Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

2,200 miles later, we're back! Have I missed anything on here? The Spyder was a great companion for the journey. I don't know whether to feel guilty doing so many miles in a fortnight, but it definitely suits the car to take it on an extended trip over some great roads.

Just back from day at PEC where I drove Mr D's dream spec GTS Boxster Ceramics, Sport Chassis, and latest greatest PDK with paddles[:D] The GTS with PSE switched off sounded better than my Spyder with PSE "on" needless to say when switched on the car sounded awesome and not just from the cockpit but also from the outside on the cars going around the track. Some journo said this was the best sounding Porsche exhaust on any model to date and I have to agree after 17 years Porsche have finally hit the right note whether on or off[:D] OK how does she go in a word "brilliantly" The sport chassis is in another league to the Spyders and jumping from that GTS to a PASM 981 S really showed how fantastic that new sport chassis option is on track side. In the real world I have no personal experience but my instructor said Porsche have improved its abilities on and off track but he added he doubts many customers will ever order it as they will be more than happy with the stock option or if buying a GTS the PASM option that comes as part of the package. The ceramic brakes made the standard "S" brakes feel quite soft although on the road I am sure they feel fine and a lot more powerful than my Spyders current steels do The way this GTS goes, sounds and feels convinces me more than ever what a bargain it is when compared to a 991 Cabrio unless you need the 4 chairs of course In the car park I spotted a Spyderman anyone from here by some chance![;)]

Nice! The fact that it was on its original front tyres at 22k miles tells you how hard it was driven !!

Yes some lovely car and what a variety - great to see cars both front and rear engined in such numbers. You had what looked like great weather in a beautiful location. Credit to the Scottish Regions who put on the event. Dont all the Red ones look bright in the video? Or is that my eyes. The 356A looks stunning and the rudge wheels top it off.

also at Silverstone yesterday; excellent morning. The GTS was awesome; brilliant noise, fast, poised, PDK 2 rapid, quality interior (alcantara and leather), all in all a very desirable machine. However on the drive home I decided that I wouldn't be reaching for the calculator and cheque book; it still didn't have the Spyder wow factor; yes, it's moved the game on in many ways but it lacks the ethos and looks of the Spyder. I'll wait for the next gen Spyder (if there is one!!)

Can someone share some knowledge on servicing please? My car will is due a major this year. • Should I be using an OPC or somewhere else (I'd prefer to keep it with an OPC)? • What should I expect to pay (I always read figures like £200 and come out with a bill for £1,800!)? • Where? I am in SE London but can easily get out to Kent - should I expect the same level of service and price from East London Porsche that I would from say Tonbridge? • Is it likely I will need disks (will be on 28/29k). Should I do these first, or get someone else to do them with Porsche parts? • Tyres will probably be needed • Warranty will be up for renewal, and I think I would like to do this. Is this really not worth having on a Gen 2 car or are people getting use from it? • As the car is in warranty, and has only seen servicing from an OPC, will I still have to undergo the 111 point check if I renew before it expires? Anything else I should be aware of?

if you need 4 tyres, warranty and service i wouldnt expect much change from £4k[:-] but it will be worth it !!

ORIGINAL: tyinsky Was expecting between that and £5k. [8|]
As far as the 111 point check it was my understanding that as long as the car still had warranty and you where renewing it you did not pay for this part . As far as the rest of the cost go I cannot help on the other matter other than to say I would shop around and play one dealer of the other and not forgetting your club discount ,ask about using your own Mobil 1 oil that will save you at least £100 .If you do not intend to extend the warranty get the min required for a stamp in the book and get the rest done by a good indy at a fraction of the cost .I may be way out as to costs but it seems you guys in the South pay a lot more than we do

Nothing like thrashing around the PEC wearing out other peoples cars[:D] Was good to see you there and the GTS I had the pleasure of would cost just under £74k[] and there were probably other little extras I never even spotted so is it worth circa my car and £35k! if I ticked all those same boxes[:D] Back to reality I reckon I could shave a good £10k off that examples list price but have to agree with your conclusion[;)]

I bought my Spyder from East London but I live closest to Tonbridge. Both quoted me the same price for my major service, I went with Tonbridge as they picked up and dropped off my car from home. There is also a great route form mine to the Tonbridge showroom which I use for the odd fun drive and always raid their free coffee as a half way stop off, I guess I owed them some business! They replaced the two front tyres as well at a price that was about £10 per tyre higher than I could find online, quite happy with that uplift. I'd be interested to hear if you need your disks changed at 28/29k, I'll be coming up to that soon.

its fixed price for the main service, the issue is the extra which are needed. 1: sparkplugs and labour 2: brake fluid change 3: AC change/refresh 4: MOT so while the main is fixed at £699 (I think) you need to get better prices on the other 4 items or get them done some where else but keep the OPC for the main service stamps.

Well JZM want £39900 for my old girl so maybe this one is even cheaper [:D] http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/boxster-987-05-12/low-mileage-boxster-spyder-supplied-in-superb-order-throughout-inc-transferable-porsche-warranty-until-january-2015/2285658

Its 45k nice car, a bit lacking in the spec, but has the BIG ones and a long time since a white, manual with spyder wheels and bucket seats car has come up. NO leather, NO PSE, NO PCCB, NO SS though but out of those SS can be added and is needed as can the PSE. PCCB and leather is rare and would have cost £7.5k at the time of purchase so rare options. All in all a great looking car for a driver focus car and low miles in the right colour, ADD £2.5k to add a Cayman R exhaust and SS and it is about perfect. And with the major service done will add value. £45k is top money when it does not seem to have a warranty or PSE but if you want a white manual, with buckets and Spyder wheels you gotta pay the price these days.

Hmmm so fast forward to 2018 and would a 4 year old £75k 981 GTS as driven by me yesterday with 4k miles and 2 owners be worth more, similar or less money than this low spec Spyder is today [:)]
