Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: MrDemon werk stat works and looks better than the Zymol for white imo and is very very easy to put on and cheap. Goto page one and look who has the car with the best reflections and for white that's not easy esp with a wax. its about the right products for the right job :)

Zymol on the R though :)

You've probably already been through this on here, but can I ask what your motivation was for buying what many would consider two cars, equally limited in usability, that are virtually the same thing? It is a very interesting and quite extreme petrol head choice. Can't imagine many others have done this.

ORIGINAL: zyp I won't use them either. Although I've got a Macan test drive there on Saturday.... oops.
So you really are "using" them :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

They're having an open day and invited us for a drive (And we are seriously contemplating ordering one, or a new M3) To be fair, Ben in parts dept. is a good chap and Gary Lott in sales is also decent and the only one there I'd buy a car from. Other than those two, the personnel have changed over the last 4 years and not for the better IMO.

Aways ran two cars on and off depending on funds, mostley a Clio Sport of some sort along with a Noble, Lotus or some thing for fun. Then I got annoyed of having a £30k car in the garage and driving a cheap car 90% of the time, so I moved into using a CSL, Cayman, TTRS as my main car and swapped them every year (50 odd cars owned) but none of these cars were ever like a Noble or a Lotus for feel, so I thought I'll buy another fun car to go along side with the TTRS, this was a big step as the TTRS I bought new and it used up the car fund. At the same time I came into a small bit of money :) so 2.5 years ago I bought the Spyder along with the TTRS and this was a great combo, I was getting my Noble/Lotus style fun from the Spyder (hence going manual) and the TTRS was tuned to be the fastest thing on the road (faster than 997 turbo speed) and every thing was nice, I then got a email from some one selling a mint 996 GT3 mk2 a car I always wanted to own I I don't mind driving hard core cars day to day, so with regret I swapped the TTRS for the GT3 and had a GT3 and the Spyder. nice combo some might say.

The GT3 is NOT the pipe dream I thought it was going to be, every drive was frustrating only 1 in 10 drives was fun, as good as the GT3 is they just don't work on UK b roads where I live and play. SO what to do, I just sold the fastest thing ever, the TTRS for a GT3 which I don't like while still having the Spyder and thought "what an idiot" Ithe TTRS was a 1 trick pony though and I loved my time with it but the feel of the car was starting to get dull once you have had you fun with the speed of it (tuned of course) I test drove the new Exige but was not that impressed, so on a whim of frustration I sold the GT3 and bought a M3 V8 Comp, I thought what a nice car to go with the Spyser and it was a looker huge spec all carbon and comp pack. But alass the bloody thing was dull to drive, Iwas back in a Auto and DCT is awesome, better than PDK imo 6 modes to choose from unlike the daft normal PDK mode or stupid sports mode the PDK only has. but A: I did not like driving a Auto it was to easy and was dull dull dull and B: 17 mpg was being a right pain in the arse, it had to go after 2 months but again what to buy !!!! at this time I had a daft pot of cash for a car I had the Spyder which I owed and after selling the M3 had a fund of £80k in my hand (this is ofcourse 45 years of working up to this amount and of course coming into a few k) So my eyes went to the F430 but whenI thought nice these issues came up, A: cannot visit clients in it, b: running xosts will kill me, c: so will service costs d: so will part ex back to a dealer. I buy ltd ed cars and really don't loose much on a car, buy 2nd hand a wise choices, so after the F430 was on hold (but sill a sort of dream) I had a look about and thought well after the Noble and the Lotus the Spyder is on the the best driving cars I have owned, but not day to day so why not buy it's sister and have one with a roof :) the R was born and here I am with both, and after over 50+ cars the R is the best car I have ever owned and 1.5 years on I still have it. The R does every thing I want and love in a car it's awesome. the Spyder is now my toy and while prices are firm did not see anypoint in selling it, and I love it also. So while they are a bit the same no other car manufacture makes anything any better inc Porsche (inc the new models) if you love driving and the odd track day. I await the Cayman GT4 but would have to sell both to buy one so it would need to be amazing. and a tough one thinking selling the R and have to add 50k !!!!! (hence good bye Spyer also) I have gone off the Ferrari thing now for many reasons and the off set pedals etc, but do like the R8 V10 plus :) to many spelling errors to correct sorry, :)

