Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Hopefully i will be able to test drive a GTS this weekend. I have a feeling the new Spyder is going to loose the raw experience and just be a lightweight, slightly quicker GTS.

ORIGINAL: MrDemon Not knocking the GTS cars as they are awesome cars, but you don't see any Juno's owning these cars they place so high !!! why is that ?
Journo's can drive the latest toys any day of the week so no need to part with their cash on one[:D] "For Me" and my driving needs the best Porsche I have experienced since getting my Spyder is without doubt the sport chassis Boxster GTS (picture below) despite having a wonderful session in the awesome 991 Turbo I can't honestly say money no limit if I could be any more thrilled than owning a GTS but I have since decided that all future Porsche purchases by me will be strictly limited run models ie GT4 if it was a drop top of course [:D] 911 Speedster and now fortunately for me Boxster Spyder (s)[;)] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGCc_uoiOOw

Robert ....a question ? if the new Spyder turns out to be Manual only the same as the GT4 would you go for it... or are you a die hard PDK man now[;)] If it turns out a choice of both I think I will go down the PDK route this time(if I buy one ) as my Spyder is the first Manual Porsche I have had in the last 5 Porsches .

Brian it will most definitely be both if it is just a breathed on 3.4L and in that case I will go PDK as I have seen the light with Gen 1 and Gen 2 PDK is in a different area code again [:D] But if it was a manual only I would have no hesitation going back to old school motoring and would definitely be driving a lot slower than I do with the paddle shifter[] My biggest choice to make would be "colour" not tranny's[:D]

That very much depends on what colours are on offer as basic.[;)]

Historically Porsche rarely update there colours and when they do it's usually no more than one or two at a time [:D] Safe bet to work on current 981 offerings and my main choices are all new versions anyway ... Sapphire /Racing /Platinum

ORIGINAL: MrDemon As you know my Spyder is tweeked , it has the same front track as the 981, a geo far apart from oem now it has Adjustable LCA, has monoball toe links and more solid engine mounts. We all know the R is the better car than the Spyder as a drivers tool and the GT4 will be a better tool over the new Spyder, so it comes down too what one wants. I had to work out what to keep as my R has been the best car I have owned and we have other members who drive R here agree . but alass the R has to go, the 987.2 Spyder stays as I do think it is an iconic car already and great fun. And the GT4 will replace my R. will the GT4 step over that too raw for the road use ? maybe but with GT4's it's a no risk buy ie free motoring and fun I hope while also having the latest thing which is always nice.
Mr D why would you not keep the better 987 the "R" and use the GT4 for what it has been designed for "The Track" Sell your mullered sorry mean modified [:D] Spyder Then you have the best of both worlds

good question, had to make a choice which one to sell, not an easy choice. I might regret the choice, who knows. I do see the 987.2 Spyder as a £55/60k car though don't want to miss out on a few £££ while interest rate are worthless. the R is even going up atm !! shortage of GT4 and GT3 now daft money the last 3 R to come on at OPC have been £45k I will track the GT4, that's a given, the SPyder is still my little toy :) the question is will I miss the R as my daily ?

Hmmm a case or heart ruling head or wallet ruling head [:D] I suppose the biggest unknown is how good will the GT4 be as a daily driver compared to your much treasured "R" Hard Call Bottom line I guess from what you are saying whichever lamb you sacrifice it will always be with much regret in decades ahead but at least you had it on your motoring CV [;)]

ORIGINAL: Flange GT4 'too raw for the road'? Lol, it's a GTS with lipstick on, it's not wearing a spandex suit with running spikes! [:D]
have you seen the spring rates, steering ratio, geo etc VS the GTS ? ,, thought not, I have the full spec sheet of the car inc spring rates, geo set up , steering ratio etc it's nothing like a GTS. Porsche even claim less usable than the 991 GT3 ! it's not a tarted up GTS in any way bar what you can see with that tarts interior :) don't let the Cayman shape fool you, it's a proper car the GT4.

A proper car, eh? Don't you have to be a good driver to own a 'proper' car? I can't imagine many Cayman drivers are any good at getting the best out the car...

The car will have narrow appeal, strict enthusiasts only need apply. The Spyder was -20mm lowered, the GT4 -30mm! I like the concept of narrow appeal and for the same reason I hope the 981 Spyder keeps the same manual roof as the original. The Spyder is essentially a roofless car and there is already a Boxster with a very convenient roof. I don't see the point in having 2 types of Boxster with folding roofs. Some bought the Spyder and couldn't live with it and sold it on. Some didn't buy it in the first place because of the roof. At least with the limited availability of the GT4 to order, it should more often end up in the hands of those who get what its about. Yes some will still be bought by people who realise shortly after that they've bought the wrong car for themselves but I think they'll all end up in the right hands quicker than the Spyder. So what will Cayman fans crave after next. Maybe a 380hp Cayman with a bit more usability[:)]. Let's face it, a Cayman doesn't have to be set up so extreme to handle 380hp does it? But I think 911 protection will prevent a more accessible high performance Cayman being produced. But in the meantime, those wanting an extreme, factory stock Cayman, Porsche have pretty much delivered it seems.
