Mines in there and I looked at the 101 mile one long and hard. He would only come down to 42k with remainder of 2year warranty. I bought under 40k with 2.5 years warranty. Saw it around 39k before it disappeared which makes me think I should have pushed harder. Would have been nice to drive away with 101 miles and nearly a 20k saving on list!!

Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Had a friend of a friend following this car for almost a year! I think it started life at £49995 and finally sold at the then correct market price of £39500 It was always priced at or above OPC asking prices with the attraction of 100 miles usage only I would guess it must have been an SOR deal hence taking so long for the seller to come to terms with his hit for under a 100 miles pleasure! or in this case not [&o]ORIGINAL: VvrooomM Mines in there and I looked at the 101 mile one long and hard. Vroom I think you did good to get them down to 42k at that time but they must be kicking themselves for not accepting [] I didn't get to do much negotiating. 1st car I was told was sold to a collector abroad before I my scheduled visit. Oh well 2nd car was sold before the ad was taken down. 3rd car was actually a car that an OPC tried to source for me from a many-multi-car owner they were aware of that thought might want to sell. The owner must've smelt the coffee as the car was never freed. Increased my budget and went after some more expensive cars i'd previously seen advertised that were still on sale. All sold. Then I looked back for the ad for what became mine and it was gone. Then it came back. Previous buyer had fallen through. Negotiated a price and paid a deposit without seeing it and the rest is history[] Meanwhile, we're back to 4. The mega-spec car at Glasgow didn't hang around. Flat6 Interesting to hear how your search for a Spyder finally panned out My search started in January 2011 after a 911 GTS session at PEC Silverstone ended and my instructor for the session confessed his favourite Porsche after the GT3 had to be the Spyder! With this still ringing in my head and the itch to get my 6th Boxster scratched I headed home via OPC Silverstone who had a very basic 3k miler for sale. A test drive was granted but it had to be short because the car was all but sold. 5 miles in literally back to back with my GTS session confirmed it had to be a Spyder for me The Silverstone car sold the next day and my search was well and truly on. This would be my first ever used Porsche as depreciation at that time was more than even I could stomach [] and in my mind the Spyder would always be a hard sell whilst cars were popping up in far too great numbers for what the market needed something I had witnessed during my 14 years ownership of an 89 Speedster Whilst the cars today don't sell any quicker the prices have stabilised and the choice has drastically shrunk. The next few years could be very interesting times as austerity and over supply will no doubt dent 981 residuals accordingly [&o] but how will the few Spyders hold up even if they aren't PTS[]
He said the owner traded it for something more exotic but who knows the truth, fantastic choice of cars - the Spyder was one of the cheapest!! The lack of warranty put me off really, it had about 9 months left whereas mine had the third year bought, opc added a year and it had 5 months remaining so 2y5m against 9m. 5.5k against 101 miles 60 plate against 11 plate - didn't stack up at £39500 against £42000ORIGINAL: flat6Vroom I think you did good to get them down to 42k at that time but they must be kicking themselves for not accepting [] I didn't get to do much negotiating. 1st car I was told was sold to a collector abroad before I my scheduled visit. One used car I noticed came back on sale after a couple of months and 2k more miles. I enquired what that was all about. I was told that the owner had always wanted a GT2 and his dream car came up so he traded back the Spyder. I guess some people with much bigger budgets were attracted to the Spyder. Daro911 you make a good point. Of the ~230 Spyders Porsche allocated to the UK it was far too many for the UK demographic. Vroom. I reckon a lot of cars were spec'd by OPC's and PCGB under their allocation and many opted sports seats as a more user friendly option for sale. I prefer the buckets as they are more in tune with the design ethos of the car and are very comfortable imho, but I had to have sports seats for the child seat prep. I'd like to swap buckets when my son is older but the cost will make me just settle for what I got even if I can afford it[]ORIGINAL: VvrooomM He said the owner traded it for something more exotic but who knows the truth Pistonheads classifieds - a couple at OPC with ceramics but sports leather seats and cruise control. Who the bejezzers spec'd them?
