only the gen 2 RS car and they have jumped up to 125k all of a sudden, all other RS have the same stupid long ratio's you can fit a shorter final drive unit though which imo would feel great and much more responsive, but of course less top speed, if that was ever an issue at 180mph ....ORIGINAL: spyderwhite its all about emisions even the gear ratios in the 987 are imho also too tall!is it true that the gt3 rs has shorter ratios? so if i was buying a new porsche means i have to learn to like pdk

For the benefit of the database, I have the very lovely heated sports seats. And before anyone says differently, they won't make you feel any less of a man as you tackle Pfantzgarten or Eau Rouge, but they make a hell of a difference around Betwys-y-coed on a Sunday morning at around 5am (which is the best time of the day to be in North Wales)! What a load of old bollox. Why buy a car, soft top or not, but not use it in the snow or rain? That's just stupid. Can't understand why anyone would SORN a Spyder in the winter either. Mine goes out in all weathers and if not raining the roof is off. I even did doughnuts in the snow last year - it's only a car, I'm not precious. Some of you take these cars far far too seriously! For the record, I like the look of the buckets but that's all - I'd never want a car with them be it a Spyder or a GT3.ORIGINAL: Rocket ManHeated seats in a soft top car that usualy goes out in hot sunny weather and will never see snow. I just dont get thatORIGINAL: tyinsky To me (and many others) the heated sports seats are the preferred option. Couldn't have bought one with buckets. Also prefer the way they look in a Boxster.
Have to agree with the weather thing. Mechnically it is as tough as any other Boxster. The roof keeps the weather out too. Had mine out in the snow and there were no surprises. It's an outdoor machine and can be cleaned. Enjoyed doing lots of miles in mine. Personally I chose to drive mine a lot rather than savour its future value and it cost me less in depreciation than to run a second car. I do intend to run the next car as a second car though and enjoy a happy medium but I will enjoy/drive it a lot. The Spyder is a special car and is currently enjoying a strong demand in the market. I see that as an opportunity to drive a brilliant car and not lose much money should you sell it, or if you don't sell it, you have a brilliant car that is looking pretty timeless too. But as I have said a few times before, what makes a car worth lots as classic comes down to a number of things, some of which isn't logical but generates desire amongst collectors. One of which, for a Porsche, is it a 911 or not. Another for a Porsche is, is it based on a race car (e.g. the 924 Carrera GT is doing well as a non-911, highly desireable Porsche but it was a race car). Will Boxster badge snobbery prevail and prevent the 987 Spyder from becoming highly collectable? I certainly think that isn't helped by Spyder owners removing the Boxster badge which reminds every one else that they are uncomfortable with the association with the Boxster. Interestingly, Cayman R values are also remaining very strong despite no unique bodywork and look to be just as safe a place to linger your cash. And that is taking into account that aside from the R badge, the 981Cayman GTS could supercede it in every way. Whereas, the Boxster GTS doesn't supercede the Spyder look. But there are quite a few Spyder owners selling up at the moment and not necessarily for another Porsche, so it's not necessarily about what the 981 product plans have in store to overshadow the 987 Spyder. Some are moving on to other evocative looking open top cars. Are they taking advantage of the window of euphoria by selling up, or are they missing out on a few more £ thousands in a couple of years...
Thanks for the update. Good to hear you get out enjoying yours[]ORIGINAL: Matt_Hole For the benefit of the database, I have the very lovely heated sports seats. I run mine all year also, not that is gets used much over winter but there are nice days I guess it depends what other cars you own, and hence why I bought its sister but with a hard top. perfect 2 the buckets are warm and you sit in them so they protect you from the wind, it's your hands and the back of your neck which gets cold not your bum or back !!! as most cars are used in the summer, the sports seats don't work as they are leather and get too hot to sit on if left in the sun, so the heats the issue not the cold and AC is NOT going to cool down those leather seats. so it renders AC and heated seats both pointless weight add ons this car being a coupe I have never used AC in the R yet in 14 months either !
Luckily I didn't spec a new one as I suspect I would of gone for those wheels without realising what I was doing. They were a favourite of mine - and I do think they look good on the car. But I love the black spyder wheels on mine (and the silver ones on others). Blame the configurator!
For the record I run as a Spyder because I think the full monty looks like far too many words/letters in that small area and a bugg*r to clean around too. All my other Boxster references on the car remain proudly intactORIGINAL: flat6 Will Boxster badge snobbery prevail and prevent the 987 Spyder from becoming highly collectable? You are lucky enough Not to suffer from low back problems I take it ? Or else you would know that in All weathers the heated seats are a huge boon []ORIGINAL: MrDemon I run mine all year also, not that is gets used much over winter but there are nice days I guess it depends what other cars you own, and hence why I bought its sister but with a hard top. perfect 2 the buckets are warm and you sit in them so they protect you from the wind, it's your hands and the back of your neck which gets cold not your bum or back !!! as most car are used in the summer, the sports seats don't work as they are leather and get too hot to sit on in left, so the heats the issue not the cold and AC is NOT going to cool down those leather seats. so it renders AC and heated seats both pointless weight add ons this car being a coupe I have never used AC in the R yet in 14 months either !
Unfortunately I do suffer and can confirm the old wives tale about heated seats relieving the discomfort on a backache day are all true much to my surprise and on occasions great relief[]ORIGINAL: dyllan You are lucky enough Not to suffer from low back problems I take it ? Surely there is more to sports seats than medicinal purposes through the heaters[] The wings that support your shoulders are just as wide as the buckets, so they support the upper body just as much. The buckets give more support around the hips, having higher sides, so they fix the lower body in place really well.
