Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

911V have an 11k mile Spyder for just £1045 more than the new to market 31k mile example both on Pistonheads today So for the Spydermen who have clocked up the miles the price to pay at sale time isn't too heavy at all[&o] http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/boxster-987-05-12/porsche-boxster-987-gen-ii-spyder-2010/2077376?isexperiment=true http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/boxster-987-05-12/porsche-boxster-3-4-spyder-2dr-rare-car-just-serviced-and-tyres/2100235?isexperiment=true

the longer time goes on, the more cars with chairs will be stuck with no buyers. my car would go up for 40k the last car like mind sold for 40k. the 911 V car is worth 31k the price the private seller failed to get. I know its a broken record, but it was all there to see pain as day. the only car for sale with buckets to day is 46k SOR from some dreamer who forgot people ant 3 pedals in this car.

Amazing that the buyer of the car like yours paid £2k more than the asking price! Plenty of cars with sports seats have sold. Plenty of PDK cars have sold. In fact one of the cars that hang around the longest with no interest was the car like yours.....

Ignoring the rest of your usual drum beating for buckets and stick shifts

the private seller was offered the asking price by a private buyer but he chose to let 911V have the car instead .... should the man making the private offer wish to enlighten you further to back my statement up is naturally his call [;)]

How long ago was that? I bought mine in December, it had been previously advertised in September but the seller took it off the market as they had a change of heart. I was watching the market and no others in this spec came up hence why I went on the front foot and contacted the owner, lucky for me I persuaded them to let go of it. If you're going back before Sept last year I think we all know the market has firmed up on these cars, there was a sudden spike in demand after the Evo article on future classics featured the Spyder.

Forget the mythical 981 Spyder - swap the numbers around - what you want is the 918 Spyder[:)] Porsche has put together this playlist of their 918 Spyder videos. Emphasises how spectacular this car is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uvXQs8oi_M&index=2&list=PLKduzfEGbn-G_KfDmflr2RYZHVzYUoUgo The onboard footage looks effortless, with no roll. 1280Nm, 0 to 100km/h in 2.6 seconds, 0 to 200km/h 7.2s. Yet the thing looks so driveable. Maybe that's the secret to its Nurburgring 6:57 lap time. And those batteries must have an amazing power to weight ratio; not just there to play the green card.

I am that man !![;)][;)] I contacted the seller after a few posts on PH drew my attention to it being up for sale ,as most know i already have a stunning Red one with all the right boxes ticked IMOP[;)] I contacted the seller and made an offer on the car below his original asking price he informed me that V911 had agreed to match his asking price and possibly more on seeing the car . I said i would match it but on the understanding it had to go to the OPC to get the rev ranges checked as i planned to get its major service done and put on another years warranty for peace of mind . This would have cost in the region of around £1800 so the car would have stood me close to £33K . I left it over the weekend and contacted the seller to be told and i quote his words ( It had been sold to those nice people at V911 for a price he could not refuse ) I understand they where the first to show interest in the car and the guy a business man was happy to do the deal with them may be less hassle who know's . I was a bit confused as to why one would sell to a dealer knowing he was going to make a nice profit out of the deal when a private buyer was in the wings wanting to buy it .I understand PROFIT is not a dirty word also being a business man , but it would stick in my craw . The deal was done and i moved on . I would have kept both and split the usage keeping both mileages down . In the long term i would possible sell one at some stage as TWO Spyder is pure indulgence [;)] Some would say you cannot have enough Porsches [:D][:D]. Hope this clears up any confusion

Four months is quite a long time - OPCs have been able to sell Spyders without even advertising them! Despite Mr D's cries to the contrary, the market for a car with no radio and PCCBs is actually quite small and that car did sit around for some time not selling - and certainly took longer to sell than sports seated cars or PDK cars. As to whether the market has firmed up since then, I'm not sure. Certainly they can ask £46k for a car on SOR but whether they get it or not is another matter.

Think you missed the point, it didn't sit around for four months it was withdrawn from the market before I persuaded them to sell. I'm in the camp that supports the theory that even if the market for the car with the lightweight spec is 'small', given it's what the Spyder concept was all about these will eventually command higher prices than the fully loaded versions (which no doubt will still be desirable) as there's a lot fewer around. Anyway let's stop speculating, let's just wait and see.

Good point

I reckon any Spyder with a unique spec may be able to command a premium, because even if there is only one or two buyers out there who want that spec, they have only one or two cars to choose from. However, such cars are so few and far between and I don't think they are going to influence the market whereby all other Spyders are worth peanuts. Every other spyder seems to be worth about the same. Buckets aren't rare. For me, it'd have to be a car with the FULL stripped out launch spec to command premium. No radio and no AC is rare. Lairy colour combos are rare. Although, if I was negotiating on a launch spec Spyder, i'd be pointing out how low spec it is and try to get it for a low ball price[;)]. Unlike the lairy colour combos, you could probably get close to a launch spec Spyder by pulling bits out and fitting the blanking parts. Is it possible to remove air con and swap to the base spec blower controller on the dash? I don't know. Removing the radio and fitting the storage bin must be easy. Modifying a car to a rare colour combo wouldn't be ecomonically viable for sure? It also depends how many people buy into the hype of how much faster the car goes without radio or AC. If that hype doesn't build, neither will the value. I don't know, time will tell. Still, I think the majority of Spyders are all the same and its the majority that are defining the rising values that we're seeing. There's nothing about the £46K car that stands it out as rare. In the past I asked an OPC about SOR and they said they stopped it years ago because owners tended to ask unrealistic prices and it just became a hassle trying to make it work. If it gets £42-43K like the other OPC car it's just another confirmation of what Spyders are generally worth.

P.S. If you were an investor and had to choose between sinking your money into that Riviera Blue Spyder or a launch spec Spyder with a view to making a quick profit, which would you choose[;)] There's no right or wrong answer, just want to gather opinions [:)]

The Blue Spyder, but if i'm honest it would only be because i love the colour combo. Does anyone know how many Blue Spyders there are?

[:D] The Riviera (or Mexico?) Blue Spyder was PTS and it's the only one to have appeared on the interweb. PTS was available for a while but not throughout. Was PTS only available in the US?
