Such a great looking car in the perfect colour combo! Yes - my wheels are sprayed over the silver. Apparently it's the same process as the factory finish. Fingers X'd it looks the part!

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Bolton are very good at getting the alignment right - mine has always been perfect and they are the only ones ever to touch the wheels! GeeForce, the car you are buying is completely identical to mine in all aspects (at least until your mods are carried out). With the Bolton connection, it must be the "sister" car that I have previously seen and sat in, the coincidence would otherwise be even more remarkable. Albeit new and unregistered, mine was not a build to order car, I saw it on display in the showroom when my old car was in for service and fell for it there and then! I'm sure that I have posted on here before that when I bought my car, Bolton would not initially release it as they wanted it in the showroom on the evening of the launch of the new Cayenne. On the day in question, my car was proudly on display in the showroom. Or so I thought. The full spec was identical down to the last option. I was slightly annoyed as the car was open and someone was sitting in it! I said to the sales chap that I thought they may have had the courtesy of putting a "SOLD please don't touch" sign on it and he laughed. He told me my car was outside but I didn't believe him! He led me out to the back to actually show me my car and said they decided that didn't want to use mine now I'd bought it and sourced another one! To this day I have no idea which one I really ended up with!
Great news about the wheels & alignment.I've asked them to double check the geo too. [:D] They could well be sisters! THe car was registered in July 2010, so the timing isn't a million miles off. The plate starts MW10 if that helps?

Yep, the Club's annual/national event is combined with Silverstone Classic this year. The Club's annual event is massive, so this combination should really be something. If you can get yourself down there MrDemon that would be good[:)] http://www.porscheclubgb.com/Event/1676.aspx

Sounds right, mine is MJ10... I have been loaned a brand new Cayman. Red, manual, Bose, twin zone climate, heated seats, coloured wheel centres and that's about it. It's nice.

ORIGINAL: MrDemon I find Tipec a bit odd, don,t think I will be going to another one of those events. I,ll leave it at that as not to upset any one lol.
I have attended many TIPEC events and always very welcome as a non member .... [:)]

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Having (just about) decided to keep the car, I will keep it OPC [warranty] as they do look after me at Bolton. As far as the warranty goes, mine has already had a complete new front o/s fan assembly, countless hours of work rectifying a broken fuel gauge and then more work whilst we discovered that the car had secretly been fitted from new with the optional large fuel tank! Whilst the government seems hell bent on destroying my profession, the OPC warranty is a useful plan B - if the car does ever have to go in a "fire sale" it will sell more easily with the warranty. How tragic that I even have to think about that... Incidentally, please feel free to sign the e-petition to save UK Justice! [link]http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/48628[/link]
You did get unlucky with the fuel tank, but now you have the long range advantage. I was nervously watching the fuel gauge as we toured around Wales ad no-one else need fuel as urgently as I[:D] I've had a number of niggles sorted under warranty. I have no idea what they cost. However, BartyB's comments on this thread is the type of mindset that has me undecided about what to do i.e. over the long term, is it worth paying for the warranty or just paying for the repairs. Yes one year you may get 'lucky' and have a £1000 failure that gets your money back (but then we're not hoping for that to be the case!) Maybe i'll extend for 2 years and end it after that. The shakedown of defective components reveals them sooner rather than later as a defective component (e.g. a bad batch in what is otherwise a good component) usually fails much sooner than designed). Or, maybe skip some years and just do the later years when age and wear are more likely to affect reliability? I think you've done right Rob, just saying that for me I dunno...[8|] http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=768211&mpage=1

Rob You have summed it up perfectly! Its NICE! Yes, most Porsche cars are nice! But anyone who owns one will tell you that the Spyder is a little bit special![8D][;)]

ORIGINAL: flat6 At least some of us are exploiting the pulling power of Spyder's looks. Yes, this IS Brian. Well actually, all I know is that he sent me the picture. But then, I see his SKINZ number plate, so it is authenticated[:D] "Spyderman Brian spins his web and captures the girls"[:D] What's the story to go with this one Brian, and please share the secrets of your success[8D]

New Cayman is fantastic. As a daily driver, its faultless. Oozes class and quality. ... But drive it for a day or so and let me know how you feel after jumping back into the Spyder. I did a back to back last week, so interested to hear your comments

ORIGINAL: flat6 Looking forward to a comparison report Rob. Spyder to 981 Cayman, 981 Boxster to 981 Cayman[;)]
Well I did a Cayman versus Cayman report for Porsche Post (which has yet to see the light of day []) but you can read it here ... http://www.arthurlea.com/Stories/Cayman/index.htm

I read John H's report when it first cropped up on the forum. Whilst I don't necessarily agree with him, it is a really great article with some good pictures too. I am completely biased of course but do find it difficult to stomach the Cayman being the only car I can think of where the convertible version is cheaper than the coupe. I will try and feed back more later on. New tyres for the Spyder... £££

ORIGINAL: kitchens Daro911 That is the same car that was advertised on PH last week ..it has been reduced by around £1k .It was advertised some weeks earlier cheaper than his present asking price and then he raised it again . . The market is getting a bit to busy I think people as selling to cheap ...well we would say that wouldn't we trying to keep values up [;)].I understand reasons why people want out of there present cars finance. lease etc IF and only IF i where to contemplate selling it would not start with a 3 in the asking price especially as being possibly one of only a handful of Red ones .
Tonight it has gone again [:D]. So now back down too just 6 on PH Johns first choice the private black/ red buckets has gone too!

For anyone who hasn't read it, it's a good read. Thanks John. Glad to see that your 987's attributes still shone through after driving the newer car, which of course had it's own advantages. Looking forward to my next 981 Cayman drive. Also, Cayman gets my vote over Boxster. A coupe creates a much better cabin environment in lots of different ways (for me) except opening up to the skies, and structural rigidity is maximised (I accept that in the Boxster's case, it's as stiff as roadster needs to be and some say the Spyder might be better than the R due to being not too stiff). I don't see the point of having a folding roof, unless you're going to take the roof off completely and make a better car, like you know what[;)]. The next Spyder should take some of the body away and be open-wheeled too, like the Lotus 340R [8D]
Lotus_340R.jpg
Whilst I like to take the roof off the Spyder and get the wind on my scalp, I wouldn't take that if there was a compromise in performance, like with the 911 cab. I think the 911 cab should be cheaper than the 911 coupe because as a performance car it is heavier and slower[8D]. OK, ok, that doesn't apply to the 981 roadster. But you do get 10bhp extra in the Cayman. Ok, ok, that isn't that much[:D]. But a Coupe is the more optimal set up vs a roadster/cabriolet and Porsche are charging for that, just like if you change the colour of the instrument dials to another colour of the same material[&:] Following that confused logic, maybe they should've charged more for the Spyder than the R[:-] It's Friday - don't take me too seriously guys[;)]
