Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

We've never met, but I've got to say I was a bit surprised by this one - I even checked the diary to make sure it wasn't 1st April again! Hope someone (maybe on here already?) gets the deal done on your Spyder soon - I have a 3rd party interest (or call it noseyness if you will) as spec is very similar to mine [;)]
ORIGINAL: rob.kellock No - red Cayman S PDK. Initial impressions best not be posted here or I'll be banned from the Spyderweb. Gutted to lose the Spyder but it's a bloody good car.

ORIGINAL: zyp Looks very nice Rob. Just hope no one in Notts buys your Spyder - I like being the only one in the village ;) What does the groovy light design thing do?
Sorry ;0p
Good move! (And quick) We're opposite sides in Notts so will probably never be seen on the same road at the same time...

Nice car Rob ...love the colour all Porches should be Red [;)] I like the wheels looks very smart much nicer than the ones posted of the Yellow Cayman .. All the health to enjoy .

Thanks again gents. Will be on the prom tomorrow morning for sure. Didn't want to sell privately as major service due etc. and happy with the deal / convenience.

Congrats Rob! Good colour, cool wheels, job done[;)] A brave man going straight from showroom to track but what better way to get familiar[:)] Is this the Regional Director's flavour; a smart new 981 or a mega ££££ classic 356 - nothing in between is fitting? [:D]

Hi Daro911 Indeed my second Spyder. Bought one (White, manual) in the summer of 2012 from OPC Swindon. Had just moved house so didn't use it enough to justify keeping so sold in early 2013 back to Swindon. Took a big hit and regretted ever since. Then bought 993 but missed the open air so back to the Spyder. I'm can't wait to own Kenny's old car. He has looked after it so we'll and I love the PDK :) Hope to collect next Friday as DVLA boys have sorted the plates out. Would be good to know if and when you guys get together!! Mark

Good times on track today with rob and his new toy. Gave him a spin in the Spyder which as normal holds its own in a old fashion slow shifting sort of way :) Went out In the cayman and it's a very nice bit of kit esp with leather dash, as normal not impressed with N spec tyres though ;-) See you on the prom tomorrow.

My Spyder did Oulton Park 4 times, Stowe Part of Silverstone once, Anglesey once and 22000 other miles on its original front tyres. Bridgestones. The Pirellis today were screwed before morning coffee... On Friday I was wondering when I'd ever be in a Spyder again. Delighted it was today! Even from the passenger seat you can tell how different/ amazing the Spyder is. Cayman S is a giant killer too though. Could just about keep up with Demon :) Sorry we missed you when leaving - looked high and low for you!

Am I reading that right? You have gone through a pair of front tyres in a weekend by doing one trackday?

Does anyone else think the PSE on these cars is too quiet? Thankfully it has PSE as with it switched off it feels completely mute, however I would like it to be a bit more noticable - is there anything that can be done aside from fitting an aftermarket product? Apparently the Cayman R has a larger tubing section that gives it a few more BHP and a better sound. Is this true and is it noticeable? Mr Demon?

Yes the cayman r is larger dia exhaust and a bit louder but it helps having a roof to make it sound louder inside. My spyder pse is unplugged so always on, they are quite loud when you see others , just not when You are driving it. Best option would be to buy the r non pse and have gert do a job on it. Which is about £1200

I can't get the technical reason confirmed by Porsche but my original manual PSE Spyder was so quiet between 20-40mph cut off that I bought a Carnewal remote controller gizmo that allowed the valves to be open and not automatically cut off at 20-40mph and if I wanted to shutdown to the muted almost silent mode then it could be done using the remote controller. Moving on at the same time I owned my manual Spyder a friend owned a 987 S PDK / PSE and his car was so much louder than mine and didn't suffer the 20-40mph cut off at all. Now on Spyder No.2 PDK/PSE I can definitely confirm it is much louder than my old car, even when turned off you can still hear a soundtrack from out back! When on which is 24.7 in my case the 20-40mph cut off like my friends 987S thankfully seems to not be working like it did on my manual I can only assume the louder sound from a PDK must having something to do with the extra weight or extra radiator or both even on PDK cars Either way I feel my old manual was certainly lacking and my current PDK is almost where I want to be but a few % more decibels would have done me perfectly Having said all this I can confirm my soundtrack is far more racey and louder than my brothers 997 Speedster which sadly didn't come with PSE and as it came with every factory option as standard kit included in the price I can only assume PSE was left off for technical reasons. Either way the only real major disappointment on his beast from my view
