Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

If I lived in Florida maybe I would think that too. Mine will be used all year round in the UK. Roof on or off on an early morning drive they are a nice luxury to have.

Not sure if it was highlighted here or on one of the three Spyder threads currently running on Pistonheads, that car was sold earlier in the year at 911 Virgins for a fair bit less money. I remember seeing it as the wheels are an unusual choice. Then the Top555 car that was sild for £36k at an OPC before they sold it again 8-weeks or so later in the £-forties. There really is demand for these cars in silly season 2014. Do people think it will continue or is it just a blip?

ORIGINAL: Rocket Man Heated seats in a soft top car that usualy goes out in hot sunny weather and will never see snow. I just dont get that
Left home at 6.15am hot chairs on heater on shades on and roof off. Temp was a sunny cool 12' and as long as it is not raining that's how I travel all year around. Summer days obviously hot chairs are not required but for a good 9 months plus of topless motoring they can well be the best and most useful extra to have on a soft top in the UK[8D]

Do your buttocks get sweaty? Talking to someone about heated seats recently who had concerns about this, in particularly the 'crack' area in between the cheeks. As a result they never use them.

Not sure, hopefully not for now :p. Could the release of the new GTS have any impact?! We may see more Spyders coming onto the market which will give buyers more power in getting a deal!

I don't think so. Firstly, they are too expensive for what they offer which is basically a disappointing (to me at least) parts bin special. Secondly, the market is flooded with nearly new Boxsters and Caymans at significantly reduced price compared to new cars. There are plenty c2000 mile Cayman S on the used car locator which are just about £10k less than they would cost if you put the same spec in the new car configurator. In contrast, look at Rob's post above - the JZM Spyder is being advertised for more than he paid for it when it was nearly new!

I have to agree...... i cannot see a Spyder owner jumping ship to own a GTS when the minute they drive out the showroom it start to loose value and is just as Rob said a parts bin special ,not saying it is not a nice car but not as exclusive as the Spyder /Cayman R .The market is flooded with almost new Boxster's all at discounted prices . I would not hang around looking for a bargain as it is not going to happen IMO

The GTS is far more likely to hit the 981 "S" owners than Spydermen as proven by the fact one model is going South with every passing month and the other has bottomed out and seems to be going North at least for now and the foreseeable IMO Unlike Rob I actually think the 981 GTS is a very nice piece of kit with all the option boxes Porsche has ticked as standard but when I play with the configurator my chosen spec is always circa £65k (incl over £2100[]wasted on Nav for the next owner not me) and once I drive off the forecourt my £65k car has just dropped £15k minimum whilst my Spyder has probably risen in value a good £5k+ since December 2013[:D] UK Spyders Today 113 manual - 86 pdk = 199 Nuff said [:D]

Don't get me wrong, I think the GTS is a nice car, it's just that I think they could have been a tad more adventurous given the absence of Spyder or R models. As you say, at £65k with a few frills it's a dear car too I think.

Can't actually see them building another Spyder until the 981 is at the end of production (end of the model life, not a facelift), if at all. Wasn't exactly a huge seller.

ORIGINAL: tyinsky To me (and many others) the heated sports seats are the preferred option. Couldn't have bought one with buckets. Also prefer the way they look in a Boxster.

lol we all know it takes all sorts and we all belong to our own little groups on what we all think is correct. Porsche marketed a car in it's true spec, but offered options to ruin it (;-p) which people liked and added, each to their own and well done to Porsche for offering options to get more sales in, it also puts car in the spec Porsche intended to command a a higher price come the future, :) and makes them much rarer, I know of two people looking and have been looking for white, manual cars with buckets seats and Spyder wheels for months on end now. At the end of the day any Spyder is holding great resale, so if you only like the looks and not interested in the performance or whole idea of the car, then it's still a safe buy on looks alone so why not buy one in any spec. for me I would save 10k and buy the car at rybook and have a working roof if I wanted AC, PCM, heated seats, PDK etc as it's 98% the car. 30k get you a newer car with all the toys and it has full leather, it's looks a really nice car for the money. It even has Spyder wheels and Sports Exhaust which half the real Spyders for sale don't even have lol

What are you going on about? The Spyder is just about weight and outright performance? Do you seriously think that there really is a right or wrong spec? That people have ruined their cars by adding options to them? You do realise these are not track or race cars? That someone might like driving with an auto box, or prefers the look of the Turbo wheels, wants air-conditioning or whatever does not ruin the concept of the car - the weight is still removed overall compared to a like-for-like Boxster. How come the people you know have not bought the cars that have been available over the last few months matching the spec you seem to think is the most sought after? Or are you just talking chit? [:D]