I am with Flat6 on this one. The sooner you do it the sooner you will start to collect new chips. Very often owners are the most aware of minor chips others don't notice. If you intend to keep the car for some time I would wait and get it done when it has gathered a few more. However I think the OPC should have corrected it, and should still correct it, as part of the preparation for sale. let them know you are not happy before you answer the questionnaire. My local OPC will not sell a second hand car that is not prepared to as new condition and their removal of stone chips is of an extremely high standard.
ORIGINAL: philnotts99 I know my head is saying leave it, heart says do it! [:D].....And as mentioned i could get one driving home anyway!... For a 4 year old car and 22k on the clock it’s in very good condition, even if Rob visited the kitty litter a few times [8D] Looking around the car last night, i think my biggest problem is going to be tar marks on the white. Never owned a white car before but you can really see them. Autoglym intense tar remover was working quite well though.

my Spyder had a few chips when I got it, its a 2nd hand car My R has had a front end respray by the OPC as they wanted it 100% in the show room I got chips (about 4) on it driving it home. paint to soft imo on new paint. Don't worry about it. Road rash at the rear will be far worse both mine are awefull. it's a car, it will get stone chips, it used to be a hang up ,it no longer is, fit film and it will get a chip where you did not fit film. drive it and enjoy it, the OPC won't do anything about it now you have bought it either, so don't make any stress for your self imo. If I were in sales and some one bought a 4 year old car back with a couple of chips I would say "I can sell you a new one chip free if you like" Cars are for driving and these are 4 years old now. buy a touch up stick and apply with tooth pick than wet sand back and polish if you want to take it a step on from just a tooth pick blob. paint never matchs any way EVER what ever the car you can tell it's had a front end respray. you see 1970 cars and owners state org paint, no new Porsche owner will be able to say this as the OPC'a front end respray every thing which is over bad on chips. my paint don't match 100% , you see pics of a lot of spyders here where the front don't match 100% I guess loads have had front end paint. rather have org paint and a few tiny chips myself.

So even if the OPC agreed to re-spray it for free.. would this change things... [8D] (Not saying they are, or will, just putting a twist on it!)

If they resprayed it for free and there was a slight mismatch in colour, that'll be a bigger eyesore to you that knows, than the stone chips would have been. As I say, sometimes even on the same colour code, the match is not exact. You can't reverse a respray. Interesting what MrD says about his respray being softer than the factory job. That would also be a disappointment in some ways. If the car is peppered and then resprayed but its not quite a match then it will look better to you after the respray than before. If it's only got a few and passes the 5 foot test, then perhaps its not worth it. If someone admiring your car has to peer into it at close quarters to spot the stone chips the they are always going to find something whether that be stone chips or swirl marks etc. RobK, it's a strange feeling when your car is sold to someone you're still in touch with isn't it. Phil has made it clear what a poor state your car was in[:D] (Just joking fellas[:)]) I've got tyinsky telling me how his tried to rip into the engine bay, has tested the roof beyond the recommended speed limits, is still using my old registration number and other antic my poor ex-car isn't used to[:D]

the paint seems to have hardened now and no newer chips, but I think it takes a good few months to go fully off and harder. In the 1st week I picked up so many new chips on brand new paint it prob looked better before lol. I would prob refuse a front end respray yes. some one scratched my TTRS in its 2nd day one of the only cars I bought band new, they wanted to repaint the whole side of the car as they said it would never match. I filled in the scratch and just added clearcoat it looked 100% and no need for any new paint. buy a touch up stick and flatten it back it will look as good as new imo. do the pics of my cars look shit ? they both have mutli stone chips. I think the rear leading edge of the air vent area looks worse with chips, go take a look then cry lol

Haha. Yep, 14 o roof on, been in the engine and unplugged the exhaust switch, kerbed a wheel, put it sideways a few times, been stopped by the feds for not having insurance (well, it was insured, just on your reg number). German slag is loving it.

ORIGINAL: philnotts99 ...Thinking it could be a topless drive tonight [:D]
You or the wife? [:D] I've finished work for the day now, so off to get the beers and bbq coals for tonight. How British is that?! [8D]
