Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

The sign above the Hardtop says who designed it[:D][:D][:D][;)] If the rear window surround was red it would look like Mick Jagger's Lips [] Edited to load Spyder picture:-

Might get underneath and have a tidy up if weather forecast prediction are correct and the Spyder will be web bound[&o]

Des. The top was made by Speedart but I think it might not be sold any more. Amongst Spyder fans, the looks weren't well received. Also, I think the original price was over £4,000. Coupled with the fact that the mindset of most Spyder buyers is they accept it is roofless (but the rag top doesn't let in rain and you probably don't take the car out in snow), it didn't garner much appeal.

Hey! Update from my side. SO … I went on PHs and contacted 20+ owners from the Spyder registry. About 50% of them don’t have a/c and only about 4 were willing to sell now: - £37.5k '10 white/black with no a/c - £37k '11 with a/c in black with red interior - £40k! '10 high spec white/black - £41k! '11 black/black high spec Also called up a load of OPC’s and most of them tried to sell me a 981, while telling me Spyder roof was silly (can you believe it??). Bolton called me back saying they knew of a car and was from a customer who kept coming in to look at Cayenne’s as he's getting on a bit and didn’t really use car. I gave OPC a target price on the basis the car the car ticked all the boxes and didn’t have more than 15k miles (like the one I missed out on). In the end, they managed to do a good deal on the Cayenne for part ex'ing the Spyder & to meet their new car quota. The result, they offered me the following: 1 owner from new 2010 FPSH White Black interior Manual Bucket Seats Spyder Wheels Climate Control Sports Chrono PSE CDR30 Sound Package Plus Universal Audio Park Assist Bluetooth phone 111 inspection & 2yr warranty & the best bit … …<1800 miles!! The car doesn’t’ have short shift, but they fitting at zero labour cost. Also having 'Spyder' badge centred/fitted & wheels painted black with silver rim. More £££s, but worth it imo. Kind of glad I missed out on the original car now. Picking her up next week! A VERY big thank you for all your advice - you guys are so supportive & enthusiastic! Pictures in due course. Very EXCITED!

I am quite worried that they have sold you my car and intend to clock it. It's going in tomorrow morning too. Hope the loan car is good, I might never see my car again [:D][:D][:D]

Geeforce. Thanks for the info and congrats on getting a great low mileage car! The fact that "most of them" tried to sell you a 981 and the high number of so-called ex-demo 981's for sale (I think daro spotted one OPC with allegedly 6 demo cars!) I think it shows that they are in over-supply (which is a great shame because it's a great car and Porsche will not build buyer confidence by pumping them into the market at a rate the market cannot absorb. It is also interesting that the 981 S is almost reaching down into 987 Spyder budget. If they cross over that'll be something. We of course look forward to the pictures[;)]

All in all, I think I’ve got a car from an OPC at a price (began with a '3') which isn’t far off from buying private + inspection +2yr warranty. Kind of glad I missed out on the original car now. Geeforce very excited to have a new member for the Spyderemen corner of PCGB Look forward to your first reports/pictures and as you have canvassed so many fellow thinkers on PH perhaps you could hurd some our way over here too [;)] No pressure [:D] My local OPC has tried selling me a 981 only this week asking me to come in for an extended test drive and a cracking deal! That says a lot about the current market place refs 981's [] The Spyder roof in actual fact is bloody ingenious not only for how watertight it is (no personal experience) but how user friendly it is to put on and take off once the procedure has sunk into the memory banks

Haha!!! You better enjoy it while you can lol! Thanks again for the kind words from everyone! Just to be 'different', I've (rightly or wrongly) gone for the silver rim (not diamond cut), black spokes ... and black insides. I've actually seen this finish on the Porsche Exclusive catalogue for 987 Boxster/Cayman with Spyder wheels. To my mind, just thought it looked tidier and would look cleaner for longer.

Gee Force Welcome to the Spyders Web ....sounds like a nice spec and the old saying( Whats for you will not go by you ) like yours mine had only 1450 on the clock when i got it in March . As to the wheels i have decided to just keep the factory fit silver for present was going down the black route It is you hard earned £££ so get what you like. The spec is almost the same as mine but with SS and fully warranted till Sept 2015 and the next service due in Sept 2103 included in deal . Enjoy it they are just fab cars and hope the weather gets better to enjoy top down motoring . Look forward to seeing pics but don't ask me to post them up for you [:D][:D][:D] I rely on Flat 6 for that[;)] Brian

I take it you mean silver painted rim as they leave factory and as they are now and then you are having the rest of the wheel black gloss[&o] And a new set of black centre caps with colour crests pointing to the tyre valve via the locking wheel nut unlike this example attached [:D]

Bolton are very good at getting the alignment right - mine has always been perfect and they are the only ones ever to touch the wheels! GeeForce, the car you are buying is completely identical to mine in all aspects (at least until your mods are carried out). With the Bolton connection, it must be the "sister" car that I have previously seen and sat in, the coincidence would otherwise be even more remarkable. Albeit new and unregistered, mine was not a build to order car, I saw it on display in the showroom when my old car was in for service and fell for it there and then! I'm sure that I have posted on here before that when I bought my car, Bolton would not initially release it as they wanted it in the showroom on the evening of the launch of the new Cayenne. On the day in question, my car was proudly on display in the showroom. Or so I thought. The full spec was identical down to the last option. I was slightly annoyed as the car was open and someone was sitting in it! I said to the sales chap that I thought they may have had the courtesy of putting a "SOLD please don't touch" sign on it and he laughed. He told me my car was outside but I didn't believe him! He led me out to the back to actually show me my car and said they decided that didn't want to use mine now I'd bought it and sourced another one! To this day I have no idea which one I really ended up with!

P.S. Although, some may beg to differ regarding worrying about snow!

Sounds a great car Gee Force. Look forward to seeing it. About time we had a Spyder meet, any one down for the Pistonheads Gaydon Jag Sunday service.

Daro911 That is the same car that was advertised on PH last week ..it has been reduced by around £1k .It was advertised some weeks earlier cheaper than his present asking price and then he raised it again . . The market is getting a bit to busy I think people as selling to cheap ...well we would say that wouldn't we trying to keep values up [;)].I understand reasons why people want out of there present cars finance. lease etc IF and only IF i where to contemplate selling it would not start with a 3 in the asking price especially as being possibly one of only a handful of Red ones .

I find Tipec a bit odd, don,t think I will be going to another one of those events. I,ll leave it at that as not to upset any one lol.
