I do believe it is Less than 24 hours before we see the all new Spyder so one last pic from me of the "original"

I agree, as a fun car to use on sunny days and touring, it may well be a better proposition that an a GT4 for many potential owners?
 
How do you guys get on when pressing on with the spyder. I love the damping and ride quality but sometimes think perhaps a touch softer set up would mean you can make quicker progress on the average B road. Is it just a case of manning up and keeping your foot in? Thinking about some driver training. I wouldn't say Im a bad driver by any means, looking ahead, reading road properly, car in correct gear before corner etc. So ultimately a smooth driver, but the bumps do upset it at lower speeds. Car is very sharp and pointy, absolutely love it. I would love to get rid of that safety understeer which just makes you nervous rather than more confident. I have noticed at higher speeds however that the bumps seem to disappear which would suggest that the car needs to be driven harder to get the best out of it. A friend told me late braking to get the weight over the front and blend off the brakes as you are turning in and transition into throttle as you approach the apex. Any advice would be great!
 
In terms of layman's advice, yes just drive it harder and the bumps will be less apparently than the grip and poise it has. I braked quite hard in it and went through a set of front pads twice as quick as one of my fellow Spydermen but the car was always stable and made me want to drive harder and harder. I had a similar start with my current car, taking too much of a softly softly approach and cautious about where the limit is. I'm now getting comfortable with the combination of power and grip now and chucking it about like I did the Spyder. The extra thrust is night and day more which can have me entering a corner 20 to 30mph faster over a short straight and that was my caution. But as you say the tendency is to understeer (not that I have understeered it yet as the grip levels are good but I can feel that that is what it is likely to do if I overcooked it) so it's pretty safe go towards the limits. As with the previous-generation Spyder, the lightweight fabric roof is opened and closed by hand, although it is released electrically (as is the rear deck) to make the process more user-friendly than before.
 
The new Porsche Boxster Spyder has been revealed at the New York motor show, and is the lightest and most powerful version of the car yet created. The Boxster Spyder joins the range above the GTS and is priced from £60,459. It is available to order now and will reach UK showrooms in July. Powering the new convertible sports car is a 370bhp 3.8-litre flat six engine sourced from the 911. This normally aspirated unit is a significant upgrade on the 325bhp 3.4-litre flat six found in the current range-topping Boxster GTS. The 3.8 engine, which has 309lb ft of torque between 4750rpm and 6000rpm, is hooked up exclusively to a six-speed manual gearbox in keeping with its purist brief. The powerful engine, in combination with a weight saving of 105kg over the 1420kg Boxster GTS, allows the Spyder to sprint from 0-62mph in 4.5sec and reach a top speed of 180mph. In comparison, the Boxster GTS has a 0-62mph time of 5.0sec and a top speed of 175mph. Unlike its recently launched Cayman GT4 stablemate, the Boxster Spyder has not been created by the GT road car division of Porsche’s Motorsport arm and uses no motorsport parts. However, the model has been created in full consultation with the GT division. Although the car eschews motorsport parts, it does feature a host of significant mechanical upgrades over the Boxster GTS on which it is based. The upgraded brakes have been sourced from the 911 Carrera and a firm-riding sports suspension system has been fitted, with the ride height lowered by 20mm. The standard equipment does without items such as sat-nav and air-con to further reduce weight. However, these are available as no-cost options and a full range of infotainment options are still offered. As for the styling, the Boxster Spyder’s most notable feature is its new roof. As with the previous-generation Spyder, the lightweight fabric roof is opened and closed by hand, although it is released electrically (as is the rear deck) to make the process more user-friendly than before. And you can feel exactly what that means when the world is blowing, unfiltered, around your ears.
 
They've certainly put some thought into it. 20mm lowered not 30mm lowered like the GT4 will make it more usable on the road and low enough for road use. Badged as 'Spyder' not Boxster Spyder to give it more identity. Porsche website says "Special order only. Please contact a Centre." We know why it's manual only, but everyone is allowed their point of view. The Boxster Spyder wheel is back. Rising rear spoiler. Will be interesting to read people's configurator choices.
 
This new Spyder comes stripped bare unlike its fat boy brother GT4[:D] No air conditioning. No radio. No distractions. Missing them? Don’t. Every kilo that we’ve taken out of the Boxster, has an effect on performance. The ascending centre console means only a short distance from the small sports steering wheel, a typical feature of racing cars, to the gear lever, while the three round instruments with central rev counter provide you with all the relevant information. The shell of the Sports bucket seats* is made from glass-/carbon-fibre reinforced plastic. For even more of a weight advantage. The ‘Spyder’ logo is stitched on the headrests. The Alcantara seat centres are reminiscent of motorsport. An impression that is enhanced by the minimalist door pull loops. Overall, the interior has an impressively clear design style. The colour is black with the only exceptions being the pointers in the round instruments which are white and the trim strips on the dashboard and centre console which are painted in the exterior colour. Alcantara on the door pulls, armrest, steering wheel and gear lever provides a good grip. A leather interior with extended leather and Alcantara trim is available as an option. A visual treat is provided by the dashboard trim strip painted in the exterior colour which continues on the doors. Combined with the leather interior, the optional decorative stitching package introduces additional contrast. The stitching package is available in silver, red or yellow and includes the ‘Spyder’ logo on the headrests. The door pull loops and seat belts can also be in a matching colour if required. The carbon-fibre reinforced plastic full bucket seats are available as an option to further increase the sporty appearance. In addition to the manual fore/aft adjustment, which the Sports bucket seats also have, there is an electric height adjustment to provide the best sitting position. For more comfort, the Sports seats Plus with electric backrest adjustment are available at no extra cost. Despite the minimalism, air conditioning, radio and other equipment are available as options.
 
As I predicted months back a lightweight folding manual roof system[;)] Hood With such a radically open car you might almost forget about it: the hood. The new Boxster Spyder cuts a dynamic figure even when it’s closed. With side contours flowing seamlessly into the streamliners on the rear lid, the hood runs back into two taut fins. And it’s not just visually that the hood has developed. Compared to the previous model, it has become much more practical for everyday use. And it can be driven at top speed, with no constraints. It unlocks electrically and then the lightweight hood can easily be stowed away by hand beneath the rear lid – without restricting the luggage compartment volume of course. As an option, the roll-over bars can also be painted in the exterior colour. And there’s a net-type wind deflector available at no extra cost.
