Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

I cant speak for others but for me I purchased the Spyder I wanted. I just don't understand why people keeping on banging away about the only car to have (is the one I have) So you like to do track days and want the vehicle light in order you can thrash it around the track. OK if that's what you want I understand that! We don't often drive fast, but a spirited evening drive does quite nicely for us. When I drive abroad or at home if I want to listen to music I can turn on the sound pack plus. On a chilly but bright November mornings hood down and heated seats on. We can stop for a cup of Coca and and move off again quickly thanks to the Cup Holders on our car. The coloured roll bar looks great and the Red stitching to match the cars exterior colour also looks good. My car also has the reversing sensors so when reversing this assists parking in tight spaces. At night the we can see where we are going thanks to the directional Xenon Headlights. Porsche think of everything! Even when the Headlights get dirty they have fitted washers to clean the Headlights. Our car is also fitted with the Sports Chrono option. To assist us with keeping in touch the car is fitted with Mobile prep. We also love the sound of the Sports exhaust. The wheels look great and are the original Spyder lightweight ones which match the car perfectly. We have the standard brakes and when required these stop the car quickly. Now would I ditch any of the above to save a few ounces? No! Would I swap my car for one of those lightweights that's only purpose is to keep shaving fractions of a track lap time? No. Would I buy a lightweight Spyder with lower track/road miles over a higher mileage specification car like mine? I don't think so!
 
ORIGINAL: MrDemon what I find funny is people quoting reviews and timing sheets of a Spyder beating a R8 when 80% of the Spyders sold would prob lap slower than that R8 in the Test. the Spyder tested was the full monty light weight spec car with PCCB's !!! and when you are talking 8/10ths then that's the only spec which is going to lap faster.

It's just an outstanding car and always roof off, bar when I arrived back in the UK it was raining as normal !
 
Well I picked this car up from 911 Virgin almost couple of weeks ago now, and must say it's been all good so far.

Terry from 911 picked me up from Heathrow, the car was pretty much in showroom condition as described, and the whole buying experience was very professional and relaxed. These car specs seem to be a hot topic on here, but for me this one was pretty much spot on. I probably would have preferred a manual but due to long legs this was out, so PDK it had to be and I'm getting on with it no problem so far. The wheels for me really suit the car, as do the bucket seats, wasn't too fussed about other options to be honest. I did wonder about the vinyl dash before seeing it but that soon became a non issue. Initial impressions were very impressive, car felt very tight and responsive etc, and the sports exhaust did sound great. The steering I think is excellent although not quite as much feedback as my previous GT3 maybe, at lower speeds at least. The car just looks the part as well, nothing but very positive comments from everyone so far, including various GT3 owner friends. My other half who is just not into cars at all took one look at it and said - Wow that's the best car you've ever bought, can we go to Italy in it later this year ?? - High praise indeed !! We have some decent roads in NE Scotland, and after driving a good few miles over the weekend on them I'm really bonding with the car, just feels great to drive and seems to suit these roads very well. I think the Alps would probably suit it even better so will see how that plans goes. I did have some initial reservations about the roof and how weather proof it might be, but driving back up to Scotland through some torrential rain was no problem at all, very impressed. So all in all I'm really pleased I bought this fantastic car, and look forward to getting some more exciting miles on it throughout the summer month(s) !! Hi Sandy and welcome to the Spyders den ...I did say the hood is not an issue up here where we tend to get a bit more inclement weather even in July [;)] Car looks great and hope you enjoy it .Yes we have some great roads up here doing a tour with DDK in August .Hope to see you at some Scottish event soon . The steering I think is excellent although not quite as much feedback as my previous GT3 maybe
you mean the GT3 over stiff ARB'a which causes the wheel to get ripped out your hand if you run over a nats cock !!! people seem to call this feedback , it's not.... Steering feel matches any GT3 imo and because the ARB's are not as stiff as a GT3 I would have to say the steering is way better than any GT3. imho of course :) if you like the way the GT3 steering was, a GT3 ARB bolts straight on, and you can then have the Spyders steering wheel ripped out yours hands again...
 
Cheers guys. On the steering, no I didn't actually mean having the GT3 steering wheel ripped out my hands as that never actually seemed to happen, just some additional subtle feel through the steering wheel which I do tend to call feedback. I did say especially noticed at lower speeds, it's less noticeable at higher speeds and is basically excellent to me as steering goes.
 
the 911 has lighter steering if anything, the only thing giving you feel (as it's the same system) is the stiff ARB one wheel hits a small item, it moves the other wheel, thus this False feedback people state. that's not feed back , that's your steering wheel being forced to move because just one wheels runs over a finger nail. take a GT3 over 100mph on a B road and it gets to a point the wheel is trying to detach it's self from the steering column even on full soft ! steering feel, ie the grip feel is far better in the Cayman and Spyder due to the weight split of the car. you can of course improve the Spyder steering by ditching the oem geo and putting 7mm spacer only on the front hubs. next would be GT3 LCA's to get ever move neg camber to the front Wheels, and then to go the full hog fitting the GT3 ARB's but that would ruin it for road use. it can be as good or better for little money if you so wish. My R only runs on the road and the steering is spot on just with geo and front spacers far better than my GT3 was. on track you will run out of camber, but for road it's pretty much as good as it gets. No new Porsche now comes close with electric steering ;-(, but I am sure they can get there.

Don't worry, the "spec" issue is a non-event. It's only a couple of posters who have a real hang-up about what they think everyone else should have (i.e. everyone should have their spec). The rest of us accept that these are fundamentally brilliant cars whatever the spec; that there often isn't much choice in the market; and that people have different preferences. Everyone has their own personal deal-breakers, but there's no "wrong" spec as such because every single car has the same weight-saving over the equivalent S, the same suspension set-up, and the same unique Spyder touches inside and out which together make the Spyder what it is - a great, rare, terrific looking, reliable, practical, low-depreciation sports car with all the performance you need in the real world. I took my car to the south of France last year (during which it did more miles than some cars have done since they were built) and it was epic for the whole journey - I cannot think of a better companion for such a trip (car-wise....). Practical, fast, frugal when on the autoroute and astonishingly accomplished in the twisties. Simply incredible, you will love it.

Does anyone know where I can get my car valued for insurance purposes? And what should I be valuing it at? Due at the end of the week!

I'll leave then, too much polishing going on and some even fly to le mans and leave the car at home :p I'll meet like for like people on the Porsche/Lotus track days and other events. you seem to miss the "Oh dear couldn't help noticing the rear screen - that's surely a couple of lbs !! " quote but with no smiley at the end ..... to show it's for fun ! my explanation of the steering you might find to be spot on.
 
Welcome on board Sandy. It's always good to hear the first impressions from a new owner and as a comparison to their car they used to have. This is a great corner of the Internet for the Spyder and even more so for a having some cars where the owner and previous owner are both present. I think we have three of those now. Will be good to hear your impressions after you've covered some more miles[:)]
