I knew that one. Wasn't really bothered by all the paper stats. Still no idea now what the 0-60 is or the top speed. Although do know it will be 5-something and 160-something. Fast enough. Already owned a Boxster in the past so knew roughly what it would drive like. Bought it on the looks and colour mostly.

Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Time for a FRIENDLY debate Spydermen We have had the wrong chairs wheels gears debate forever and a day so my question is simply this:- How many Spyders would have been sold had Porsche gone the 997 Speedster route and offered just one specification and 3 colours White/Black/Red So the 987 Spyder would have been the base car with only performance options offered at extra cost PSE: Sports Chrono: PCCB UK sales were 237 cars according to an email I have from PCGB although 4 years later there are under 200 cars listed on the How Many Left! I would guess had their been one back to basics spec only as per Mr D's dream machine, sales may have been in the low teens (ignoring 34 forced registered demo cars) and residuals today would be another debate for another day[]
5 Spyders at Prescott Hillclimb this morning. Photos to follow. Someone might beat me to it as I will have to remind myself of the process.

Daro911 I have emailed to some pictures if you are able to load them on as you know my IT s kills are very limited, still much cleaning work to be done Thanks Kenny SpiderORIGINAL: daro911Congratulations Kenny great choice and look forward to hearing your views on the F1 single clutch V the PDK twin. Plus of course the pros and cons of Spyder vSpider SpIder pictures welcome on here too[]ORIGINAL: kenneth ritchie So I am now Spyderless which is sad as they are fantastic cars and I enjoyed every minute with mine and my last three 911's. However, I am now a Spiderman of a slightly different breed, I have achieved my ambition of the last 30 years by finally scratching the Ferrari itch and becoming the owner yesterday of an immaculate condition Ferrari F430 Spider (F1), Rosso Red and Cream interior. Spent all day today getting it up to my usual standard. For the time being I am very pleased. Kenny Spyder, or should it now be Kenny SPIDER
I guess it depends whether you fall into the camp that it is predominantly a road car or whether it is a road and track car. It doesn't have an engine designed for track use. The manual says not to put sticky tyres on otherwise the cornering forces may starve the engine of oil. All that business about not enough oil scavenger pumps. Porsche didn't publish a Nurburgring lap time for it, which is usually part of their marketing machine for track focussed cars. So, for me, predominantly it's a road car. Personally I wouldn't be bothered about air conditioning and heated seats, though these do seem to be attractive to some and therefore a consideration for re-sale. I think the bucket seats are very comfortable and may not have put too many people off. So if the car was only available with buckets, manual, no radio with options of only PSE, Sport Chrono and PCCB how would it have sold. Hmmm. That's a tough one, so I will merely speculate (a little jovially, so don't take me too seriously). The car didn't sell well with all the options flexibility that it had. Many people who were interested decided they could not live without a motorised roof. Where were all the people man enough to buy a car with a manual roof and the spec you describe? They didn't put their hand in their pocket and buy one. Those with money didn't want a manual roof and those who wanted one weren't willing to stump up the cash and instead waited until they hit the used market. Dealers often had to spec their own allocations. If it wasn't for them you'd probably have very few cars with buckets because the private buyers spec'd sports seats[8D], well, some of them would have[]. I guess some dealers spec'd sports seats and turbo II wheels in order make the car a bit more 'familiar' to their typical Boxster clientele. But ultimately the car didn't reach notoriety until the used car buyers got hold of it. I think we only have a couple of Spydermen among us who bought one new, Rob Kellock being one and I can't remember who the other(s) is. So I reckon Porsche would have sold less than 200 in the UK if the car's spec was restricted, which is a shame really as the car is a great ambassador for the design ethos it follows and should have been recognised as a great driver's car with minimum spec. We did run a poll a few hundred pages back about what people would spec on their car if they could only pick 5 options. If I was to reduce that to 3, it would be leather, Sport Chrono and the third would either be PDK or PCCB. Not sure which! If we get a 981 Spyder I think we only have the used car buyers to thank for how they've raised the profile of the car. I don't see much incentive in Porsche doing it again solely from how the new Spyder sales sluggishly kicked off. But that was partly their fault for keeping the Boxster and Cayman in the shadow of the 911 and aiming it at primarily a certain type of buyer and then expecting the existing new car Boxster buyer to get this raw version. Let's see how many 981 GTS get spec'd lightly when we see them on the used market. I expect you'll struggle to find one with buckets, manual 'box and the passive sports chassis (though to be fair it wasn't marketed in that way).ORIGINAL: daro911 Time for a FRIENDLY debate Spydermen We have had the wrong chairs wheels gears debate forever and a day so my question is simply this:- How many Spyders would have been sold had Porsche gone the 997 Speedster route and offered just one specification and 3 colours White/Black/Red So the 987 Spyder would have been the base car with only performance options offered at extra cost PSE: Sports Chrono: PCCB UK sales were 237 cars according to an email I have from PCGB although 4 years later there are under 200 cars listed on the How Many Left! 5 Spyder at the hill climb shows what the car is made for. Enthusiasts who want a competitive car at the week ends and fun car every where else. The rest of the fat options are for the over 50.'s , if it were PDK only I would have bought a Exige 260cup. Clearly two types of owners who will never see eye to eye. So why keep bringing it up ?
