Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

they test engines in other cars to hide the real car !!! always have done. they are not going to be showing the GT4 just yet, but expect some spy shots soon, not real Spy shot btw, every one leaks them when they want the car to feature on the net, should be called promo shots. I guess they are waiting to show the 991 RS 1st as that's a bit late.

ORIGINAL: tyinsky Also curious to know should a new Spyder actually happen, will it be as special? The RS60 and 550 Anniversary Boxsters also carried the 'Spyder' badge.
New Spyder is happening 100% - Boxster RS60 is already here in the 981 GTS and then some - Past errors calling it a Spyder have long since been corrected a specific design language as seen in the 987 Spyder & 911 Speedsters [:D]

ORIGINAL: MrDemon GT4 out 1st, cars ready for August. and will def be Shown at Geneva. The cars about signed off. engine test mule a 3.6 manual in a Boxster !! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXAibs8hNEM
Where's a 3.6L engine going to come from MrD? The 3.8L engine is an over-bored 3.4L and I can't see Porsche producing a bespoke 3.6L for a niche vehicle like the GT4 by producing an intermediate over-boring of the 3.4L. And correct me if I wrong but I can't seem to juggle the 981/991 range of bores and strokes to give 3.6L. Much simpler to detune a 3.8L [ref 991 3.4L to 981S and 981GTS]. Jeff

It's going to be quite a 1 off car like the GT3 RS 4.0 so having a bespoke engine will be great esp for value and esp if it's manual only. Porsche new true drivers car, I am quite excited by it. Now just need a Toxic Green or RS orange colour for the launch cars. yes it might be a detuned 3.8, either way it seems it's not the 3.4 and def not the turbo 4 pot. lets hope it has the 6 pot steels other wise I 'll also have to spec PCCB and that's a bit expensive !! It's going to be so cool if they totally don't give PDk as a option, That will put off a lot of buyers and stop daft spec cars later on. At least it's not a VIP car so if you are in the top 5 list at your OPC you will get one. Not a fan of Porsche going down the VIP owners route like Ferrari ie if you own a 918 you get 1st dibs of any car. just need to find £40k on top of my R and that sounds a lot of money to save lol

Why would it be a manual only as previously posted or at all even? All their flagships are PDK sadly for some that is the gear selector of the 21st century ask Ferrari Lamborghini or any F1 engineer [:D] Can't see why Porsche would be considering yesterdays technology for a Cayman flagship [&o]

All dfi engines share the same bottom end and have the same stroke the 3.6 is no different to the 3.8 in that it's a bored out 3.4 The 3.6 was in the 997.2 dfi before porsche reduced to 3.4 for the 991

Yes, but the 997.2 was a mainstream car line. Expensive to set up the line for a bespoke bore for limited production such as the GT4. With stock capacities of 2.7, 3.4 and 3.8L across the 981/991 range, why introduce an additional capacity when power can be tweaked by appropriate choice of throttle-bodies/plenums, exhaust manifolds, etc. and DME revisions on existing engines? The Cayman is already homologated for the GT4 European Race Series and I'm not aware that there are any capacity restrictions should Porsche wish to homologate the GT4 for the series, which is often one of the reasons for manufacturers introducing special engines. Hi all, looks like down to 1 at OPCs as I have today bought the Bournemouth one! Took a bit of a hit on my 911 but hey ho, you can't take it with you... Had my personal must have options of PSE, buckets, music and air con so job done. 2yrs OPC warranty nice peace of mind also. Pick up Thursday/Friday next week, can't wait as I haven't even driven one yet so I hope its as good as you say..... Just hope for a dry day and get the roof off. Anyone got any tips on getting it on again !!! Hope to maybe meet up with a few of you sometime...Cheers Matt

Congratulations Matt and welcome to our Spyders web. You're a brave Man buying without trying but I think you will be impressed and look forward to your first impressions. Good luck with the collection and of course the weather [8D] That Spyder is a very late CS Vin number so one of the last cars produced [;)]

Don't think he can make it unfortunately. Other Spydermen very much welcome though! Still places left. 981 Cayman flatters for sure.

Never know we may even get another 'flash visit' from Mr D which would be good too [;)] It would be nice to see some of the Spydermen as well on track [8D]

Hi Andy I can't make it this time [&o] I hope to do EVO in the new steed before the end of the year. I'll propose a date via email if you're interested? Mr Kellock, you in?
