great buy at £31k as you could have bought a few extra's for it to bring it up the spec sheet a little, now it's going to be a little more it might seem less of a bargin. Seemed a ok starting point for a Spyder though. new page and all that, now we have a new Cayman R owner joining us, here is a pick of both

lol i want one, not sure i want one that bad Phil
I don't think the Spyder market is that mature. We've witnessed a long running tightening up of supply for some time now and the few cars that go up for sale seem to sell quickly with no real obvious preferences over gearbox, seats or spec generally. I would expect you to be right and there must be owners hanging on for a bit of sunshine before trying to sell their cars but the biggest problem for most owners seems to be how to replace them. Until the 4C came along, there hasn't really been anything to excite at remotely the same budget. Not many Spyder owners seem to have switched to 981 Cayman or Boxster, there is no real enthusiasm for the new GTS model on here or on Pistonheads and many owners came from a background of Lotus or Caterham with nothing new to tempt them back. Perhaps they are all saving up for the rumoured 2.0 diesel Macan []
You're right Rob. Maybe when Porsche sees how the GTS is received (good or bad or indifferent) and if they are reading what you've said, they might just see an opportunity for a 981 Spyder. As the market has woken up to the 987 version, the sales may not be as sluggish next time around. Porsche did launch it without any production limits, so maybe that it an indication of where they want to take the Boxster Cayman i.e. Spyder and R not just a short lived run-out special. With the GTS coming so soon in what I guess is going to be quite a long product cycle (given that the 981 is totally new - I think daro estimated 7 years product cycle), the GTS can't be the end of the story, can it?ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Until the 4C came along, there hasn't really been anything to excite at remotely the same budget. Just seen pictures of the Top 555 car that is coming to market. Looks nice but no bucket seats ..Also priced at £42,950 (seems a little bit steep maybe :/ Maybe its the "coming into summer factor" Phil
Hi Phil The last 2 winters saw more cars come to market and sell quicker than summer. If the amount of cars that we've seen come and go since December, had stuck around as long as cars in summer, we'd be well into double figures on sale right now. It's quite strange but I think like yourself, trying to find the right car, people will buy all year round i.e pounce whenever the right car comes up. It's not really a summer car as such, it's more of a specialist car. Yes its for summer use, but because of the roof, I don't think it tends to be bought by those on a sunny weather whim who want a roof that goes up and down easily. As for the sellers I think they come up all year round as people's finance deals come to an end on cars bought 3 years ago etc. As for the prices going up, they'd been heading one way all year and sellers are getting wiser to all the chatter on here and PH as people are keenly trying to find a car to buy. With so few cars on the market it makes sense for any seller to test the waters and try a slightly higher price. Someone who wants their particular spec really doesn't have much choice.
What's the mileage: Age: Spec: can't see it on http://www.top555.co.uk/pages/top555_stock.htm?make=31[&o]ORIGINAL: philnotts99 priced at £42,950 (seems a little bit steep maybe :/ Maybe its the "coming into summer factor" Phil

I was quite keen on the 4C after looking at a prototype at Goodwood a couple of years ago, unfortunately the engine/gearbox (and lights) has put me off. Still a good looking car but personally I don't want a 4-pot as a weekender. I can see why they've sold though. I'm a serial car changer but so far I have no desire to sell the Spyder, at this price point there is nothing else that does it for me and even though I guess I could stretch to an F430 or similar at the moment I don't see the point in doubling my budget for way less than double the car. My son has been interviewing at Uni's over the last month to get onto an automotive design course and has been doing a lot of sketching to build up his portfolio. One of the pieces he's working on at the moment is a 981 Spyder design, I'll post up a picture when he's done!ORIGINAL: flat6You're right Rob. Look forward to seeing that and hopefully a more user friendly folding soft top arrangement [ The 430 SpIder is a great piece of kit but it is far too big and heavy to do what the SpYder can on our UK tarmac and apart from doubling the budget there is probably trebling the running costs if no repairs pop up[] ]/color]ORIGINAL: Big E I'm a serial car changer but so far I have no desire to sell the Spyder, at this price point there is nothing else that does it for me and even though I guess I could stretch to an F430 or similar at the moment I don't see the point in doubling my budget for way less than double the car. That's a strong price but given what else is available perhaps that's where these have got to now? Good guys at Top555 too. Let's hope all these £40k+ cars sell soon!ORIGINAL: philnotts99 Top 555 Spyder http://www.dealers.motortrak.com/detail?template=/top555/hitlistdetail&vid=20223155&make=31&make=31&dealer=12552&orderby=price_desc&lang=en&country2=GB&vids=20035668,20188831,19985687,20223155,20163511&vidindex=3
That is very strong money indeed ... If it sells within the next 6 weeks then I think Spyders have turned a notch up and then some [8D]ORIGINAL: billy1That's a strong price but given what else is available perhaps that's where these have got to now? I can well believe it. But, with only 2 OPC cars today, both above £40k, where else would they pitch it? Looking at the prices of 981S cars at OPCs, the premium is all the more remarkable. There are sub 5k miles cars out there for less that will have cost a lot more new.
Noticed that the OPC CR's have gone up in the asking prices as well. Seem to be between £40-£45k, and with a 25k mile car at nearly £44k [8D]
