Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: flat6 :ROFLMAO: It shows that your reasons for wanting a 981 haven't changed. We should expect to see you in one when the time is right[;)]
The time will be right when there are a good selection of ex DV 981 GTS begging for a new home and also when Rob's Spyder can be purchased for forty thousand something £'s

ORIGINAL: MrDemon I also had a late model m3 v8 competition and it was quite dull :-( only kept it 2 months. and while it looked the part in the pearl white, every carbon extra and the CSL wheels, it never excited. exciting cars are very hard to find. the CSL was a hoot though and I sold that to quick :-(

Agreed about the V8 M3. I stuck with mine for a while as they were daily drivers and good for a comfortable cruiser with a bit of power when you wanted it. I should have bought a CSL, even had someone looking out for one for me but never saw the right one. Next time I looked the prices had rocketed! A great car and very much a "less is more" car like the Spyder, probably more so than the Spyder.

As MrD says, exciting cars are hard to find! I would be surprised if my next car is a 981. If the £40k+ Spyders all sell quickly I don't know what I'd do. I've always said my Spyder was bought as a keeper and is the perfect second car for me. I am fed up with it sitting in the garage though. That is more a fault of the weather though, not the car. I think I just need it to stop raining so I can go for an enjoyable drive with the roof down.

ORIGINAL: Big E Isn't it interesting how many reviews you read of cars (professional and personal) where a new model is described as "technically better", "more refined"and having more toys but just not as exciting as the outgoing model. I had this with M3's, I had a 2005 M3 CS and moved to a 2009 V8, then 2012 V8 M3. The newer cars were certainly more refined and the figures showed they were faster but there wasn't so much thrill or feedback in driving the thing. That's why I ended up with a Spyder, I was originally looking at C2 GTS's but then I drove a Spyder and it was just what I was looking for, something that's a bit of an event to drive. The 981's are very impressive but the same things can be said, "technically better", "more refined" and has a nice roof, nice but slightly synthetic sound with the PSE. For a weekend car I don't want refined, luxurious or a car that on paper has impressive technical ability, I want a car that I am excited to get in and drive and when I get my foot down I can feel what the car is doing. That's why I do think the Spyder will be a future classic (to some extent), just like the other analogue cars whose values are rising, CSL, GT3, 360 CS.
I know what you mean. There are some cars that when they are replaced, they are not quite superceded in terms of their strongest attributes, even if they are technically superceded. The dilemma with thinking about cars and their future classic status is that if you're in the car early, it may only be after hindsight of driving other cars that you fully appreciate what you had. I guess you sell a car when keeping it doesn't provide as much enjoyment as the enjoyment of trying something new, even if that 'something new' is unlikely to be superior in every way to the current car. In and ideal world i'd like to keep the Spyder and run my other wants and desires alongside it, swapping those cars in an out whilst keeping the Spyder. From an investment point of view, if it is worth £50K in 20 years time, I dread to think what it would have cost to keep it running for that long, thinking about Rob's looming costs above. I guess the trick to car investments is buying at the right time and it's probably not the first, second or third owner that typically makes a killing when the prices start to shoot up as they've moved onto enjoying all sorts of other things that have have taken their fancy. I think if I let my Spyder go to scratch some other itches, I may come back and i'd want to try a different flavour to what I had. I think it would be: Guards Red Bucket seats PDK with SC Black Spyder wheels Parking sensors (I really miss those) Full leather again.

Rob if you are frustrated by the Spyder being garage locked due to this unbelievable weather and are busting for a topless drive again imagine the same scenario when the jet stream finally b*ggers off elsewhere and you go to your garage for that topless blast only to recall you sold the keeper for a handful of gold dust [] Keep the faith hang in there and if you are seriously bored go give the car an early Spring 2014 clean back to show standards

You are right. I had the opportunity on Monday too when my trial cracked and the sun was shining. Thought i ought to come straight to the office as lots to do. Missed opportunity that would have done me good!

Surprised to see Bramley dealing in a Spyder again as the last one they had was in stock for sale for about a year[]

[/quote] That picture has got me thinking again about my wheels . Black or stay Silver at least the insides would be cleaner that those in the post and would go for Black nuts [;)]

ORIGINAL: DarrellWilson I can't work out why the car at Sutherland cars (autotrader) priced at £37,990 hasn't sold. Good spec with lots of extras, only 12k miles, has the rare & expensive PCCB, buckets and PSE, granted it hasn't got Spyder wheels and it's black but looks good value to me. I'd be tempted if I was still in the market.
I often wondered if the maintenance on PCCB was prohibitive. Certainly if discs and pads were renewed as often as standard ones the cost would be off putting, I imagine.

ORIGINAL: philnotts99 If you are getting bored with the Spyder, i'm happy to take them off your hands :) White Buckets PSE Rest is a bonus! Phil
The thing is we are all tempted to sell, but there is nothing good to buy, hence we all look but would all regret it. Catch 22, I love buying good cars, but I don't really like any thing this side of 70k and for a toy that's out the question. I have taken to buying watches instead these winter months. My Spyders a garage queen which is a massive shame, but while it's going up why sell it ? Who knows this time next year sub 10k mile cars could be 50k , now Walter has been noted as buying one over any of the new tat, sales and prices have gone up and up. Even if was a miss quote, the Spyder has been a late success. The Alfa will all sell out no issue, but it's no match for a Spyder owner.

More fresh stock at the southern Spyder sellers of 2014 [:D] 911V Any ideas why an October 2010 car is on a "10" plate[&o] http://www.911virgin.com/porscheforsale/814/BoxsterSpyder(Generation2)/

More stock! I bet some of these aren't even trade-ins but a number of people shrewdly seeing this window of opportunity to bail out if it's coming close to the time for them to splash out on a new toy. Trouble is, if too many people jump on the band wagon at the same time, prices might fall a little as cars start to hang around a bit longer as buyers get spoilt for choice. Lets hope they all keep selling within weeks of going to market.
