Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

If you had it serviced at a recognised independent and skip the warranty you would probably save 3.5k. Doesn't take long before you have saved enough serious money to underwrite major problems which, from the experience on here seem to have slim odds of occurring. To the best of my knowledge no one on here has ever reported a problem, on the forum, that has been expensive to fix. However in saying all this you may not wish to take any chance at all and it is a very personal choice, any one of us could suffer a major mechanical failure even though it seems rare with this Gen 2 car.
ORIGINAL: tyinsky Was expecting between that and £5k. [8|]

My costs (from OPC Leeds) for the following were: Major Service, Spark plugs, Brake fluid, 4 new Michelin PS2 tyres - Oct 13 = £1,895 2 year warranty extension inc Porsche Assist and 111 point check - May 13 = £1,760 Hope that helps. Steve
ORIGINAL: tyinsky Can someone share some knowledge on servicing please? My car will is due a major this year. • Should I be using an OPC or somewhere else (I'd prefer to keep it with an OPC)? • What should I expect to pay (I always read figures like £200 and come out with a bill for £1,800!)? • Where? I am in SE London but can easily get out to Kent - should I expect the same level of service and price from East London Porsche that I would from say Tonbridge? • Is it likely I will need disks (will be on 28/29k). Should I do these first, or get someone else to do them with Porsche parts? • Tyres will probably be needed • Warranty will be up for renewal, and I think I would like to do this. Is this really not worth having on a Gen 2 car or are people getting use from it? • As the car is in warranty, and has only seen servicing from an OPC, will I still have to undergo the 111 point check if I renew before it expires? Anything else I should be aware of?

ORIGINAL: Andrew Killington O/T Hi guys, I've bought an A45 AMG and just wanted to put in context of Porsche (probably?) moving to turbo 4 cylinders for next gen Boxsters. If the Merc is anything to go by Porsche could easily develop a 350plus BHP 4 cyl turbo, combine it with the use of aluminium/composites, ensure they get the steering feel right, and I think it would be a cracker! There would be nothing to worry about performance wise it would however mean coming to terms with that emotional step change from 6cyl to 4 cyl turbo. I did have a M135i (and whilst not a Porsche) still had a decent 6cyl motor; do I miss it, no; the A45 is much more of an event (throttle map could be improved) I'm in the queue for the new generation GT4/Spyder equivalent whatever it is called and if it happens; I do now feel there is life after the 6cylinder. regards Andrew
Hi Andrew How is it going with the Ferrari? I have moved to a 997 turbo and the performance is a hoot! I am having a lot of fun. I guess I am a bit of a power junky and could probably not go back to less power now that I am addicted[&o] To the guys that have gone from more powerful cars to the Spyder, i'm obviously more one dimensional than you, but how do you find it?

I went from F430 to Spyder... and as I have mentioned in the past, teh Ferrari had a real sense of theatre, and an awesome soundtrack - but the Spyder is frankly more usable on the road... its got the right amount of power to actually use and enjoy!

See the £45k ones back on a poa. Which is daft, I don't even phone poa adverts up, poa normally meals fucking expensive.

ORIGINAL: dyllan if you need 4 tyres, warranty and service i wouldnt expect much change from £4k[:-] but it will be worth it !!
ORIGINAL: kitchens As far as the 111 point check it was my understanding that as long as the car still had warranty and you where renewing it you did not pay for this part . As far as the rest of the cost go I cannot help on the other matter other than to say I would shop around and play one dealer of the other and not forgetting your club discount ,ask about using your own Mobil 1 oil that will save you at least £100 .If you do not intend to extend the warranty get the min required for a stamp in the book and get the rest done by a good indy at a fraction of the cost .I may be way out as to costs but it seems you guys in the South pay a lot more than we do
ORIGINAL: Big E I bought my Spyder from East London but I live closest to Tonbridge. Both quoted me the same price for my major service, I went with Tonbridge as they picked up and dropped off my car from home. There is also a great route form mine to the Tonbridge showroom which I use for the odd fun drive and always raid their free coffee as a half way stop off, I guess I owed them some business! They replaced the two front tyres as well at a price that was about £10 per tyre higher than I could find online, quite happy with that uplift. I'd be interested to hear if you need your disks changed at 28/29k, I'll be coming up to that soon.
ORIGINAL: MrDemon its fixed price for the main service, the issue is the extra which are needed. 1: sparkplugs and labour 2: brake fluid change 3: AC change/refresh 4: MOT so while the main is fixed at £699 (I think) you need to get better prices on the other 4 items or get them done some where else but keep the OPC for the main service stamps.

Thank you everyone. Good to know what to expect and from reading all that, as long as I am organised with the brakes if they are needed, and the tyres, I should be able to save a bit. Oil possibly too. East London OPC is really easy for me to get to so maybe that's the place. Tonbridge isn't really that far either though if you get a courtesy car. Warranty is the one making me think. No one has had a big claim yet? But then all the cars here are still only 4 year old (or there about) and mostly quite low mileage. Maybe I should look further to the Boxster/Cayman S Gen 2 cars and try to find out if there are people making claims against it?

I pondered the same with my cayman s and spent 2 years worrying and saved £1500 I couldn't cope second time around and took the extra warranty on the boxster s and had about £15 k repairs in the 2 yer warranty All boils down to Clints words " do you feel lucky punk?!" All the best !

If you thrash the car and it has over 20k miles plus on the parts already then a warranty may possibly pay dividends otherwise do what I do and keep the money as a sinking fund in case anything ever goes pop and cash money will be needed to sort it[:D]

Cracking pair but should have been "topless"[8D]

So is the 981 Spyder getting closer to reality now facelift is out in the www[&o] Facelifted Porsche Boxster spotted testing Greg Kable The first pictures have emerged of the facelifted third-generation Porsche Boxster undergoing testing. Set to be unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt motor show prior to the start of UK sales late next year, the reworked roadster sports a number of minor exterior styling tweaks, including a revised front bumper and altered head lamps graphics, as part of the mid life make over. However, the biggest change looks set to take place in the engine bay, where Porsche plans the introduction of a new horizontally opposed four-cylinder powerplant as part of plans to broaden the appeal of the Boxster and its fixed roof sister model, the Cayman. Already confirmed by Porsche chairman, Matthias Mueller, the new engine is planned to be offered alongside upgraded versions of the existing Boxster’s horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. “We will continue with the downsizing strategy and develop a new four-cylinder boxer engine, which will see service in the next-generation Boxster and Cayman,” Muller confirmed in an interview conducted last year. “We will not separate ourselves from efforts to reduce CO2”. When queried on the output of the new four-cylinder boxer engine, Mueller said it would boast “up to 400ps (395bhp)”. Recent information suggests the new flat four engine will range in capacity from 1.6-litres to 2.5-litres and range in power from 210bhp through to the 395bhp alluded to by Mueller. The six-cylinder boxer engine used by the existing Boxster and Cayman develops 261bhp and 271bhp respectively in 2.7-litre form, with a larger 3.4-litre unit offering either 311bhp, 325bhp or 335bhp depending on the model it is deployed.

You do realise you will get the blame if they do !!!! [:'(] As it was you that stared this thread way back ..and possibly have alerted Matthias Mueller to a possible money pot in making a new Spyder Edition....I have heard on very good authority he reads our posts on a regular basis . Roofs in place due to an absolutely dire weather forecast, which turned out to be totally unfounded!
