Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: dyllan I think the stripes look brilliant on a white boxster ,Spyder or otherwise ,less so on darker colours .
I agree. I'd personally prefer white if going for decals in more adventurous colours, like: I put the Cayman S decal on my Cayman in silver and really liked it against the red. With the front spoiler tips already in the 'Alu look', I thought it worked quite well. Had to wait weeks for the decal as it was on back order with Porsche. I guess the silver wasn't a popular choice but then it only works on certain colours, and not white.

Like you boys If I had been given the choice of Black decals on my Red Car or Silver I would have gone Silver (because I have silver wheels) If my Car was Red with Black wheels:- Not to keen on Black wheels on the Red cars so I would possibly have the wheels painted silver in preference to changing from the Black decal. Must say your Cayman S looks good at Silverstone Professor[:)]

Am liking the new finish on my alloys, shame it took £100's worth of fuel and 60ish laps of Thruxton to achieve my matt gunmetal finish.

I feel the part of the gang now! That photo was taken on Friday, my friend in the Evora S and I (with partners) headed up to near Melton Mowbray for a weekend of driving some fantastic roads. My first real chance to get to grips with the Spyder and really loved it. It's so easy to drive fast on challenging roads and did well to hang onto the Evora S (with a couple of tweaks and a much better driver than me). Under acceleration they were very well matched, the Spyder gaining a bit as the Evora clonked through the manual box (my Spyder is PDK). I always felt tired after hustling my M3's around all day but the Spyder just consumes challenging roads so comfortably. Monday was spent over at the Porsche Experience Centre, which I'm sure most of you have been to. What great fun that was! I've had a bit of instruction on track before but my instructor on Monday really encouraged me to push my limits as a driver which resulted in a few spins and plenty of tyre smoke! I completely forgot to get a photo but I must say the Spyder parked up at the front of the Centre with GT3 RS's and GT2's etc looked great and a number of the instructors commented on what great cars they were and how nice it was to see one.
The best thing about it is driving it. It's a bonus to have a car that drives as well as it looks[:)] And it manages to look the part alongside the more expensive metal [:)]

Thanks John. That was when the PCGB annual event had one of it's days at PEC before the main day at Cirencester, I think 2011. We then got to do a parade lap on one of Silverstone's small circuits (much bigger than the PEC circuit).

Yeah I agree. This car was calling me when I was looking, but it was outside my budget at the time.

I think you will find that the Glasgow car is the one I own! I purchased it on 14th February 2013 - report on page 62 of the forum. The Spyder was registered on 30 Dec 11 to bolster sales figures for Glasgow PC for year 2011. It did not find an owner until late July in 2012. It was then sold to the first owner with just 50 miles on the clock when he picked it up on 28 July 2012. I quizzed him re the 50 miles and he said thats what was recorded in the book and was on the clock when he collected the car from Glasgow PC so they must have been pretty fussy about letting it out for Test Drives ! The first owner (prior to collection) had the wheels changed for Silver (my preference) I have not seen another with colour coded stitching to the seats. Andy - You said you were put off by the price - do you recall what was being asked?

ORIGINAL: Andy Fagan Interesting older video, Mr Plato didn't like the PDK. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTgXky5ntEo OT: I must say I do prefer the rear diffuser on the Spyder
This weeks show wasnt about liking or disliking it was about which Cayman went quicker manual or pdk but admittedly Plato had to add which was more fun and involving in his opinion [;)]
OK then - this is the final say on PDK[;)] Watch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmrQnvXo7tk Enjoy

Almost has me convinced I must now go PDK [] just to defy the bar steward[:D][:D] Great find and great way to close the debate

the red Glasgow car I nearly bought in December 2011 which I was offered a cracking deal on.at the time I was told it had 49 miles on the clock although never confirmed visually .I actually paid nearly £5k more for my car !

Spyderwhite if you paid circa £5k more what would that have made the asking price on the Glasgow car [&o]
5022779649_84679b44a5_o.jpg

the asking price was £44k but the way the deal worked out with my trade in was I was either getting above private sale price for my trade in or they priced the spyder at about £41-42k for the deal which is what you probably would have paid as a cash buyer.on reflection I am sure Glasgow had 2 red cars at the time, they were showing one in stock early December and when I bought mine another showed up which was supposedly not in stock when I was enquiring early to mid December 2011 and was about £47-48k and may be the car above.because the more I think about the car I was looking at had silver wheels and a vin somewhere along the lines of last 3 digits 876/916 or similar might be completely wrong but it was either an 800 or 900 series.the black car with a red leather interior which sussex had at the time and was registered jan.2012 was up for £52k and wanted to give me £5k less for my trade in compared to other dealers and so would have cost me about £6-7k more than my car or a massive £11-12k more than the Glasgow car.hence I would never deal with sussex again because they love the old an*l r*pe when selling you a car whereas somewhere like Glasgow are pleasure to deal with and give you a good deal.

to follow on from above when the spyder came out for the first year or so it was unloved by the public (me for one)also the press seemed to slate it (top gear/5th gear)and the dealers because it just did not sell hence the fantastic deals to be had, but it would appear that over the last year or so the reverse is true and seems to be becoming a bit of a cult car which is sort of parallel to what happened with the 964rs when it was launched!

Thanks and my how the choice of Spyders available has changed since you were looking to buy[;)] Stumbled on these ads today dated 02/08/12

As to a second Red one being available i cannot comment on that . Brian

Hi John. I forgot it was your car. You did mention that when I first posted it back in March. I can't recall what it was first up at but i'd agree with with Spyderwhite's recollection of £47-48K as that is the kind of price that cars being offered as low mileage ex-demonstrator vehicles were being offered at back in early 2012. The car was around for a long time. I'm sure I saw it subsequently advertised without it's black wheels before it was sold, as if they'd done a swap for someone before it was sold. Anyway, the last I saw it advertised for at Glasgow OPC was £42,850. By this time i'd already bought mine. daro911 and I kept watching the market after I bought mine in Feb 2012. We'd been watching for a couple of months until the right car came up for me. As you can see he has some great records of snapshots of the market stretching back way over a year. Absolutely loads of cars have come and gone. I've only seen 2 Aqua blue cars go through OPC's though. I'd say that has to be the rarest colour apart from Cream White.

Yep the price did drop a couple of times and it was at something like £44,850 after the first drop and then was dropped again. I think back then there were so few people aware of the Spyder that some just wouldn't move. Then the OPC's have a 90 day or whatever timeframe after which they start to drop the price to get it moved. There were some great price low mileage cars by the middle of 2012. The by the end of the year, cars will more mileage were still commanding £40K. Has dipped a little recently but then we couldn't expect it to stay flat.
