Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Current roof is easy to use. Daft as it sounds (and I rarely have the roof off at all), the basic roof is part of what makes the car special. Edited: Removed homophobic references.

ORIGINAL: daro911 Without the Spyder humps/rear deck it wouldn't be a Spyder IMO. A 911 Speedster without the humps would be a non starter and same goes for any Gen 2 Spyder
Putting aside the Boxster RS60 Spyder which was named commemoratively (like the 997 turbo S Edition 918 Spyder), a true Spyder in terms of Porsche's use of the word is a roof-less car. So as we're talking about a Boxster Spyder, not a special edition namesake, you should get what you are lusting after[:)]

ORIGINAL: MrDemon I have the embargo date for the GT4 now but cannot post it on the net. But we will know a lot about the car way before Geneva 2015. Cars and numbers are already signed off, the same with the Spyder which is coming a few months after. Going to be very rare over subscribed cars. I would say Porsche will leak a few more shots in November of the GT4, you will have to wait a while longer on the Spyder. 375bhp is the only figure which seems to be common around the net atm which ties in 100% to my figures. Not long to wait guys :) I should be in a car by spring being very high up on the list. OPC will be asking for real deposits very soon to keep your places. The biggest secret still is engine size
Could the engine be a runout of the 3.4 fitted to base 991 if this article is correct about 991 Gen 2's[&o] http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Secret-new-cars/Search-Results/Spyshots/Every-Porsche-911-to-go-turbocharged-in-2015-with-9912/

CAR's Georg Kacher is normally quite well informed when it comes to all things Porsche 6 but I can't help but think he's been sold a buck with that information. My feeling is that it's much more likely that Porsche will introduce the flat-4 turbo engine(s) on their entry level cars such as the Cayman and Boxster to get some production miles and experience before rolling them out across the whole range. On the GT4 engine front I'd be surprised if it's not a detuned 3.8L (revised plenum/throttle body, different exhaust - of course - and DME remap) rather than a tuned-up 3.4L. Your guesses are as good as mine really - just my punt on it. Jeff

OOps! Misread Kacher's article - he's saying flat-6 turbos for the 991 C and CS (2.9L and 3.8L capacities), which is more believable. If the normally aspirated flat-6 is on its way out MrD, with the exception of the 991 GT3 (and 981 GT4?), it would be much more sensible and cost effective for Porsche to have just a single 3.8L capacity (which would also be used for the 991 Turbo, of course). I'm assuming that the 2.7L and 3.4L in the Boxster/Cayman are to be dropped eventually in favour of the flat-4 turbo. Jeff

so do i still go for the 991 4GTS and bag one of the last N/A engines with 430bhp or wait for next autumn and get an early gen 2 C2S with 520bhp!! decisions.....

ORIGINAL: MrDemon 100k is a lot of money just for a normal car imo So I could never buy a normal 911 at those prices.
997 Gts looks such good value at the moment
I thought they looked expensive over a 997.2 CS, most are higher miles and want >60k for a 5 year old car

My money is on you never getting a car[:)] If you continue to look ahead, there'll always be something better than what you had almost settled on. You've been with the Spyder clan since page 3 of this thread. [;)] I reckon if you're thinking of hanging out for a 520bhp C2S, you might as well get a lightly used 991 turbo S now. I also wouldn't hang too much on those rumours unless they become official. Porsche has typically made only incremental power upgrades to each model, because they can. They even develop an additional incremental upgrade and leave it on the self to be sold as a optional powerkit at extra cost, rather than all the cars leaving the factory with optimal performance (have never understood that). Therefore if a C2S is going to jump to 520hp turbo it is a major change in their product planning and also doesn't leave much room for where the turbo model is to go (and would overshadow the GT3, tech or no tech, weight or no weight deficit). So I wouldn't alter your plans based on these rumours unless they become official.

Hi all, I would like to confirm that I am an active buyer of a Spyder, as long as it has the following minimum spec: - White/red - manual - PSE - air con - music - buckets and Spyder wheels - FSH... Feel free to get in touch if you are thinking of selling, or know someone who is. Cheers Matt PM me or 07827 661481