Exactly - I always hoped they'd give up at 100 cars - prices were in free fall by early 2011! They seem to have stabilised a bit now thank goodness. Not Spyder weather this weekend though gents, mine had stayed tucked up am afraid.

Luckily over the last week the snow has been quite thin around my way. I had to venture out and got caught in it a couple of times.
But today we have 3 inches or more so there's no way the Spyder is going out in that as it would surely have to be abandoned at the bottom of our road on my return as the summer tyres will never get it back up the hill. I doubt even snow tyres will get a RWD up the hill once this snow is packed into ice, so I won't be investing in those. So, i'm finished until the snow clears[X(] Will have to re-ignite those thoughts of getting a second car if the gamble continues not to pay off. A nice C4 should do it[] I guess it'll be a few more weeks before we hit the EVO triangle Rob[]
flat6 I hope this is some sort of photo shopped joke picture [] As if you should need reminding [&:] that is a "suncap" not "snowcap"ORIGINAL: flat6 Luckily over the last week the snow has been quite thin around my way. [] Unfortunately not a photo-shopped pic[] My interpretation was that the suncap combines with the [All] Weather Protector to tackle all other weather[] But still, I wouldn't want 3 inches of snow loaded up on that roof, not even 1 inch. It's now tucked away in the garage and saw no more than that sprinkling which is fine.ORIGINAL: daro911flat6 I hope this is some sort of photo shopped joke picture [] As if you should need reminding [&:] that is a "suncap" not "snowcap"ORIGINAL: flat6 Luckily over the last week the snow has been quite thin around my way. It would be fine I'm sure. A pinnacle of German engineering! Was thinking about our potential trip this weekend when the radio announced closed roads around Llangollen...
I wonder how many of these will find homes before the over-supply takes it's toll on 981 residuals, if it hasn't already.ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Exactly - I always hoped they'd give up at 100 cars - prices were in free fall by early 2011! They seem to have stabilised a bit now thank goodness.
What is it about Spyders and snow. It snows and they sell, the sun comes out and they stick around for longer [] We're back to 2. It could t be mileage holding these ones back as they were around before the other 3 that have come and gone. Mine is on 11K now but I suppose when they're up for sale, that may be viewed as fairly high for this sort of car?
Mine is at 13500. Chap on Pistonheads has now done over 50000 in his! The average Spyder does many fewer miles than most new cars for sure.
981's are already much cheaper than was the case when 987's were new it seems . When I bought the cayman new the ex demo and nearly new cayman and boxsters were about 5 k below list and now the vast majority are a good 10-15 k less than new price presume due to financial troubles out there!! As for residuals and spyders I imagine as usual with low volume Porsche like 993c4s the ones with low mileage will keep their value high and those used and enjoyed will be much less sought after - just the nature of collectors who want low mileage cars to invest in
They look like they are being taken of to be buried alive! Currently on the OPC Used Car Gizmo there are 125 for sale so 2 Spyders is very encouraging news for anyone daring to be different in 2013 [] The Spyder maybe many different things to different folk but common as muck certainly isn't one of them []ORIGINAL: flat6 I wonder how many of these will find homes before the over-supply takes it's toll on 981 residuals, if it hasn't already.http://www.planet-9.com/news-items/68505-welcome-future-new-981-boxster-s-spain.html
Mmm... So, my OPC has phoned me up to remind me that my Spyder is nearly 3 years old and check did I enjoy the 981 experience at Silverstone last year? A nice new 981 Boxster S could be built to my spec - Spyder spec if needs be with bucket seats, sports suspension and body coloured painted trim inside. It would be like a Spyder but with a proper roof, just as quick when you need it to be but more refined and usable on the motorway. I'd never miss 5bhp and whats a few kilos between friends? The roof goes up and down in 9 seconds at speeds of up to almost 40mph!! What's not to like? I asked my wife for her views (very polite of me I thought) and her subtle response was to arrange a kitchen planner to come and visit us and give a quote for a new kitchen...
