commited stick shifter[:D] Drove both cars over identical route and back to back PDK first out .... Drove the car strictly in manual mode absolutely zero interest in how she goes as an auto. Driven in manual mode using the sport chrono and then sport + made no difference as I was in total control of all shifts up or down when in either mode. Driven as a manual the gear changes are lightning fast in either direction and of course the throttle feel adjusts in the same fashion as my manual car when in sport chrono mode. The biggest thrill in the pdk comes from no need to lift off when shifting up a gear and of course the perfectly matched revs when dropping down 1, 2, or 3 gears in a flash. These PDK chracteristics make for a very rapid machine in the real world so where on paper we are talikng 0.01 secs quicker to 62mph in reality it is a lot more than that for reasons stated above Without a doubt because of these characteristics I drove the car much quicker through the twisties especially when entering and exiting roundabouts. A life long task of clutch and gear stick action removed from the equation by flicking a paddle made my drive feel so much faster for zero effort at the same time. I exited the car beaming from ear to ear and very impressed indeed[8D] Time to repeat the 35 miles odd in my short shift manual [&o] Within a few gear changes I was once again having far too much fun but at a much lower rate of knots. There is a satisfaction to shifting gears in the traditional fashion and because the clutch and shift are so beatifully matched I found myself grinning with each shift of the yesterdays technology which is disappearing slowly but surely Conclusion:- If I had a PDK Spyder for sure it would only ever be driven as a manual. It would deliver all the fun and drama one would expect from a Porsche and I would have no regrets at owning a flappy paddle shifter but I fear I would always be travelling a lot faster than I do with my manual and their would be those occasions where a good spirited drive with a clutch and short shifter would be sorely missed from the adventure As an aside on Trip 2 Readout (data for actual journey)I returned 26.5 mpg with my manual 6 speed box and only just 23mpg with the PDK over the same route and using 7th gear! So much for more mpg but as stated I was driving it faster for sure If you are someone like my brother, who has no love for a manual, then the PDK is as good as it gets giving him as much manual interaction as he wants with zero effort. If like me you really enjoy shifting gears with the best clutch and box out there then a PDK will always leave you wanting [;)] Could I forgo my manual for a PDK without having any regrets .... Probably but not 100% convinced :ROFLMAO: [link=http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=987+spyder+manual&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=dRhngEwYLt1xXM&tbnid=xgbv1VGUTo03yM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.suncoastparts.com%2Fproduct%2F987OEKNOB.html%3FCategory_Code%3D9875manual&ei=gAGIUeMZgbnRBdiJgLAP&bvm=bv.45960087,d.d2k&psig=AFQjCNHiuWKl1BMEeKnXcPHqs-x16bA8IQ&ust=1367954148646514]

Tsk, Carrara white surely? [:D] Nail on head. PDK miles quicker in the real world but you end up revving the nuts off the car and getting poor mpg. The manual car is more rewarding for me too. Auto mode is very good in PDK too, it can almost read your mind!

I would very much suspect the choice between PDK and Manual is split between the following two groups. (1) The more senior drivers I would think prefer the manual shift[:D]. I know having been driving sice the early sixties (in fact I learnt to drive on an army one ton truck and had to double de clutch) and have only owned one automatic car in all that time (and that was for three weeks only) for it was driving me (didnt realise that till I read this again that DRIVING ME was the correct wording) crazy!! Why - lack of inter action. (2) The younger members of society who like all the gadgets and gizmos of today world including PDK. I have tried both and I can honestly say if Porsche only produced the Spyder in PDK I wiould not have one! [&o]

Nothing wrong with a good auto. My BMW is my third. It's largely used on motorways and in traffic jams; auto is perfect. At 42 I don't know if I'm young or old (!) but I prefer my weekend toy to be manual for now. 981 PDK is telepathic and even better than 987 version. I've had Cayman / Boxster S / 987 / 981 for nothing less than overnight as courtesy cars - one I had a fortnight - and that's over and above PEC days in various combinations too. Very much personal choice - as Daro says - red or white? The tech is amazing.

I don't see why PDK is miles faster, for one you have to go though all the gears on down shifts which is a pain In the arse coming to a round about in 7th and needing 2nd to come out the other side. And all by pressing a micro switch, and people say it's more demanding lol. You only gain time on the up shifts and that's only shows up on the strip. Than the added weight and heat starts to play a part. Better to pile in 6th gear, hit the anchors 100yards away with PCCB, a bit further out with steels lol And do the perfect blip and slot it in 2nd gear. Awesome. I would have a Lotus If the Spyder was PDK only. The GT3 has bought PDK on a bit (I hope) after the 981 cars, but the 987 PDK has a few flaws. We should all do a how fast event in our cars, I have a time posted already which I need to knock some time off. I just sold my M3 DCT which by all accounts is a better box than the early PDK and even that got dull, so I sold that 2 weeks ago for my manual R. But at least the DCT has loads of program's the PDK in auto is very limiting.

I think it's miles faster because it's designed to extract the maximum performance available at any given time. Mash the throttle at 25mph and PDK can kick down in to first gear and I don't drive a manual car like that even when I'm "making progress". Also on a motorway, imagine catching up with a dawdler doing 65 in the outside lane overtaking a truck. When it pulls over, you would just hit the gas in a manual, if annoyed you may drop to 5th and only rarely would you drop to 4th. PDK would probably go down to 2nd and your Mrs would think you were being a tosser. It would be quicker though!

I tend to read the road and I am already in the right gear !! you can catch the early systems out so it would not go to 2nd very quick from 6th as it cannot kick down like that, it also upsets the cars balance as you start to take things for granted and then it's changing gears mid corner, or even worse you start to do that in manual mode. You do lose a lot of driving skill, even after 3 months of DCT I was not as quick in the Spyder at week ends due to loss of driver technique and I guess why people might think PDK is faster. It's faster up the gears and that's it every where else it's slower. But micro switch driving is not what I want from my fun week end car, I don't even like it on my daily car.

Private seller asking dealer money [&o] Fortunately for seller it's a very rare specification and low miles so he has a chance if it ticks all the boxes for someone out there wanting something quite unique [8D]

Not new to the market either - was discussed a couple of pages back. Seven Spyders at the Goodwood Drop Top Sunday Breakfast Club at the weekend - mix of specs, 3 black, 3 white, 1 silver. All looked great, of course!

"Private seller asking dealer money" I don't get the issue, if the private car is a warranty car, then I would be asking dealer money for mine also. Loads of private cars go for more than dealer money as dealers need to move cars off the books after 90 days. If I were to sell my Spyder it would be up at 45k, it's a rare spec and the cars are sort after, it would prob go out the UK. you can ask what you like for rare cars, you either pay and get the spec you want or don't pay and buy what's out there with less spec. that car is also very low miles and will be detailed to a higher spec than a dealers car !!
