Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

The hits are racking up considerably for a relatively young thread[:)] http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/searchpro.asp?searchfor=active
I dont like to say this but we are running second behind a front engined car![]
There's obviously a good camaraderie amongst those 'front-runners'. Let's hope we can build the same here too[;)]

Now these Spyders fetch mega buck$ 50 odd years later down the road [;)]

you can certainly see why they make so much $!! what a gorgeous machine-my dad used to say he never thought styling would get any better again than those beautiful curves-he had a few 356 in the 60's but never one of these!!

Silver is a classic Porsche colour isn't it. The Platinum Silver looks quite dark in some pics. Is the GT Silver lighter or darker? I can't tell the difference online. From page 58:

And how did this car end up at McLaren!?!? http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://mclaren.rdsautomotivegroup.com/web/used/Porsche-Boxster-2012-West-Chester-PA/5724067/

GT Silver is no lighter or darker than Platinum however GT Silver has more black in the mix making it a distinctive silver/grey and Platinum unlike the name suggests has a definite tinge of yellow pee to it to my eyes of course [:)] These two look like they are taking a well earned rest before the action kicks off again

This looks like a Platinum Silver

It's hard to compare shots from different cameras with different lighting, but by your description daro[:D] I see what you mean. The classic shapes seem to suit silver better to me and for some reason I prefer the modern cars in solid colours like white and red, as per your pic of new and old side by side.

The picture is pretty much how Arctic Silver would look parked next to Platinum even if the camera & lighting are disguising the genuine shades to a degree the effect is spot on IMO

Thanks for clarifying. I never noticed that early spyders were optioned with Arctic silver and then later with Platinum and on dsypda.com the difference is clear.

First Impressions. Well at last one had come up with the spec I required. It was a long list of requirements and having seen the Red Nottingham car which was a close fit I thought that was as near as we may get in red. Only a guess but I expected one to come up in Black since I get the feeling more Black than Red Spyders. However, I was prepared to sit out for a long time - years if need be. I had all sorts of e mail alerts out for Spyders. Early one morning the Oxford car came up. I sat in disbelief as I read the spec! It was Red, had everything on our list and more! An early morning phone call and I was on my way. Well I've no need to tell you boys what happened when the garage door opened and the owner drove it out. The hairs on my neck stood up. I always likening it to meeting a really good looking woman you fancy - you can see many of the same model, women and Spyders but when the right one comes along it just sweeps you away, take me home I could hear her saying, wash me with bubbles, stop it now John your getting carried away[8D] We had a short test drive, inspection of the car and paperwork and It was time to do the deal and quickly. His phone was now hot with incoming calls inquiring after the car, some offering to buy over the phone! A deposit was left and I was on my way home. I vowed not to tell anyone until I collected her since many years ago I lost a car after leaving a deposit.. I was going to collect on the Monday but snow prevented that. A new date was made for Thursday, Valentines day. Up early, read the forum, thanks for the poems, wrote one and off to catch the Bus to Oxford. The bus went across country Milton Keynes, Buckingham etc on the A421 and this is the route I intended to take home. It had snowed and rained the Wednesday night and the roads were wet, filthy with salt and dirt and that started me thinking should I drive home that route? Perhaps the M40 down to the M25 and up the A1 was a better route! The sun was due to come out and these roads would be dry! Arrived at Oxford and a very smooth transaction and it was time to drive home. I jumped behind the wheel and set off - looked in the mirror and saw the seller had taken out his camera for his farewell shot![:(] I stopped a little way up the road at a garage. I parked on the forecourt just to make my self comfortable and more familiar with the controls. I adjusted the seat, mirrors and steering wheel and felt really comfortable and at home. All the switches etc were to hand and I could see all the dials. Then I saw the the switch with the 'Twin Tailpipes' That made the decision easy, it was home via the M40. Forecast was for sun for the rest of the day but heavy clouds were hovering and I was temped to drop the hood but didn't. So away we went mainly dual carriage way all the way home. The gear change was very crisp, with the sort shift you could run up and down the gears very quickly. Torque was great and engine was tight and very responsive to the slightest touch on the throttle. No much steering to be done on a motorway but I could feel that the steering was light and the car went exactly where you pointed it. We needed some fuel, pulled into motorway services and whilst paying noticed three people gathered around the car comparing notes. Now one of the real influences for me taking this route home could be put to the test. The Hatfield Tunnel. I took the slip Road down to the tunnel and reached for three switches - one PSE and both window down! The road was not busy and I pulled into the third lane, changed down and entered the tunnel. Well how good was that! A slip road at each end of the tunnel takes you up to a roundabout. Well I could not pass up the chance to hear that sound again, so round we went a couple of times North and South through the tunnel.[:D] A further Tunnel on the A505 at Baldock doubled the pleasure. In no time we had arrived home safely - it was bubble bath time, a quick couple of photos and time to take care of my other Valentine!

Spring was in the 10' Sunny London air today and to make my day a 981 S owner pulled up alongside me giving me a nice thumbs up (like his roof [&:]) When the 981 launched I was seriously impressed and still am but have to say IMO the Spyder is still the one to have and if it's your 2nd or 3rd car it's the only one to have [8D] Roll on Spring & Summer 2013 its been a long hard winter

That's a nice shot daro and no doubt your car received plenty of admiration parked there, like the video you posted.

Fuel gauge showing as above when a new Spyder record was set. Nearly 57 litres of fuel went in!!!!!!!! Trip back to OPC to be arranged I fear... On a better note, ended up here:

Do you think it's the fuel gauge Rob? What will you choose for a loaner this time?[;)] I'm hoping for some better weather soon up my way. I've only had the roof off once so far this year.

Weather is looking good for a couple of days - Perhaps that's our lot for 2013[:-] Another new Spyder to the market. Black, lowish miles manual but not much more detail, very poor way to add a car:- http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201302165364843/sort/default/usedcars/maximum-age/up_to_3_years_old/engine-size-cars/3l_to_3-9l/price-from/25000/model/boxster/make/porsche/onesearchad/used/onesearchad/nearlynew/onesearchad/new/postcode/cb45bx/saved-search-id/2c92962d3a4eee4e013a5d9f81340012/keywords/spyder/page/1/radius/1501?logcode=p

That new one is for dyllan[;)] http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=720168
ORIGINAL: dyllan who can blame anyone for wanting to offload to get into a spyder........i was sooo close sob sob.[]..no more news of "my" black one so i guess he had second thoughts when he read this thread,-realising what a rare machine he had and chose to keep it!!!! never mind ...someday hopefully
ORIGINAL: dyllan The dilemma between a 981 would be the 997TT gen 2 pdk now starting around £70k which seems good value . I do really like a soft top though and certainly wouldn't go the 991 cab route currently as I don't think it's worth the premium over the 981 . We will see what's out there in the spring when I have more idea of how many pennies will be left after the Poole build finishes . If a nice black spyder came back on the market I would still be VERY tempted!! And maybe get a 997 pdk for the weekly commute ?

I did see that one - looks very nice but poole build behind 3 months so will have to wait a bit longer sadly ! I have a loan 981 for 4 weeks while my 987 gets a new engine ( under warranty ) and it is a big step forwards in build quality handling and lots of other ways ,and I am very tempted.......but it somehow just seems to be not so involving ,and that's what I want above all else in my sports cars so I will keep looking for a Spyder. Cheers for the heads up
