Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: Fire_2 Did you fit that yourself Andy?
No I had it fitted by OPC. Part was £302 inc. VAT (997.355.910.30) and £176 labour which included flushing out old fluid and replacing with SRF which I supplied. It would be a very easy job to swap yourself but the system needs properly bleeding afterwards

ORIGINAL: Rocket Man got my car booked in for its 4 year on monday at OPC bolton and at about 9000 now also a clutch micro switch. having problems starting when you push down the clutch, they are lending me a cayman S for the day and said i can drive their boxster GTS when i collect my car. will be nice to compare
Interested to hear your views on the GTS which is a fantastic piece of kit with the sport chassis option[;)] Don't know who did the photo shop but it does look very nice[8D]

took the Spyder to OPC bolton today for its 4 year. the Cayman S they said i could take has had a bump so i had to make do with a Boxster GTS for the day. now that is a quality touring car but not a true sports car like the Spyder. i was ok with the stearing, not too bad, PDK, not sure but makes it a perfect every day driver with a bit of fun when you want it. the exhaust is louder but a bit booming compared to the spider but nice. could not realy give it the beans as it was chucking it down. reminded me of driving the A4 i had, easy for every day. did not like the white as it is not carrera white, just too white and the metalic white is much the same. the GTS interior is realy plush with red stitching but did not have buckets, ok i suppose but my opinion is it needs the buckets to feal special. red detail and alcantara realy lifts the interior to another league. put that interior in a Spyder with buckets and OMG how nice would that be. the plastic of the Spyder does look plain but all those other bits make the car look like a tourer than a true sports car. (i would have that interior at the drop of a hat but that is my thoughts)

So applying the usual Spyder differences ie Suncap, Buckets, Sport Chassis, much lighter door panels, no radio, no air con, smaller fuel tank, all alloy rear deck lid with trade mark humps, extra bhp, how keen would you be to trade up to a 981 S P Y D E R [8D]

not at all I have a Spyder so my next car will be the 3.6 380 Bhp NA GT4 I guess the new Spyder might be the 4 pot turbo. GT4 will be like the GT3 RS 4.0 a bespoke engine size, last of the era. cannot wait :)

Just got my Spyder back from OPC Bristol after 4 Year service.I had the loan of a PDK Cayman for the weekend and after a trip to Silverstone I can now see the attraction. It was however very nice to slip back into my carbon buckets and have a play with my gearstick !!!!!!

Would a 981 Spyder with buckets & stick appeal [8D] with it's updated interior and more aggressive styling cues [&o]

would you buy a 997 gt3 rs over a 996 gt3 rs ?some would some would not.the same will be said of a 981 spyder and my thoughts it will be more like a boxster rs 60 than a 987.2 spyder ! also cannot believe porsche will release so soon after the 981 gts!

A 981 Spyder RS 60 would be almost a GTS! My information is solid and it is going to be a "SPYDER" it's going to be available end of 2015 and it's going to be the most expensive, fastest and focussed 981 ever

nope the GT4 will be that, so they are going to show both cars at the same time at Geneva motor show 2015 the issue with the 981 manual is it does 82 mph in 2nd gear !!! that's a bit daft. the 987.2 is bad enough at about 75mph. Don't think my OPC has a single letter of interest for the new Spyder but 14 for the GT4 with only 5 slots !!! GT4 manual only, NO PDK option :) stops the rot ..... lets hope they shorten the ratio's on it.

Fastest 981 Boxster I should have said [:D] So if your GT4 is going to be manual only would that be the box in the 991's ie 7 speeder Showing 2 brand new models at one show isn't the usual M.O. at all the Kmen are usually kept waiting at least 6 months +[&o]

so if any of the the above is true it would makemore sense for geneva march 2015 981 spyder and cayman gt4 LA november 2015! But what space does that leave for 981.2 boxster that is also due soon along with the 991.2 both of which are nearly at the halfway life cycle and would have thought showing early next year

At the risk of starting World War 3 did you see the article on the Cayman R in GT Porsche. It seems that as it is a drivers car buyers are looking for manual transmissions. Can't think where I heard that before !

so if the spyder turns up at LA show november 2015 the same time as the rumours for the gt4?cannot see both being released at the same time!

My info is "Delivery " start November 2015 which means a public airing sometime earlier Maybe GT4 will be the LA show star[;)]

GT4 out 1st, cars ready for August. and will def be Shown at Geneva. The cars about signed off. engine test mule a 3.6 manual in a Boxster !! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXAibs8hNEM

Why would they put the GT4 engine in a Boxster and a Cayman (if that's what the clip is?). Could it be a new Spyder (if it happens) will get the same engine as the GT4? Amazing if it does. Also curious to know should a new Spyder actually happen, will it be as special? The RS60 and 550 Anniversary Boxsters also carried the 'Spyder' badge.
