Are Spyders Becoming Extinct At OPCs!

Looks best in silver. The power is undisputable but the design a bit to chintzy for me. Not sure the humps work as well as the 987 but either way a lovely car. Can't wait to see one in the metal!

Does that therefore dispell theories that they can't make enough GT4s? Most limited availability is artificial and rightly so. Thought it would have been given the ram air scoops on the side like the GT4 but not the top vented front PU. I was wrong there.

ORIGINAL: clubsport ** Admin / Moderators, I have mentioned this before. Would it be possible to break this thread up, maybe archiving the 2015 input from the 2014 and earlier. I have >50mb and due to it's 710 pages this thread takes longer than anything I view to load. Most forums do not let threads go beyond 500 pages to save bandwidth. Keep the valuable resource as an archive on the Boxster forum, the current and smaller thread would load up more quickly. Thanks. **
Are you clicking through to page one first? You should get the choice of choosing the last page. Page 1 is best avoided.

ORIGINAL: johnnyspyder* Well, I'm out - no PDK. Sod it - was getting quite excited. Looks great though.
It's a valid point from a paying punter. The 3.4 GTS PDK performance compared to the 3.8 manual Spyder, on the road, may well be a tempting choice for those wanting PDK as the difference on paper is fairly small. Some might say tough luck to those who want PDK but as the car now offers a more convenient roof it's no longer tough luck if you don’t want a roofless car. This one has a roof and advertised as a all weather car.

Yes of course, I click on 711 at the moment and go there directly.....after a delay. Did you think I was starting at page 1 and forwarding 711 times whenever I log on? [:D] It is not big deal, just seemed a sensible suggestion to site maintenance in line with the way things are run elsewhere. PCGB is by far the most antiquated forum and interface I use, we have been expecting an update since before the 981 Spyder was even on the drawing board...... I have a feeling a 981 Spyder owner will qualify for classic insurance before the club gets to grip with a forum update.

I've not had the time to read every column inch of coverage but do we know if the car is being produced in limited numbers or is it assumed Porsche will make as many as they can sell?

I still can't work out how the roof works! A short clip in the video appears to show it being stowed manually from outside, but I'd love to know how the flying buttresses are attached / unattached. It would appear though, that there is no longer an option to drive just with the top bit of the roof on (and the rear scalf stowed) - shame, as I use this from time to time if it's a bit chilly. I guess the positives are the increase in power / torque, and the better sealed roof. Styling wise, I need to see it in the metal, as the photos suggest it being a bit more fussy and not quite as cohesive (I guess this is easy to say when I don't want to think it will be worth £25k more than mine!)

I am not sure on it, some nice bits. but the humps are not nice and smooth, I would have liked to see a electric roof, (I was wrong there lol, wait till I see my tech leak person !) NO GT3 parts brakes are only the 340mm not the GT3 380MM only looks ok from the front imo, back is not as nice. I guess it's just x73 sus ? also still the smaller tyres size which is a shame with the 3.8 lump, the car needs 245's up front imo and with more power bigger rears ? the GT4 has gone upto 295 rears ! very nice car, happy to keep GT4 and old school Spyder. How ever PDK anti I am on the old one, I really would have liked the 981 to have PDK and electric roof and be more a tech fest car. this car is just a 3.8 GTS with square humps and basic 911 front disks which is fine. Wonder if it has GTS steering or GT3 steering as the 981 steering is pants imo for feel and the worse part about a 981. all these might be answered as I have just got in from a early start so not seen the full spec yet in detail.

[:D] Lol, no, just thought page 1 with all its pics was somehow involved. I hadn't noticed the single page loading is affected by the size of the thread but i'll not give it any more thought until it breaks [:D].

Some good points there MrD. How do they compare on price then if the article's £60k is true. GT4 seems to have some superior components for not much more money? (Haven't done the math)

£4k difference in list prices and you get more full fat on the GT4 and no topless posing [:D]

the GT4 seems very good value with the GT3 sus, larger wheels and 380MM disks and of course better than GT3 steering ! that would cost a load esp as I would have to fit GT3 LCA if I were to buy that new 981 SPyder. again not having looked, what seats are UK standard in the Spyder, I am still shocked the GT4 you have to pay for buckets, but it helps that 65k headline price I guess. I see some have said buckets standard ! also weight has not been published but some one posted a weight, is that with no AC and no radio again ? I loved the look when they 1st showed the 1st pic, just after wards it's not as great. ie the rear is ugly and the humps are not as nice as 987.2 humps. best view is front 3/4 angle, that's quite sexy :)

lol, the new gf looks a bit odd from the rear.. Fronts looking great though! [8D]

it's a nice thing for sure. I kept my 987.2 Spdyer though because it feels RAW and like a big Elise, coming from my fun cars of Elise, Exige and Noble, the 987.2 Spyder is still a bit raw and fun. This new one is a great 1 car for all, so would get used day to day. But it looks less fun, and of course no where near GT4 levels for track use and playing with Sus settings geo etc. If I were to have only 1 car 981 Spyder is a nice bit of kit. Ie. I could sell all 3 of my cars for £200k buy a 981 Spyder and a bigger house !!!! I would not feel short changed with the 981 car if I bought it for a car which does every thing. sorts of sits between a 987.2 Spyder and GT4, not as good as either (imho) , but a nice place to be if you don't want to own both and don't want to do track days.

As much as I like my PDK Spyder, I do find it a little tight for legroom and couldn't have managed with a manual, so PDK was the only option for me. Looks like I'll be going for the new one to be honest, I know it has more legroom, quite liking the GT silver with classic pk, but of course it would be the most expensive option !! I noticed the German site has the 918 type bucket seat option, but UK doesn't for some reason ?? One thing missing is the Porsche lettering down the side, add this and I think it'll look more complete.
