Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

ORIGINAL: jdpef356 Lots of Spyder data pics etc from Porsche (In German - you can translate) found at [link=http://www.porsche.com/germany/models/boxster/boxster-spyder/]http://www.porsche.com/germany/models/boxster/boxster-spyder/[/link]
Lots of Spyder data pics etc from Porsche In English![&o] [link=http://www.porsche.com/uk/models/boxster/boxster-spyder/]http://www.porsche.com/uk/models/boxster/boxster-spyder/[/link] With the Boxster Spyder, this spirit is expressed by its unmistakably sporty design. By a styling that, typically for Porsche, explores its own directions. The most striking examples are the manual canvas hood in place of an electric convertible hood and the rear which is dominated by two imposing and dynamic-looking haunches. With the hood open, these create a smooth visual continuation of the roll-over bars in a black painted finish. So, is this all just styling for styling’s sake? On the contrary. The addition of pure design here should only be contemplated if performance is improved as a consequence. The result of these enhancements is improved aerodynamics during open-top driving.

Parked at Tesco (in an end space of course, 2 foot outside the space[:D]) As I walked to the store, a couple of kids who looked about 14 were looking at me. One asked "Is that a Ferrari?" I said "No, it's a Porsche" They didn't catch what I said so I said it's a "Porsh" and then they told me it's a really nice car. Another time I was in that car park and a guy complemented me on the car. He I asked me how much it cost and I said I wouldn't like to say. He tried to get it out of me and made a guess of £80K. Was yet another reminder that i'd bought something a bit special[:)]

Have just been to a retail park. On returning to my car a guy with a 997.1 had parked almost facing mine and had just got out of his car. He complemented mine and I complemented his. Roof was already on from before but as I proceeded to add back the rear screen (as my son insisted on it as he was cold) the guy asked me "Is it a turbo".[&:] Now, he was looking at my car more from the front but as the rear deck lid was up in the air, I don't know what turbo he was thinking of. I said "No it's a Boxster Spyder". He replied "Oh it's a Boxster". Not sure if he knew of the Spyder but as we had started from the point of turbo, I didn't go further into explaining other than to say "It's a lightweight one". He then asked if it was only rear wheel drive. So I guessed his was C4 or C4S, which he confirmed as I told him that his would be the 911 i'd go for, for all year round driving. I think i'll go back to just calling it a Spyder and create more confusion:ROFLMAO:

For all year driving it has been proven you can't beat 2wd fitted with winter tyres during the severe part Better grip, better cornering better braking than equivalent model with normal tyres and 4 wd [link=http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-video/winter-tyres-vs-4x4]http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-video/winter-tyres-vs-4x4[/link] I think that any fellow Porsche owner who doesn't recognise a Spyder needn't even be told about the Boxster bit otherwise they will leave totally confused hence my car is debadged and your car should be saying nothing more than Spyder on the rear deck[:D]. IMO Boxster Spyder in that small space is just far too much of an eyeful []

I think the best rear if you can stand the £30 odd is this rear ...says all that anybody ever needs to know [;)]

On balance, I think I agree. I nearly had mine doctored but then my OCD "keep it how it came out of the factory" kicked in and a Spyder only badge was never an option! At least yours is simply "model delete", a Porsche approved look!

We must be related [:D] My OCD said the same thing but I would rather have the naked look than the crowded look If I find a cure I would definitely go for Spyder only

I can only assume that my car gave him a 'top of the range' impression and so turbo sprung to mind[&:] I agree that 'Boxster Spyder' is a bit of a mouthful verbally and for the tailgate to hold.

The name Spyder would've been fair. After all, the 997 Speedster isn't badged as the 911 Speedster (which is it's official name http://www.porsche.com/microsite/speedster/international.aspx ).

I'm with Rob on the tampering. I can neither remove the badge that was bestowed on it at the factory, nor can I go for just 'Spyder' which isn't an official Porsche option. The latter would be 'modding' which is a no no[;)] Meanwhile, we didn't even get to disuss the PC Leicester car and it has gone already![:-] So has the other silver car and we are left again with Wilmslow.

As an ex Speedster owner I can also confirm the 1989 UK cars came with no rear badging at all. The 1993/94 Gen 2's had the missing name plate as standard and these eventually were retro fitted to the originals but with no uniform placing of the actual badge[&o]

The Leicester car went before the pictures ever got posted up! History repeating itself as that was the same deal with the 911V Aqua car gone in under 24 hours!

De-badging is fine as it is an 'official' option and approved configurations don't invalidate your warranty[:D] I do like the de-badged look too but I like a bit of writing on the back, so will have to suffer the long name[&o]

Prices seem to be holding now. The asking price of OPC, Indie and private sellers is about the same as it was a year ago. The only difference is they are generally selling quicker now, which you'd assume means they buyers may be holding closer to their asking price than before.

Hi Brian If it's the one you want go after it. Sport Chrono is a must with PDK and it has that; everything else is a bonus (and the spec on these cars doesn't drive the price much). But you are armed with plenty of market research from here, so put forward your case for getting the price down[;)] Also consider how much warranty it has left, which comes at a cost to the OPC's when they put a 2 year warranty on their cars. That should also be factored into your personal evaluation.
