Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: flat6 Do you think it's the fuel gauge Rob? What will you choose for a loaner this time?[;)]
Mmm... I wish I knew. Up till now it had shown empty with plenty of fuel left, probably a better fault. Manual says tank is 55 litres so either Shell Chester need to recalibrate their V-Power pump or I was very lucky not to run out of fuel on the M56.
 
If you want to appreciate a rarely seen piece of "Spyder Art" checkout the bespoke aliminium rear bootlid hinges .... Be warned if you have the painted roll bars get some cleaning materials ready as it gets pretty filthy behind those mesh wind deflectors! [:eek:] This shot taken after a quick clean up [;)]

Unfortunately car has been used plenty! Problem first arose when I had cruise control retro-fitted. It has been back to OPC a couple of times now. It's had various symptoms before/after various fixes - it has had a new instrument pack at £££ to Porsche and last time it went in they said it had been built with a Boxster filler neck which was swapped for a Cayman R style one which didn't explain why it worked perfectly for its first 2 years! Computer is now giving a range of over 400 miles when I filled it up which is some going for a 55 litre tank...

Very impressed Rob apart from the roof being on [&o] I have just returned from an afternoon of high speed topless fun and filled the tank back up with a reading of 270 miles to go before running dry [8D]
 
Roof was only on whilst I had the hosepipe out, just back from a little topless run out to dry the brakes etc. Am on a trip reading of 168 miles from filling up yesterday, mpg is 25.8 yet range is 193 miles and gauge showing over half full. The electronics think it has a Boxster sized tank!

Have never really considered the aluminium hinges. Will be taking an admiring look at mine now [:)]

I do like that plate. At the back end of 2010 I successfully purchased my perfect plate at the DVLA online auction, KE11OCK for £999 inc VAT and all fees. The next day I discovered that their IT wasn't up to it and I hadn't got it after all. It's been for sale at RegTransfers for £25k ever since... The buggers then outbid me for the sister plate K311OCK at a subsequent "real" auction, I went to £1k plus one bid, they got it for £1300 and that's been on sale for £20k ever since too... My preference would be RK and 2 digits but they are quite dear.

Number plate business is a strange game ... dealers can sit on a plate for literally ever and a day and very rarely actually own the plate advertised ... It's very much a Sale Or Retention business [:D] Shame you missed those 2 crackers though [&o] I use to go past a house that had parked on the driveaway "BEG1N" & "AGA1N" A great pair to own
 
Came across some early PCGB Spyder banter from before people had had much time to get familiar with it[:)] It's grown on some and hopefully will continue. Interesting find. Thread died a couple of months before i got mine. Look at this: "(Weight saving) 15.4 Lbs: The fuel tank shrinks from 16.9 gallons to 14.3. " 14.3 gallons is bigger than 55 litres. Anyone know how big the fuel tank actually is? Maybe my gauge works after all!

The brochure says the tank is 54 litres. The imperial gallon is 4.546 litrs. Whereas, the US gallon is 3.785 hence they get the 14.3.
 
You won't be able to ever buy this one cheaply [;)] I found the following from a quick google and as my picture was taken after 2005 I seem to have found the owner too [:D] A1 - the ultimate car number plate? It's widely accepted that A1 is the first car number plate to be issued and thus makes it the "ultimate" number plate for a lot of enthusiasts- not least Earl Russell- the first owner of the registration number. below is a brief history of this illustrious plate- it disappears from the radar in 2005 - will it ever surface again? 1903 The Motor Car Act became law and required all cars to be registered. “A 1" was allocated to Earl Russell- he famously queued all night for the privilege. 1906 The Chairman of the London County Council acquired the car, a Napier, and the Registration. 1907 The car and the number plate were sold to Mr. George Pettyt, Head of the Maudes Group Motor Business. A 1 was transferred to each of his successive cars, including an Alfa Romeo, MG, Morris Isis, Daimler, Singer, Jaguar and the last, a Sunbeam Talbot 90. 1950 George Pettyt died bequeathing the Sunbeam Talbot and “A 1” to Mr. Trevor Laker. A condition of the bequest was that he use the number until his demise and then it should be sold and the proceeds be donated to a dogs’ charity. Trevor Laker sold the number, with an agreement that he retained its use until his death or inability to drive. The £2,500 realized from the sale went to the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. 1970 On the death of Trevor Laker the ownership and rights to “A 1” passed to Dunlop Limited. Initially “A 1” was on a Daimler Limousine used to transport important visitors to the Dunlop Factories. It was later transferred to the tyre division and formed part of the extensive promotions for the Denovo runflat tyre. 1975 Following a brief period on an Executive Mini used by the Director of Engineering, “A 1” was returned to the Tyre Division for promotional purposes. 1985 Ownership of “A 1” passed to BTR plc, following the acquisition of Dunlop. The international BTR Group is one of the United Kingdom’s largest and most successful companies, with interests in the construction, energy, electrical, manufacturing, transport, paper, healthcare and consumer industries. Sales of £4500 million a year are generated by over 700 subsidiaries, employing some 80000 people around the world. 2005 - The late Roy Palmer of Insignia Registrations sold both A1 and 1A to a flamboyant foreign royal, the numbers were transferred quickly and ready for the new owner to be collected from the airport in two identical white Bentleys displaying 1A and A1. It is very doubtful that either registration plate will ever become available to buy again.
