ORIGINAL: Siy Thanks - Spec is White, PDK (am a manual car fanatic, but was happy to go PDK for this car... and am actually pleased I did!)... , sound plus, bucket seats, sports chrono plus, PSE, PCM, Climate, Porsche warranty , Spyder wheels I think I am posting a pic up here... (never sure if it will work or not!)... but it is not yet complete. I have sent the wheels to Chris at Excel, to be powder coated in RS Weiss Gold... the RS2 gold colour... they should be back weds/thurs so will post proper pics then. I came from a Ferrari F430 Spyder - simply awesome. Just fancied a change and been wanting one of these for a couple of years now... and am really pleased I did... before that AMV* Roadster, and prior to that a gen I and Gen II 997 C4S cab. Might be just my imagination - but the Spyder feels fatser than my C4s cabs...?
Very nice and please let me know how the wheels turn out as Chris has quoted me for the very shiny new finish Porsche did offer on the Cayman R's too John owes you a prize for starting page 200 with your pics and she looks very nice indeed. Don't accept any dates with his Spyderwoman friend[:D] One thing you will find a lot slower refs 987 Spyder v F430 SpIder and that is the rate of knots your money won't be leaving your bank account at now[:D] How do you find the PDK compared to the single clutch F430

haha - prizes - for me.... why how lovely!!! You aren't wrong re the costs - I think keeping this Spyder in the garage will be much easier on the wallet! I said that I am a manual fan... I even got the 430 in manual guise! the open gate gera shift was the thing that I grew up dreaming about... and it was even better than I had hoped... truly magnificent.... But this PDK box (yes... I know it should be a manual..!!!!) is great - feels like a rocket! It is a genuinely clever piece of machinery... I had it briefly in my 997.2 but didn't keep that car long enough to exploit it. Only possible downside to PDK is it is easy to get lazy and leave it in auto.... However the big surprise was just how aggressive it is in sports Plus mode - I really think that's a bit too focussed for driving on the road , or at least certainly through towns. Great car so far - just want to get my wheels back and on... then it goes for a detailing. Its only got 3400 miles on it, and no scratches / chips so should polish up nicely. Poppping it into Byfleet OPC (old Camtune) on Friday for a service and brake fluid

hi and welcome. there is a great car meet tonight and I guess 2 Spyders will be at it. http://www.ashbyfolville.com/classic-cars-bikes/ its a massive event and will have 3000+ people easy tonight any one else fancy the trip, it's a great night if you like cars

Interesting Simon, I'm considering going the other way in due course. V8V Roadster also on the radar. Once you've had a chance to put some miles on your Spyder I'd be interested in your thoughts comparing it to the F430. I am wondering whether it would really be worth the increased purchase and running costs in order to tick the Dancing Donkey box.....

That's easy... yes it's worth it - tick the box.... Every time you start it, its a sense of theatre... I will go back, and hope to get into a California after the Spyder...(4ish seats would be useful)... The 430 is just sublime...a smile every time - and sounds incredible. However... as well as the overall higher cost of ownership (to be fair they are pretty bullet proof, but every time you need something it does cost another 50% over Porsche prices), there is an issue... with the 430, you run out of road quickly. It is also a far better car than I am a driver, and as such I never really got to take it to the edge. With the PBS It seems to me on first impression, that this is go-kart like in it's drive, and much more able to get more from it - if that makes sense?

by the way - forget the V8V roadster - awful car! Loks, feels and sounds lovely ... but go and drive one - disappointing! To be fair, mine was the older 4.3l , and the 4.7 is a bit better - but if you like the drive in the Spyder and 430... I don't think the V8V will impress.... each to their own though. Also got some horrible depreciation on that AM, but suppose one expects that!

Many thanks. AM is lowest on the list because, having driven the coupe, it's not that quick, not that reliable, and drinks fuel. However it's another marque I'd like to have owned. I believe that there are a number of ex Caterham and ex Elise owners who've bought Spyders as they've "grown up" (or, at least, got older). It certainly feels similar in terms of feedback, "chuckability", etc but with much more refinement. Overall it's the best package for the price in terms of rarity, looks, performance, residuals and running costs (in my view). I'm also not an amazing driver and find the Spyder about as quick as a road car needs to be. I'm sure that objectively the 430 isn't "worth" the extra costs, but subjectively it probably is just to have done it. Funnily enough I'd spent a fair bit of time watching yours in the Pistonheads classifieds - if I'd known you were after a Spyder maybe we could have done a deal!

it's a small world... and mine was a particularly nice example... took a while to sell, as most people looking for the F1 gearbox. Funny thing is, in the F430, it is very hard to go anywhere unnoticed - heads always turn when out and about in it - I thought this new Spyder would be a little ore stealth - but everyone stops and stares at this too... I love the 'rareness' about it

ORIGINAL: jdpef356 Just been away for a couple of days so some catching up to do. Also noticed we are on Page 199 - Who is going to get the honour to take us to Page 200?[&:] Daro or Flat 6 I would suggest.

ORIGINAL: rob.kellock The edited list now looks like this: So that leaves OPC cars as follows: (all cars should be manual, Spyder alloys and bucket seats unless stated otherwise) Edinburgh - Black - 01/11 - 7k miles - PDK/Carrera Sports - £41850 (ad still there) Swindon - Aqua - 03/10 - 30k miles - PDK/heated seats - £37450 East London - White - 04/10 - 20k miles - PDK - £38980 Byfleet - Silver - 03/10 - 14k miles - heated seats - £36995 Leeds - Black - 07/11 - 10k miles - heated seats - £39890 Pistonheads adds: Shirleys - Black - 2011 - 10k miles - PDK/turbo alloys - £39995 private - White - 2010 - 22k miles - £33900 Yorkshire Classic - White - 2010 - 5k miles - sports seats - £38995 Autotrader adds: Ridgeway - White - 2011 - 7k miles - wheels / "that" interior - £39990 private - Red - 2011 - 5k miles - £37900 Icon - White - 2011 - 7k miles - PDK / seats - £37500 Cameron - White - 2010 - 10k miles - £36990 This gives 12 cars advertised for sale via the most obvious sources. The average used Spyder has an asking price of £38370 with a mileage of 12250. A couple of price reductions for the eagle eyed...
Good man! Your stats indicate a slight increase in average asking price[:)]

Average prices up, average mileage down - not by much though. mrdemon and kitchens seem to have the shiniest ones on the back of those photos but I know that's not the most flattering picture of Rob's car for reflections! Me and you were having the most fun though flat6. [:D]

Were your black wheels factory finish and in good mint condition or did they need a refurb anyway ... If they were mint you could probably have done a switch over with one of the silver spyder wheel guys starting with me :ROFLMAO:

ORIGINAL: MrDemon Is there any way to get infield parking for the Silverstone event, ? I was going to go with a race team, but now my options have run out and now can only get normal tickets. I will ask my OPC Monday see if they can pull any strings, but it seems doubtful now for club infield parking.
Mr D This is the first year The Classic have not sold tickets on the gate - when they did they were around £60.00 for just one day! Advance tickets if purchased early could be as cheap as £18 per day. I don't understand the reasoning behind not selling on the day.[&:] The following post seems to be final http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=775574&mpage=1&key=򽖖 You could try a Wanted on the forum[;)] - with over 1000 cars on the parade lap and probably almost as many in the Club allocated area some will not be able to turn up and will want to unload tickets on the forum.

That's exactly what I was thinking!
