Don't forget there is some capacity in the fuel filler pipe, so that could account for the anomoly.ORIGINAL: rob.kellockMmm... I wish I knew. Up till now it had shown empty with plenty of fuel left, probably a better fault. Manual says tank is 55 litres so either Shell Chester need to recalibrate their V-Power pump or I was very lucky not to run out of fuel on the M56.ORIGINAL: flat6 Do you think it's the fuel gauge Rob? What will you choose for a loaner this time?[]
Sweet picture.
Too close for comfort for me! I have never run out of fuel in a car ever and don't intend to start playing Russian roulette now! For cruising around it's not a problem I suppose, I know to re-set the trip meter when I fuel it and fill up at 12 x the average mpg. I hate it not working properly though, my OCD comes in to play...ORIGINAL: billy1 Don't forget there is some capacity in the fuel filler pipe, so that could account for the anomoly.
Went topless this morning and the sun is out even more for the journey home. Was a bit cold this morning despite the sun and I think I got some funny looks but with open air and PSE I had a big smile on my face[] Still couldn't justify spending on PSE on a new car personally as it doesn't make the car go any faster (just me) but I sure enjoy using it[]
Excellent news (roof off at last for you) but flat6 are you serious about not laying out for the PSE soundtrack! Driving this car in the silent mode for more than 5 minutes would be enough to convince me that the PSE was worth every single penny of the asking price hence my fitting the Carnewal gizmo that allows my PSE to operate from tickover with no cut off between 20-40mph band so my pleasure gets zero interruption which is now the case on the latest 981/991 PSE systemsORIGINAL: flat6 Went topless this morning and the sun is out even more for the journey home. Me too, sports exhaust would be the first option box ticked, no question! Car looking fab there flat6 - I wonder if anyone is anoraky enough to guess your neighbour's car from the little corner of light on display? Have to say, I am struggling!
Ohhhh I hate that pic. Saw it somewhere before but can't recall exactly the story behind it. Was a rendering for a rumoured future car but it's just 987 Boxster sides with with 991 lights grafted on and some photo-shopped domes and spoiler and they were trying to pass it off as a future car[&:]ORIGINAL: daro911What have we got here Spydermen []
Perhaps PSE is one of those things that shouldn't be tried and then you don't miss it. I'm sure I will miss it if a car didn't have it on, but I don't think I could justify the spend for noise, nor could I pass up the perfect used car if it didn't have it. Something I liked about my Gen 1 Cayman's engine was the engine sound. It sounded very mechanical and metallic and gave a sense of roarty combustion going on behind you. I've not had a DFI without PSE and so I guess I would more so miss it than with the old engine as the DFI is so smooth. But, what I actually miss is the more classic engine noise. I was just about to have a go at the Porsche Sound Symposer assuming that it was a synthetically generated sound track that can't possibly be any good. However, I thought i'd do my homework first. Appears to be real engine sound and it's about letting it into the cabin when you choose sport mode. Maybe the concept is considered not needed on a mid-engined car but i'm intrigued by the fact it's designed around the engine sound. Has anyone experienced it? in a 991 or Panamera (GTS only?) Can understand where you guys are coming from though as so many people talk about the enhanced theatre that the PSE does indeed give. There wouldn't be much to talk about in the sound department without it. At a recent technology workshop for the 2012 Carrera and Carrera S, Hatz and other Porsche engineers noted that creating a unique sound quality "between the engine and the tailpipe" has been a leading criterion for the 911 ever since the iconic sports car's 1963 debut. For the new Type 991 series, the development team focused on “mechanical engine sounds characterized by high frequencies with tonal elements†together with low-frequency intake noises. So significant is the 2012 car’s symphony as deemed by Porsche that the interplay between induction and exhaust was part of the car's design and engineering specification. Computer modeling mapping, as well as analysis of the configuration and dimensions of manifolds, pipework, catalytic converters, and mufflers, was carried out at the company’s Weissach Development Center. The required sonic profile had to satisfy all possible operating states—from engine starting and idling (conveying power without disturbing the neighbors) to wide-open throttle on a racetrack. The goal was not only to deliver the aural “emotions†expected of a 911 but also to provide the driver with feedback about the car’s mechanical status while meeting Europe's 74 dB(A) drive-by noise requirements. Electronically synthesized noise is not a Porsche solution, so the engineers developed a new Sound Symposer that is standard on both versions of the car. An acoustic channel picks up intake vibrations between the throttle valve and air filter and a membrane incorporated in the channel reinforces the vibrations and transmits them as an engine sound into the cabin. The system is driver activated or deactivated via a “Sport†button that controls a valve ahead of the membrane. The result is a direct acoustic link between the cabin occupants and the engine, providing optimal transmission of the load-dependent sounds. The sound of gearshifts can also be enhanced. The Sound Symposer incorporates a tunable Helmholtz resonator to achieve an harmonious sound pattern, damping out unpleasant noise occurring at around 5000 rpm. If the Sound Symposer is deactivated, an aperture in the air filter housing still allows the basic engine and exhaust tones to be heard—"because we don’t want it to sound boring!†explained Dr. Bernhard Pfäfflin, General Manager of the Noise and Vibration Department.

Maybe you've got a normal Boxster tank, it was an option on the Spyder.ORIGINAL: rob.kellock Anyone know how big the fuel tank actually is? Maybe my gauge works after all!
I have now posed that question to my OPC but they think it is a software issue. Options listed for my car are:

With many vehicles when you replace a control unit, to fully adapt it you have to configure all the settings for the vehicle relating to that module. When this is done by the dealer the modern way is to have it done automatically by entering the vehicles identity and downloading data from the manufacturers own server which knows the vehicles original configuration. However if something was retro fitted then these settings would have to be done manually and quite often there are multiple options for each setting. ie. for ABS on some vehicles you need to enter the make and software/firmware version of the ABS unit and there could be several different types. So when you had your cluster re configured they may have got some settings wrong if they configured it manually. Just a guess []
That makes sense. OPC are their usual charming and helpful selves and can't apologise enough, I'm sure they want it sorted even more than I do!
