Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/porsche/boxster-987-05-current/porsche-boxster-spyder--immaculate-and-full-spec-2010/1102054 I Wonder if it is the one I used around PEC[] It was a heavy spec fat boy Spyder and the instructor that day confirmed what I thought maybe the case ..... Having just jumped out of a lightweight Spyder which even had the ceramic brakes, no air, carbon buckets I was somewhat surprised to see the fat boy felt no different around the track to me! He said if he went all out in both the lightweight would be fractions of a second quicker but not much more. Armed with this experience and comment I was less paranoid about finding a very light example [:)]

This many pages into the thread daro911 and Flat6 have possibly posted images of every UK car sold! It would beyond coincidence for the car above not to be the one for sale with those wheels/ that spec / that previous owner. Ad didn't mention that the few hundred miles Porsche did in it were all done sideways, bet its on its 3rd set of tyres! Still, a nice example and I'm not convinced the PEC would do it any great harm if it was only there a short while. I have sat in Spyders there with damaged drivers seats and badly scuffed sills though. As for unavailable options - I'd go for... Fail safe police and speed camera blocker, or possibly a supercharger!

ORIGINAL: jdpef356 New Day new challenge![:)] 22nd February is Ave a laugh day![:D][:D][:D][:D] Well the latest car to the market had an extra - the extended stripes! [&o] It got me thinking - that dangerous! [:-] What Option would you have liked on your Spyder that was not on the Porsche option list?

Did you know that the side air intakes and doors on the 981 were not copied from the Carrera GT but in fact from the Toyota MR2? Only joking[:D]

Thankfully the 987 side design doesn't lend to someone trying to do the butchery in your pic[:'(] Here's my offering

No! I don't want the car, but the colour of the roof on this MX5 Spyder concept would go well with the shade of red leather Porsche uses (which as rob rightly pointed out, clashes with guards red). The Boxster Spyder side stripes colour would have to match it also. On a white car, with silver wheels it might work well. I think black is bolder though and works best for the hood on our cars.

Not to sure about that one Rob![;)] However, I would like to see one with the front intakes/spoiler and mid intakes and rear refuser colour coded the same as the car! I think that is one of the reasons the Black ones looks so good[:)][:)] Sorry looked for picture but cant find one other than Black!

These guys surely can't be using their own cars for this. I wonder if the owners know...[8|]

I didn't realise that individual sections of deviating colour stitching were offered and priced up separately. Maybe that's why I can't see it on the dash in John's pic...
ORIGINAL: daro911 When you have finalised the first task you set us how about Round 2   As we all seem to have bought used Spyders, how about keeping it real and honest, what would we have bought brand spanking new especially if we knew it was going to be a long term affair or even a keeper [8D]

OK, so he we go with Daro's suggestion for round 2. Considering your own wallet, what would be your 5 options? I expect some of us may keep the same 5 and some of us when 'keeping it real' will drop some options out, which will make space for others in your top 5. Looks good. I think red stitching would be somewhere on my options list[:)] Can't think why my car's previous owner opted for Carrara white intrument dials but didn't match up the colour of the sport chrono dial for a few hundred more[&:]

The Urban Outlaw takes Jay Leno for a spin in his old school manual 180bhp 911and I think you will be surprised to hear Jay Leno's comments considering what his personal garage houses Maybe JL should consider a manual short shift Spyder for his collection as it has the sort of limited bhp/old school feel he seems to find lacking in his modern far more exotic collection The actual drive kicks in at 10 minutes but the rest is worth watching too [;)] [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB3JZlV6RDM]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB3JZlV6RDM[/link]

[link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB3JZlV6RDM]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VB3JZlV6RDM[/link] Magnus Walker doesn’t look at all like what you’d expect a [link=http://www.motorauthority.com/news/porsche]Porsche[/link] collector to look like. He wears oil-stained jeans, not designer slacks, and it’s a safe bet that none of his shirts come with a tiny alligator logo on them. He wears his long hair in dreadlocks, and you can tell from his chest-length beard that blending in at the country club isn’t a priority for Walker. On the other hand, he can trace his passion for the Porsche brand back to age ten, when he visited the Earls Court [link=http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1079835_magnus-walker-urban-outlaw-and-porsche-collector-video#]Motor

[/link] Show with his father. Shortly after, Walker wrote to Porsche, saying he wanted to be a designer for them when he grew up. In typical Germanic form, Porsche responded along the lines of, “when you get older give us a call.” That call never came. Instead, Walker and his wife Karen first gained notoriety through Serious Clothing, a line of fashion designed for musicians. While fashion design may seem like a stretch from [link=http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1079835_magnus-walker-urban-outlaw-and-porsche-collector-video#]automotive

[/link] design, it paid well enough for Walker to indulge in his passion of collecting early [link=http://www.motorauthority.com/news/911-carrera]Porsche 911[/link] models. Walker’s stated goal was to have one example from every model year beginning with 1964 and ending with 1973. He’s nailed 1964 through 1972, but this close to his goal he appears to lost interest in finding a 1973 911 (unless, of course, the right [link=http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1079835_magnus-walker-urban-outlaw-and-porsche-collector-video#]car

[/link] came along). These days, he’s more into 1970s 911 Turbos. Walker occasionally restores and sells cars, largely through word of mouth. It’s clear that he has an amazing talent for both the mechanical and artistic components of automotive restoration, so we’re not surprised that his projects sell without advertising. Filmmaker Tamir Moscvici has produced a documentary on Walker’s amazing story, called Urban Outlaw. We’re giving you the three-and-a-half-minute teaser to the film above, but [link=http://www.reelhouse.org/mos/urbanoutlaw]the entire video can be seen on Reelhouse.org[/link]. Also, we recommend you take a look at [link=http://www.magnuswalker911.com/]Walker's website[/link], for more on his back story and his incredible collection of vintage 911s.

That's the same thing I thought when I watched it. Everything they say when they're driving that old 911 reflects what I get out of driving the Spyder.
