Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: jayxx83 That defo looks electric. The shape has been kept but looks like those plastic bits may raise / fold.
I would have thought manually folding like the 997 Speedster was [&o]

ORIGINAL: jdpef356 I cant work out the area between the humps! Whats the light blue bit? Any ideas?
It looks like camouflage panelling to me so you can't make out the new rear panels lines and bumps the blue bit seems to be part of the camouflage attachment fixing [&o]

I just don't see how this would work as an electric hood. Where would it go?[8|] After all if you look at all soft top Porsche models (I may well be wrong) but the hood is always on show just forward of the boot. Applies to 911 Boxster etc. IMO this looks awful unless you have a Black car Black hood combo. Just look at a silver car or any car for that matter where the colour of the hood and the body work don't match. They look awful[&o] It would be a giant step if that can hide this one on the new Spyder with a electric one button push solution.

The mind boggles[;)] Just as a change perhaps the car will have to be removed from the roof[&:]

https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.asp?m=852856&mpage=1&key=&#853994 this is how the rear should look[;)] Some more shots of mine in the rain ..look away Daro [:D][:D]

Yip! looks like it is still the same style hood ....front end looks more aggressive and GT3/4 style ..From that shot the 987.2 looks a nicer side on view .Be interesting to see its back end ...not sure ..and what will the seats be like ? GT4 style

More powerful and lighter than the Boxster GTS A WCF reader has sent us a batch of spy images depicting what appears to be the Porsche Boxster Spyder. Porsche has already confirmed its mainstream operation division is cooking up a more powerful Boxster to sit above the GTS and chances are the model in question is depicted in the attached images. It won't be as hardcore as the 385 HP Cayman GT4 but nevertheless we should expect a seriously fast car taking into account it will be lighter the aforementioned GTS. It will likely be called the Boxster Spyder as a connection to the namesake model launched back in 2010 which came with more power in a lighter package. However, the latest gossip says there isn't going to be a bump in output so expect the flat-six 3.4-liter boxer engine to pack the same 330 HP & 370 Nm as in the GTS. Lighter than the 1,345 kg Boxster GTS, the new Spyder version will also boast a different soft top, a slightly more aggressive body with an additional air intake at the base of the hood. Chassis tweaks, beefier brakes and a lowered ride height are probably part of the package for the range-topping Boxster likely coming out together with the facelifted regular model due later this year. Special thanks go to Wood for sending us the pics!

So assuming the 981 Spyder is an updated 987 Spyder which we all own enjoy and cherish how many Spydermen past & present will go for the all new 981 based version baring in mind it is rumoured to be sensibly marketed this time around and personally I hope it will be to order only and no demo cars at every OPC .. I always thought Porsche made a terrible mistake with the 987 Spyder as just my own personal market research on 2 separate Spyder days at PEC other than me I couldn't find one single current Boxster owner who came to sample the beast who thought they would ever buy one for several very strong reasons[&o] No electric or manually folding roof system Couldn't justify the then 10% price hike which became circa 15% if you added back air con and radio In 1989 Porsche sold all 65 UK Speedsters without blinking. After the crash of 1990/91 the demand for used Speedsters, unlike used Spyders, was almost zero! Many cars were advertised with no mileage to speak of 40% below original market price and still remained unsold sometimes as long as 3 years! Even 14 years later when I sold my concours winning example and with only one other on offer at the same time it didn't exactly fly out the door Speedster 2 with only 13 examples coming here didn't suffer the same fate - Lesson learned[:D] and hopefully remembered with Spyder 2

will there be a difference in demand if it's manual only? will it be limited production? will Porsche look to advertise as at least shaving 0.1 of the PDK GTS 0-100kmh? will a manual roof put people off like last time? what will the price point be, will it be above the GTS PDK? will it be sold as part of the 981.2 stable and if so will it be part of the last 6 cyl family? questions questions

If the new Spyder only has the GTS engine at 330bhp then I wouldn't go for it. The only thing that's lacking in the current version for me is an extra 50+ bhp, at 330hp in the new one it wouldn't tempt me. Now if it had the similar 288bhp/ton as the the GT4 then that would be a different matter altogether. Won't sacrificing my pole position in the queue just yet. [;)]

from "the experts" [:D] Based on this latest Prototype: 1. Roof - Visually looks similar to the 987 Spyder, but the sunshade rear attachment points are now no longer on the hatch, but instead attached to the body itself. Looks as if there is a flap that opens up when the roof is closed. That flap also includes a "Spyder" logo embossing. The weather protector looks more secure compared to the previous model it replaces. Some think its motorized based off the visual of the weather protector. Personally I think it will be a manual top but a lot simpler to operate. 2. Rear Hatch - There is a piece of camouflage over the mid section. You can see that the center brake light bridges the two humps like the 987. The question is whether or not there is a reason for this cover to hide something (doubtful). 3. Front Bumper - The Spyder is utilizing the GT4 front bumper skin and Grills. The front lip looks similar, but is not as low for better angle approach. (I can see some GT4 owners doing this mod to make it more street friendly?). 4. Front Brakes - This car has bigger brakes compared to the GTS... Are they GT4's? Not sure, but they are definitely different. 5. Suspension - Looks to be a higher stance than the GT4... My guess is the X73 suspension? 6. Front and Rear Lights - Look like a carryover from GT4... Black front housings and Rear lamps are smoked tint. 7. Rear Bumper - Looks the same as the standard with the addition of the GT4 Duck Tail. The diffuser looks the same as the standard GTS currently, but might change at production like the GT4 did. 8. Interior - Only photo we have is of the Sport Buckets. From this we can see the "Spyder" embroidery on the headrest similar to the GTS and GT4. They are in red with black alcantara inserts similar to the 987. These will be more than likely optional like the GT4 and GT3 where they were standard for the 987 Spyder and Cayman R.
