Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

this was stunning though one of my fav cars from Wilton. Loved the inside also. And a Spyder with a perfect roof. some times in real life you just fall in love, I went off 458's and this car was stunning in the flesh and to sit in. You have to buy super cars with your heart.

I don't suppose any of you kind chaps has a discount code to use on an online Halfords purchase? I'm replacing my aged (and failing) CTEK charger with another one, and good old Halfrauds seem to be best bet at the moment, but being a Yorkshireman I'm trying to squeeze a bit more out of the stone! Thanks, Steve

12000 posts is quite a milestone, well done chaps. Is it just me or is the headlight detail if the McLaren supposed to look like a swan's head? Anyone who says they are dull has never heard one at full revs or seen how they go - I once encountered one on a dual carriageway in the Lake District driven by an "enthusiastic" gent when I was in my Spyder, have really liked them ever since.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/pebble-beach/mclaren-unveils-new-650s-sprint-ahead-pebble-beach-debut A track-only version of the McLaren 650S coupé, called the 650 Sprint, will be launched at Pebble Beach this weekend. The 650 Sprint, which will be shown alongside the 986bhp P1 GTR and MSO-tuned versions of the 650S Spider and P1, will go on sale for £198,000. It benefits from a host of revisions that McLaren states allows the car to "deliver a more engaging GT racing experience, without losing any of the refinement and balance found in the road car". Among the changes are recalibrated engine and transmission control systems, which are reputed to offer a more responsive and involving nature. The Sprint otherwise retains retains the 650S' twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre V8, which produces 641bhp and 500lb ft, and power is sent to the rear wheels by the same seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In standard form this helps the 650S sprint from 0-60mph in 3.0sec. Other developments include an revised Brake Steer system – which can brake the inside rear wheel for better cornering – and a new race configuration for McLaren's ProActive Chassis Control system. Further upgrades include retuned active aerodynamics, a lowered ride height, recalibrated adaptive dampers, 19-inch centre-locking wheels shod with Pirelli slick or wet wheels, an onboard air jacking system and improved brakes. Inside, the McLaren's stripped-out cabin features an FIA-approved rollcage, integrated fire extinguisher and a new lightweight carbonfibre racing seat with six-point harness. Though luxuries inside are few, air conditioning has been retained. McLaren says the 650S Sprint also shares features with the 650S GT3 racer, which made its debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this summer, including the GT3's larger motorsport-derived fuel tank, upgraded radiator and new front wing louvres. Customers can also specify a 'computational fluid dynamics' package, which adds more aerodynamic bodywork including a carbonfibre rear wing and new front splitter. Other options include a passenger seat with harness and a lightweight polycarbonate windscreen. The McLaren 650S Sprint will be presented at Pebble Beach in racing livery.

http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/planetevovideos/292993/porsche_boxster_gts_on_spains_greatest_road.html . Lets get back on track and discuss cars we can all afford [;)] Who stared talking about Mclarens in the first place ?[:)]

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably end up getting the CTEK though, as I like the ability to maintain charge via the cigarette lighter. With a bit more digging, it appears that members get a 10% discount with BatteryPitStop.co.uk so I'm looking into that at the moment.

After getting nowhere with the dealer staff of another marque due to lack of understanding of their own product options and general apathy towards a keen customer, I suggested to my sister to consider a 981 Boxster S. She had considered my 987's a bit too masculine and so hadn't considered the 981. She took a look online and liked it so went to see and test one in the metal. Cut a long story short, she's picking up this one at the weekend (almost doesn't look real in that superimposed picture!). I've reviewed a few 981's on here so most you will know my views on them. Looking forward to getting back into one. Great spec, good colour; the sports exhaust sounds pretty awesome on the video Kitchens just posted, so i'm looking forward to hearing that! I've put an order onto their system now, so will let you know whether it's any good when they produce and ship them.
ORIGINAL: Steve Brown I guess I'll end up buying one of these models! Is anyone else?

They sure are if these prices are anything to go by [:D]
There is so much heat in this market, it's incredible. Personally I think you'd be mad to get into a 996 GT3RS for £150k. There simply has to be, at best, a "correction" on its way.

Now working for Porsche Flat 6?[;)] No just spreading the word. Looks the same as our Boxster Register Secretary Tracy has. I do hope your sis enjoys her new car.

Thanks Brian, thanks John[:)] I'm hoping she'll let me show her what it can do so that she'll then have more confidence to open the taps without worry. But that might end up with us falling out as she might think that me driving it at 6/10ths is lunacy compared to what her previous cars an do[8|]

I guess cars become desireable/collectable/valuable for lots of different reasons. I don't profess to understand it but may the 996 GT3 RS offers something that cars before it and after it don't? Might not be faster or whatever. Might be something nostaligic. Would be interesting to hear from someone in the know. Was surprised to see where the 993 Turbo S has reached. Luckily for me there was no 'S' version in my turbo model otherwise that puts the standard turbo in the shade in terms of desirability.

ORIGINAL: MrDemon And this was also stunning in the flesh, makes a 458 normal car look bland.
No sign of your Spyder though?
nope we went in my mates 116D BMW, as you cannot park at Wilton house and also there was the hurricane storm about to hit the UK. And to keep the miles off my soon to be 60k car going buy 150k RS prices. on the plus side we dumped the car in a park and ride and it cost us <£30 in petrol for the round trip.

There are lots of factors to consider. Cash looking for an asset. Tax efficiency of cars (no capital gains tax). Rarity. Dealers sticking cars up at high prices just to see if there is a bite (usually following an exceptional auction result e.g. 993 RS). But these price rises are unsustainable - it is a bubble like any other. I think there is sufficient cash out there to mean that there won't be a "crash" but you can already see prices softening e.g. Ferrari 360 CS. Other models (F40, F50, Superamerica, 550, 575, 550 Barchetta) have already doubled in the last 12-18 months. Again, this is unsustainable. I think the Salon Prive Silverstone Classics sale will be an interesting benchmark for UK prices for "modern classic" supercars. I also look forward to seeing what the "no reserve" 250 GTO at Bonhams makes. The generally poor performance of the Laidlaw collection last year at RM in Battersea was notable, for example.
