Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

As a road / touring car and the ability to track, this is looking great. Demand should be strong especially if they offer the Pdk box. Lets's respect that some like it and couldn't spec it on a GT4 before we get all superhero about our own ability to change gear with a gear stick! [:D]

New Page New Pic - no prizes for guessing where I hitched up with this extra passenger![;)]

ORIGINAL: Andrew Killington will there be a difference in demand if it's manual only? will it be limited production? will Porsche look to advertise as at least shaving 0.1 of the PDK GTS 0-100kmh? will a manual roof put people off like last time? what will the price point be, will it be above the GTS PDK? will it be sold as part of the 981.2 stable and if so will it be part of the last 6 cyl family? questions questions
Last Spyder split was circa 114 manual 86 PDK on my how many left app today It will be low production numbers as opposed to be called limited production word from the street is total of 150 cars over 2015/16 MY 0-62 mph will always be 0.01 secs in a PDK v Manual [:D] Didn't put the 237 takers of Gen 1 off just the other 3-4000 Boxster sales to people who have to have electricity driven roofs My guess would be GTS LP plus 10% with no air or radio Last of the flat 6 family I would think that is a definite

ORIGINAL: DarrellWilson If the new Spyder only has the GTS engine at 330bhp then I wouldn't go for it. The only thing that's lacking in the current version for me is an extra 50+ bhp, at 330hp in the new one it wouldn't tempt me. Now if it had the similar 288bhp/ton as the the GT4 then that would be a different matter altogether. Won't sacrificing my pole position in the queue just yet. [;)]
If the new Spyder drives, handles and sounds as good as a GTS I would buy it for looks alone. I expect it to handle even better with sport chassis over the standard PASM set up and go even quicker with the lighter weight spec so for me it's the best of all worlds as I really do like the drive of the GTS with sport chassis already

ORIGINAL: philnotts99 So its really come to stick or twist! I'm not so sure. I may need to test drive a GTS very soon!
Having driven a Boxster GTS with sport chassis I can confirm it had definitely moved the game on. The grip levels were stunning the new chassis was a big step forward on the sport suspension set up compared to the Spyders on the original fantastic but now dated chassis

I think the first one looks like it has more finesse to the design, especially the side profile. The second looks more dumpy and weighty. I think once it's on its proper wheels and the bits of camo removed then we can judge properly. Driving wise, the new one has tech many years newer so it's bound to make the performance more accessible. Newer cars generally tend to be easier to drive faster.

I think the Gen 2 having the rear buttress's fix to the body and not the rear deck looks aesthetically much neater and probably a great improvement fixing and releasing wise over the current set up[8D]

See im not so sure new is better. Maybe i need to warm to it and take a GTS out!.. I think i will be the only one that thinks this now but the crackles and pops from the down shifts sound annoying on youtube.... [:-]

They are quite different; the Spyder is a much rawer experience. Top up all the creature comforts not pressing on you could be in a German coupe; you of course can turn the sports xorst off . It feels more rigid than the Spyder and maybe I'm getting old/lazy but it's no hardship opening and lowering the roof at up to approx 30mph. I'm still running in so can't talk about outright performance, but we've all seen the Steve Sutcliff Autocar video from Majorca which is as good an endorsement as you can get. Will I get a Spyder if given the opportunity ? Yes I would; Also Porsche will have responded to some of the issues with the spyder roof; before mod mine flew off! I think the look of the Spyder is stunning; test drive a GTS what have you got to lose? Ps my GTS is PDK; it's very good; don't dismiss it out of hand

Test drive it, will put you off and you will keep the 987.2 Spyder. Chassis has not moved the game on at all imo, you would have to drive at 102% to even have any idea. The steering is still rubbish and the longer gearing a pain. of course it depends if you want that rawer feeling or that Audi like feeling. But the GTS is over hyped as a drivers car imo.

I agree with your point about the tall gearing; try a PDK. I think that you do need to test one as everyone will have their own opinions on what s important to them. I'm sure we all end up compromising to one degree or another. The testing quote is not for Mr d as I know he has

Test drive a sport chassis example if possible [;)] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGCc_uoiOOw

As you know my Spyder is tweeked , it has the same front track as the 981, a geo far apart from oem now it has Adjustable LCA, has monoball toe links and more solid engine mounts. I call it my Big Exige, it is as far from a 981 as one could be being the same family. it's a very Lotus analogue light weight feel to it, if I did not have this car I would have a Elise Cup thing in my garage, but the Spyders faster and is going up in value. Not knocking the GTS cars as they are awesome cars, but you don't see any Juno's owning these cars they place so high !!! why is that ? Spyder and R are the last cars to feel like this imo. The GT4 will be interesting , loads more torque at 4750rpm so I hope that will cancel out the long gearing a bit, and the GT4 is said to have even better steering than the GT3 , But I doubt it will be as good as my Spyder. GTS is just not the sort of car I would want to own after doing the VIP GTS day, I would prob be a Audi fan boy and buy another mk3 TTRS when that is launched over a GTS. We all know the R is the better car than the Spyder as a drivers tool and the GT4 will be a better tool over the new Spyder, so it comes down too what one wants. I had to work out what to keep as my R has been the best car I have owned and we have other members who drive R here agree . but alass the R has to go, the 987.2 Spyder stays as I do think it is an iconic car already and great fun. And the GT4 will replace my R. will the GT4 step over that too raw for the road use ? maybe but with GT4's it's a no risk buy ie free motoring and fun I hope while also having the latest thing which is always nice. The new Spyder will be interesting, they could make it a car for all, it might be a mistake to make a manual roof and make it a toy, at that point keep the 987.2 car ! If the new SPyder was a 3.8, Electric roof, big brakes and adjustable LCA then that's an amazing car and one which you can use every day but still pose about it, and still goto a track day in. but thats just my thought on what I want, means nothing to any one else, just what I like. :)
